Chapter 819: Yanis, Are You Feeling Proud Right Now?
As Yanis entered the room, she was about to say something when she was startled by the sudden sound of the door closing behind her. "Take a seat wherever you like. Let me pour you a glass of water," the woman said, turning around and heading towards the kitchen.
Yanis stood awkwardly on the side for a moment before finally walking towards the middle of the living room.
Due to the increasing number of people ordering customized jewelry from this area, Yanis often visited clients in person to take measurements or discuss details. Sometimes, she would encounter clients with special circumstances, such as those with autism or psychological barriers.
This client had placed an order online and messaged her about her situation, mentioning that she couldn't go out in the sun or wind and had been staying at home all the time.
Yanis didn't refuse and accepted the request.
But why would she wear a mask and hat even when she couldn't see the sun or feel the wind at home?
Just as Yanis was lost in thought, the woman placed the glass of water in front of her. "Have some water first."
Yanis snapped out of her reverie and met the woman's gaze.
That glance sparked a sense of familiarity in Yanis once again.
"What's wrong?" the woman asked, breaking the silence.
Yanis shook her head. "Nothing."
The woman sat down across from Yanis. "Do you think I'm a bit abnormal?"
After sitting down, the woman looked at Yanis and asked.
Just as Yanis was about to speak, the woman chuckled and said, "I also think I'm quite abnormal. But I've gotten used to not showing my true self to people. Even if I do something, no one will ever know." At first, these words didn't seem significant, but upon closer reflection, Yanis found them somewhat peculiar.
However, Yanis didn't think too much about it and handed over the catalog she had brought. "Take a look and see if there's anything you like. The ones below are actual samples."
The woman reached out to take the catalog from Yanis but casually set it aside without flipping through the pages.
When Yanis saw this, she couldn't help but look at the woman in confusion. "What's wrong?"
"I want to have a chat with Miss Thompson," the woman adjusted her sitting posture and said. "Is Miss Thompson married?"
Yanis was slightly taken aback.
"I just wanted someone to talk to. I've been alone here for a long time without any contact with people. But I feel a connection with Miss Thompson," the woman said softly.
Given the circumstances, it would seem impolite for Yanis to refuse. So she answered the question truthfully, "Yes, I'm married."
"Your husband must treat you well, right?" the woman nodded.
Yanis nodded. "He's pretty good."
"I used to have someone I liked very much. I liked him so much that I thought I would marry him and have children with him. But then he fell in love with someone else. He even pretended to be with me to protect the person he liked, making me believe that he loved me," the woman said with a laugh. "Actually, I had my own motives as well. If he truly liked me, I wouldn't have treated him that way. I threatened him before, hoping he would be more sincere with me. But later, I realized that everything he did was for someone else, for her, for his sister. That's why he acted with me."
Yanis didn't dare to interrupt, but the more she listened, the more she felt a sense of déjà vu from the woman's words.
It was as if she had experienced something similar, and she was the person protected by the man the woman was referring to.
"Yanis, are you feeling proud right now?" Suddenly, the woman's voice turned icy, carrying a bone-chilling coldness.
As Yanis heard those words, she snapped back to her senses.
Who was the person in front of her? It was only now that Yanis recognized her.
Neve.
Neve raised her hand and took off the mask and hat, sitting across from Yanis. "I should also say, long time no see."
Yanis met Neve's gaze. "How... did you get the information about my clients from my studio?"
Neve chuckled. "Do you know who this house belongs to?"
Yanis didn't speak and just looked at Neve.
Neve stood up and walked around the room. "I bought this house with my first paycheck. The income was just enough to cover the cost of this place. I like this height because standing by the window, I can see the Lawrence Group building and a large part of Manches City."
As she spoke, Neve walked to the window, pulled open the curtains, and said, "Yanis, do you know what I've been thinking all these days I've been here?"
Yanis suppressed the stifling feeling that prevented her from speaking and responded to Neve's words, "What are you thinking?"
Neve turned around to face Yanis. "I'm thinking, since we're all going to die anyway, there's no difference between dying early or late."
As Neve spoke, she took slow steps towards Yanis. "Besides, with you by my side, Yanis, we can consider ourselves destined."
Yanis, taken aback by Neve's words, looked at her with confusion. "What do you mean?"
"You understood," Neve replied.
After pointing at the glass on the table, Neve continued, "Yanis, if I can't have Zane, then you shouldn't either. Let's leave this place, leave this world, that's the only fair option."
Yanis stood up abruptly. "I don't think that's fair at all. I have something to do, so I'll be leaving."
Yanis picked up her things from the table and headed towards the door.
However, when she reached the door and attempted to open it, she realized it was locked. She had no key or password to unlock it.
"This is a smart lock, you can't get out," Neve stated.
Yanis turned around to face Neve. "What exactly do you want?"
"Wasn't what I just said detailed enough?" Neve looked at Yanis. "Let's leave this world together."
With those words, Neve lit a lighter and set fire to a thin coat on the sofa directly.
As Yanis witnessed this action, she hurriedly stepped forward to extinguish the fire. But before she could reach it, Neve grabbed the glass that was placed aside and poured its contents onto the flames. The small fire instantly grew, engulfing the fabric of the sofa.
Thick smoke quickly filled the living room.
"Have you gone mad?" Yanis exclaimed.
Neve laughed. "Yes, I am mad. I went mad when Zane chose you without hesitation!"
"Not only do I want him to witness his own biological mother's death in front of him, but I also want him to watch the person he loves the most die before his eyes!"
After finishing her shout, Neve laughed maniacally. "Yanis, you two will never be together in this lifetime!"
Yanis ignored Neve and quickly picked up her phone to make a call.
Upon seeing Yanis dialing a number, Neve tried to grab the phone from her. Yanis, anticipating Neve's move, skillfully evaded her attempt to snatch the phone. The call had already connected, but there was no one answering on the other end.
