Chapter 898: Settling Outside, Never Return

Zane took Yanis directly into the house and helped her take off her wet clothes. "Go to bed, I'll replace you some dry clothes."

Yanis nodded and turned to climb onto the bed.

Zane closed the door and handed Yanis some dry clothes. "Change quickly."

Yanis took the clothes and looked at Zane. "You're wet too. You should change."

Zane nodded. "You change first, stay on the bed, and I'll make some ginger soup for you to warm up."

Yanis looked at Zane's concern and didn't refuse. She knew that drinking ginger soup would put Zane's mind at ease.

After changing her clothes and taking some medicine, Yanis lay on the bed and soon fell into a drowsy sleep.

Zane watched Yanis sleeping and decided not to wake her up. He closed the door and went outside.

During the rain, the phone signal was weak. Zane walked around the yard until he found a spot with some signal. He called Albi back and discussed some important matters.

As soon as Zane finished talking to Albi and hung up, Allan called again.

"What's up?" Zane answered the phone.

"Are you still in town or at Mitch's house?" Allan asked in a low voice.

"We're at Mitch's house," Zane replied and then asked, "Are you here?"

"I'm in town, but I can't come up now because of the rain. Did Mitch mention the burial time?" Allan asked.

"No, did you ask him yourself?" Zane responded.

Allan said on the phone, "I've called Reed's and Mitch's phones several times, but only yours went through."

Upon hearing Allan's words, Zane remained silent for a few seconds. "Shall I ask for you?"

Allan agreed, "Ask him politely. I'll ask now while it's raining and the signal on the mountain isn't good, so I don't end up being unable to reach him later." Zane turned around and glanced in one direction, where he saw Mia standing at the doorway, reaching out to feel the rain. Zane called out, "Mia."

Mia looked towards Zane and responded, "Brother Lawrence."

"Go and call your eldest brother, tell him I'm looking for him," Zane instructed.

Mia nodded and walked towards the other side.

Mitch quickly came over from the side and stood in front of Zane. "Mr. Lawrence, you're looking for me?"

"Allan asked when your mother's burial is. He's in town and can't come up now because of the rain," Zane explained.

After hearing Zane's words, Mitch replied, "It's the day after tomorrow at eight in the morning."

Zane turned and reported the time to Allan.

On the other end of the phone, Allan responded, "I'll come up when the rain stops."

Zane acknowledged, "Anything else?"

Allan cleared his throat. "Um, can you pass the phone to Reed?"

Zane had put the phone on speaker when Mitch came over, so Mitch naturally heard Allan's request.

Upon hearing Allan's words, Mitch furrowed his brows. "She can't answer the phone right now; she's talking to my uncle."

Mitch spoke towards the phone.

Upon hearing Mitch's words, Allan immediately raised his voice, "Your uncle? That uncle of yours?"

"Felix," Mitch confirmed.

After a few seconds of silence, Allan said, "I'm coming up right now!"

After saying that, Allan hung up the phone.

Zane looked at Mitch. "Isn't Reed with Natasha?"

Mitch ran his hand through his messy hair. "My uncle is with her too."

Then he paused and explained, "Felix has no relation to us, absolutely none. He's just an elder in terms of seniority."

As men, Zane naturally understood the underlying meaning in Mitch's words.

But Zane didn't expect that there were so many people in this small village who liked Reed.

No wonder Allan reacted that way earlier.

That Felix he saw earlier looked pretty good, except... his height was not ideal.

"Brother Lawrence, Sister Yanis is awake!" Mia ran out from inside the house and called out to Zane.

Zane acknowledged and walked towards the room.

As Zane left, Felix emerged from another house and approached Mitch. He looked in the direction Zane had left and asked in a low voice, "Is he your boss from Manches City?" Mitch nodded in response to Felix's question. "Yes."

"He looks like a rich guy, completely different from us folks born and raised in the mountains," Felix remarked.

Mitch turned to look at Felix. "Weren't you working in Viteto? Why did you come back?"

Felix sighed and took a step back, leaning against a nearby pillar. "I couldn't make it there."

Mitch frowned. "I heard you were a small leader in Viteto. How come you couldn't make it?"

"Who did you hear that from?"

Mitch replied, "When I came back last time, I overheard my mom chatting with the village elders."

"When did you come back?"

"It was about a week ago," Mitch answered.

Felix ran his hand through his messy hair. "My mom boasts nine out of ten times she speaks. I can't believe you actually believed what she said."

With that, Felix looked at Mitch. "Did your dad really owe money to Old Raymond?"

Mitch furrowed his brows. "I don't know. My dad never tells us anything. Even if he does, he tells my mom. But my mom never mentioned that we owe anyone money, and I knew about the debts we had before I had basically paid them off when I came back last time."

"Old Raymond has been short of money lately," Felix said in a low voice.

"Short of money?" Mitch echoed.

Felix nodded. "I heard his son fell for a girl from the city. She didn't like the living conditions here, so she wanted to buy a house outside. His son calls him almost every time asking for money. He even borrowed three to four thousand from my mom. Buying a house in the city costs millions. For us, that's astronomical!"

Listening to Felix's words, Mitch didn't know what to say for a moment.

Seeing Mitch's silence, Felix continued in a low voice, "I advise you, once your mom's matters are settled, take Reed and the others to Manches City. It's really not good to stay here. You never know what might happen one day..."

Felix's words were about to continue, but he stopped in time. "Anyway, it's just my suggestion. The decision is yours. And if Old Raymond asks you for money again, just go directly to the police in town. He's actually quite timid and would be scared to ask for anything when he sees the police."
