Chapter 732 You Shouldn't Keep Secrets from Me
Bonnie nodded, "No problem."
Zane let go of Yanis and was about to replace Bonnie when Yanis reached out and grabbed his hand. "Zane."
Zane paused and turned to look at Yanis.
Yanis held onto Zane's hand. "Let's wait for Ivan and them to come out, then go home. I'm a little tired."
Hearing this, Zane hesitated for a moment before nodding. "I'll take you to the car first. Albi might need some time to process everything."
Yanis didn't refuse Zane's suggestion but instead looked at Stella. "Stella, you and Bonnie can head back first."
Stella responded with a nod. "Okay, make sure you rest well when you get back home," she said.
Yanis also nodded in agreement.
When Bonnie heard this, she quickly said goodbye to Lane before grabbing Stella's arm and leaving the police station in a hurry.
Lane watched as they left before looking up at Zane. "You should take Miss Thompson to the car first while I check inside," he said. Zane nodded, "Thank you so much."
Lane added with a chuckle: "Mr Lawrence is becoming more polite by the day! Alright then, why don't you two head over there while I go inside?"
After watching Lane disappear inside the building, Zane turned towards Yanis: "Let's head towards the car."
"Why did you keep me in dark?" asked Yanis as they walked side by side towards their parked vehicle.
"I wanted to handle things myself so that you wouldn't have any worries," replied Zane calmly before being interrupted by Yanis who spoke up again: "But I would worry anyway! You shouldn't have kept it from me," scolded Yanis gently yet firmly.
Zanes remained silent for several seconds as he contemplated his response carefully before finally speaking softly: "I'm sorry about that. Next time I won't keep anything from you."
Although there were things that he wanted to say too but decided against it, since now wasn't an appropriate time or place for such a conversation.
Half an hour later, Ivan and Robin emerged from within the building, still wearing yesterday's clothes.
Yanis had been considering calling out their names through rolled down window but remembered Madison's words just in time, which made her hesitate briefly.
Sitting beside her, Zane noticed her hesitation immediately.
Glancing over at the police station entrance momentarily, he then shifted focus back on Yanis, asking curiously: "Aren't we going greet them?"
Yanis shook his head. "Forget it, I'll call Ivan later and have Albi take them home. Their families must be worried."
Zane furrowed his eyebrows slightly upon hearing Yanis' words. "Has anyone from the Baxter family come to see you?"
Zane asked this because he knew for a fact that the Read family would never go to Yanis.
That meant the only possibility left was the Baxter family.
After hearing Zane's question, Yanis gently shook her head. "No, you just go down and say goodbye to them."
"Wait for me," Zane said.
He opened the car door and walked towards Ivan and Robin.
When Robin saw Zane, she spoke up. "Are you okay?"
Zane shook his head. "Let Albi take you guys home first. Sorry about what happened this time."
Robin exclaimed in surprise, "What's there to be sorry about? I can't believe I got a chance to walk around here once in my lifetime! It's worth it!"
Ivan chuckled at Robin's words before saying, "Why don't we get Mr. Lawrence to give you a membership card so that you can come anytime?" Robin waved her hand dismissively at Ivan's suggestion before turning back towards Zane as he looked at Ivan and said: "Thank you for your help." Ivan nodded before asking: "How's Yanis doing?"
"She's fine," replied Zane reassuringly as he continued: "Don't worry about it; let Albi take both of you back home safely."
"Hey wait..." Lane started speaking but was interrupted by Zane as he said: "Lane will handle everything from now on." He then gave Lane a subtle signal.
Being smart enough, Lane said, "No problem. We'll keep in touch."
With that settled, Albi took over by saying: "Let's go, Ivan and Robin." They exchanged pleasantries before leaving together.
Once they had left, Lane turned towards Zane with curiosity written all over his face as he asked: "Miss Thompson seems quite close with Ivan. Why didn't she come?"
"It wasn't convenient," answered Zane softly.
Lane didn't say anything more after hearing this response from him but instead nodded understandingly while saying goodbye shortly afterwards - promising that they would stay connected throughout their journey ahead together.
After Lane left, Zane turned and got into the car.
"Going home?" Zane asked Yanis as he settled in.
Yanis nodded. "Let's go."
Zane started the car and drove away from the police station.
Yanis edited a few messages on her phone but deleted them all. In the end, she decided to make a call. But just as she found the number, her phone showed a low battery warning.
Yanis hesitated before turning to Zane. "Zane, where's your phone? I need to make a call but my battery is dead."
Zane handed over his phone without hesitation. Ivan's number was already saved on it, so Yanis dialed it directly.
The call went through but was immediately put on hold.
Yanis hung up and decided to try again later when there might be better reception.
"What happened?"
"I think Ivan is calling his family now," Yanis explained.
When the car stopped at a traffic light, Zane looked sideways at Yanis. His eyes fell on Yanis' face. "Yanis, the Baxter family went to the hospital, right?"
Zane used a declarative sentence.
Yanis knew that Zane wanted to know, and he just needed a phone call to know it after all, so at this time she told the truth, "Aunt Baxter and Mila came. They were worried about Ivan. And they asked about what was going on and left."
As soon as Yanis said this, Zane could almost guess what was going on.
"She hit you?
Before Yanis could answer though, Ivan called back which made both of them pause their conversation momentarily.
"It's me," said Yanis once she answered.
Ivan replied softly upon hearing his voice: "Mila called me earlier asking about what happened, so I didn't pick up your call."
"It's okay," said Yanis reassuringly. "I just wanted to check in."
"There isn't anything you need to worry about," said Ivan curtly without elaborating further since everything had been taken care of by Zane already.
Yanis said, "Have a good rest after getting home."
