Chapter 762: It Might Not Be a Psychological Issue, but a Mental Problem
After ending the call with Zane, Yanis started her car and headed towards the hospital. However, the road to the hospital seemed unusually crowded today. By the time Yanis arrived at the hospital, it had already been an hour.
Zane and Iris were sitting on one side near the operating room entrance, along with Dr. Wood and several doctors from South Hospital. Yanis approached Zane and asked, "Any news yet?" Zane nodded and reached out to pull Yanis to sit beside him, saying, "Why are you all wet?"
Yanis replied, "The wind was strong just now, and my umbrella couldn't hold up."
Zane furrowed his brows and said, "I'll have Albi bring you some clean clothes."
"No need. I didn't get completely soaked, just a little wet. It'll dry soon," Yanis said, pausing for a moment. "Did you tell Grandma and the others about Anika's situation?"
Zane shook his head. "Not yet."
After chatting with Zane for a few moments, Yanis stood up and greeted Iris, who was sitting beside her. "Anika will be fine."
Iris nodded and asked, "Do you want to change your clothes?"
"It's fine. It'll dry soon. Just got sprinkled by some rain earlier," Yanis replied.
Iris didn't say anything more. Yanis sat next to Iris, her gaze fixed on the direction of the operating room. "Iris, are you and Anika... together?"
Yanis had wanted to ask Iris before but was afraid of being misunderstood, so she had hesitated. However, seeing Iris sitting here, full of concern, there was no room for misunderstandings.
After hearing Yanis's question, Iris glanced at Yanis and replied, "Sort of, but I haven't told her officially yet."
Yanis nodded gently. "She'll be okay."
Anika's surgery lasted quite a long time, about five to six hours. When they received the announcement that she would be sent to the ward after the anesthesia wore off, everyone finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Mrs. Lawrence, can I have a word with you privately?" After the doctor's announcement, Dr. Wood looked at Yanis and asked softly.
Yanis turned to Dr. Wood and nodded. "Sure."
"Let's go over there," Dr. Wood said, gesturing towards a secluded area.
Yanis greeted Zane and followed Dr. Wood to an empty space.
"Dr. Wood, what did you want to talk to me about?" Yanis asked as she approached Dr. Wood, who was standing by the window.
Dr. Wood looked at Yanis with a serious expression. "The incident where Anika was bullied had a deep impact on her, and she has been carrying it in her heart. This sudden outburst is likely due to her emotional instability. When she fell from the second floor, we initially thought someone pushed her after considering the presence of others around. However, after reviewing the surveillance footage, we discovered that she jumped on her own."
Pausing briefly, Dr. Wood continued, "In other words, she is now showing suicidal tendencies, and it could worsen over time. In an unguarded moment, she might consider suicide. Do you understand what I'm saying?"
After listening to Dr. Wood's words, Yanis replayed them in her mind before looking at him and asking, "So you mean Anika currently has severe suicidal thoughts?"
"So, recently, I saw her with Mr. Duncan, laughing and talking. I thought her condition was gradually improving. But I overlooked her own issues, which led to this situation without timely guidance, causing her psychological distress."
"Dr. Wood, if she has these psychological issues, it must be because something triggered them, right?" Yanis looked at Dr. Wood and asked.
Dr. Wood nodded and said, "It's possible that someone said something to her or she saw something that reminded her of a past event when facing certain problems. That's what made the situation so challenging."
After their conversation, Yanis fell silent for a few seconds. "Dr. Wood, is there any way to resolve this situation?"
Dr. Wood paused for a moment and replied, "Currently, I can't think of any way to help her overcome this. However, I've reached out to renowned psychologists overseas and informed them about the situation. We're waiting for their response. If they have a method that can help Anika, I hope she can go abroad for treatment. But the condition is that she must have someone she trusts to accompany her because there may be unforeseen challenges during the treatment process."
"Such as?" Yanis asked.
"For example, something like what happened today, where she might make extreme choices when we least expect it," Dr. Wood explained.
After listening to Dr. Wood's analysis, Yanis nodded and said, "I understand. I'll discuss it with my family later."
Dr. Wood acknowledged and suddenly thought of something, looking at Yanis. "By the way, there's a more daring approach."
Yanis turned to Dr. Wood and asked, "What approach?"
"That would be to completely confront her with the incident and make her face it again," Dr. Wood suggested.
Upon hearing Dr. Wood's suggestion, Yanis immediately rejected it. "No, that's too risky. If... if it further intensifies the situation, we won't be able to handle the consequences."
Dr. Wood responded, "Yes, that's the greatest risk. If this approach fails, she won't just have psychological issues, but... mental problems."
Yanis said, "Then we definitely shouldn't take that risk. I'll discuss the second treatment option with my family."
"Alright, if I have any updates, I'll contact you immediately," Dr. Wood said.
Yanis thanked him quietly.
Back at the entrance of the operating room, Yanis whispered to Zane, recounting what Dr. Wood had said. "Do you think going abroad is suitable?" Zane pondered for a few seconds and replied, "Going abroad is fine, but the key is who Anika trusts the most, who she wants to accompany her."
Upon hearing Zane's words, Yanis couldn't help but glance at Iris.
Iris was on the phone, her tone sounding serious.
"Yanis, do you think Anika would choose Iris?" Zane asked softly after noticing Yanis's gaze.
Yanis shifted her gaze back and looked at Zane. "I just feel like Anika might choose her, but if she does, it might be inconvenient for Iris. After all, if Iris isn't in Manches City, Duncan Group will have no one to manage it directly."
Even if Iris likes Anika now, even if Anika is in Iris's heart, she can't just abandon everything here and accompany Anika abroad.
Moreover, the treatment period won't be just a few days or weeks-it could be indefinite.
If they're lucky, it might last for two or three months, but if luck isn't on their side, it could be one or two years, or even longer.
