Chapter 990: If It's Inconvenient, Never Mind
Bonnie responded, "Alright, I won't bother you then. My dad is here, and I need to prepare some stuff for Mles."
Yanis replied with a simple "Okay."
After hanging up the phone, Yanis checked a few client messages and was about to go upstairs to pack when the doorbell rang.
Yanis thought of getting up to answer the door, but the housekeeper was quicker. "I'll get it," she said.
Yanis acknowledged her and sat back down.
"The visitor is looking for you, Mrs. Lawrence," the housekeeper said, turning to look at Yanis sitting in the living room.
Yanis glanced at the entrance and saw the person standing there. She got up and walked over, asking, "Why are you here?"
Antonio appeared somewhat uneasy as he stood at the doorway. "I have something to discuss with you," he said.
Yanis stared at him and said, "Come in."
Antonio shook his head. "Do you have time now? Let's talk outside."
Yanis hesitated for a moment. "Then wait for a moment. Let me change my clothes."
Antonio replied, "I'll wait for you at the door."
Seeing Antonio's awkwardness, Yanis found it hard to adapt to this side of him. She was used to his arrogant and unreasonable attitude. It was strange to see him like this now.
Since Antonio didn't want to come inside, Yanis didn't say much and went upstairs to change her clothes before coming back down.
"Auntie, I'm going out for a bit," Yanis informed the housekeeper when she left. "You can go back once you finish tidying up. Zane and I won't be at home for the next couple of days, so you don't need to come over. We'll contact you when we're back."
The housekeeper acknowledged, "Okay, Mrs. Lawrence."
Yanis changed her shoes at the entrance and left the house. As she stepped outside, she saw Antonio waiting at the door. When he saw Yanis coming, he straightened up and looked quite obedient. "Where are we going?" Yanis asked as she walked up to him.
Antonio replied softly, "Anywhere is fine."
"Why can't we talk here?" Yanis inquired.
Antonio looked at Yanis and said softly, "I... I want to treat you to a meal."
Surprised by Antonio's invitation, Yanis asked, "Treat me to a meal?"
Antonio nodded. "I was planning to come and replace you earlier, but I was afraid you would refuse, so I didn't dare to come. Today, I happened to have something to do nearby, so I came after I finished. I thought you weren't at home."
Actually, Antonio was quite nervous about coming over. As he pressed the doorbell, he even thought about coming back another time if Yanis wasn't home. But unexpectedly, Yanis was home, leaving him with no choice but to face the situation.
"Let's go," Yanis didn't refuse. She started walking towards the exit.
Antonio followed Yanis, keeping a half step behind her. After a few steps, he asked in a low voice, "Are you still angry about what happened before?"
Yanis slowed down her steps upon hearing his question. "Are you apologizing?" she asked.
Antonio seemed surprised by Yanis's directness and glanced at her with a hint of confusion.
Yanis continued walking. "If you want to apologize, go ahead. Whether I accept it or not is my business."
After a few seconds of silence, Antonio finally said, "I'm sorry."
Yanis replied with a simple "I know."
A bit disappointed with her response, Antonio asked, "Aren't you going to say anything else?"
Yanis reached the car and looked at him. "What do you want me to say? Or what do you want to hear?"
Antonio gazed back at Yanis, slightly at a loss for words.
"Let's drive," Yanis said, not waiting for Antonio to respond, she signaled for him to open the car door.
Stepping forward, Antonio opened the door for Yanis. As Yanis bent down to get into the car, he asked, "What would you like to eat?"
Looking up at Antonio, Yanis replied, "Something you like."
Surprised by her answer, Antonio nodded, "Okay."
After Yanis fastened her seatbelt, she sent a message to Zane, informing him that she was going out with Antonio. As soon as she sent the message, Zane called her. "Why are you with him?" Zane asked.
"He invited me to dinner," Yanis responded.
"Where are you going?"
Yanis turned to look at Antonio, who was now in the car. "Where are we eating?" she asked him.
Antonio glanced at her and said, "The Old Street."
Yanis relayed the information to Zane, "We're going to The Old Street."
"I'll be finished here in about half an hour. I'll come over to meet you later."
"Okay," Yanis replied.
After hanging up the call, Yanis fastened her seatbelt.
"Is your brother coming too? Shall we go somewhere else?" Antonio asked softly, glancing at Yanis.
"No, he's not coming," Yanis responded.
Antonio nodded and started the car, driving away from D-king Castle.
There was silence between them during the ride.
After driving for a while, Antonio spoke up, "When will you have time to go home and visit?"
Yanis turned to look at Antonio. "What happened?" she asked.
Antonio shook his head. "Nothing. They've been asking about you these past two days, and I mentioned it casually. If it's inconvenient, never mind."
Yanis continued to look at Antonio and replied softly, "I'll be going to Burumal in the afternoon. I'll talk about it when I get back."
Antonio nodded. "Okay."
The car soon stopped on the street of The Old Street. Antonio turned off the engine and looked at Yanis. "Let's get out."
Yanis acknowledged and unfastened her seatbelt, following Antonio out of the car.
Yanis remembered that she used to love coming to The Old Street when she was in college. At that time, there were many delicious foods and interesting things around here. There was a bookstore at the east end of the street, not a formal one but a scattered bookstore, where books of all kinds were available at an average price of ten dollars each.
She used to come here often with Bonnie back then, but that bookstore had long since closed down.
Nowadays, The Old Street seemed unfamiliar, like a place she had never been to before.
Antonio walked ahead of Yanis, speaking as they walked, "Many shops here have changed, and it doesn't feel the same as before. But a few of the shops ahead are still run by the same owners." Yanis looked at Antonio. "Did you used to come here often too?"
Antonio replied, "I followed you."
Yanis was taken aback. "Followed me?"
Antonio nodded. "When you were in college, I used to wait for you outside your school gate quite often. But you never noticed, and no one else did either."
