Chapter 1041: A Very Important Presence

Zane had Albi pick up Yanis from D-king Castle after returning to the company.

From the time Yanis officially married Zane and until now, her visits to the Lawrence Group were few and far between.

Though she had been here before, she had never come in so openly.

Now, she entered as Mrs. Lawrence.

Albi escorted Yanis directly to the private elevator.

"Is Zane still busy?" Yanis asked in a hushed tone as the elevator stopped.

Albi nodded, "He should be done by now."

Yanis acknowledged with a nod and followed Albi to Zane's office.

"Mr. Lawrence, Mrs. Lawrence is here," Albi informed softly at the doorway.

Zane stood up upon hearing Albi's words and walked a few steps toward Yanis, "Tired?"

Yanis shook her head, "Not tired. You don't have to be so careful about everything. It's just a car ride, nothing to worry about."

Given Yanis's two previous pregnancies, how could Zane not be cautious?

Especially now, with twins on the way. He couldn't afford to be careless.

In fact, Yanis hadn't come to the company out of boredom. She simply felt more at ease when she could see Zane. It was only when she could see him that she felt a bit more secure. "You do your work, I'll be fine here. I'll call you if I need anything," Yanis reassured, not wanting to disturb Zane's work.

While Zane had delegated much of the company's affairs to Dylan and Phoebe, two projects still required his personal attention to prevent any potential issues and irreversible losses. News of Yanis's presence in the company quickly spread.

"Mrs. Lawrence has never come to the company before, but now she's even working here."

"I heard Mrs. Lawrence is a skilled designer with her own studio. Why would she suddenly come to the Lawrence Group? Is she here to supervise?"

"Maybe she's showing a warning to those who have their eyes on Mr. Lawrence, telling them that he's a married man!"

"Don't you all have work to do?"

As these discussions circulated, a cold voice cut through from behind.

The speaker was Ruth Walpole, the project manager.

"Ms. Walpole."

"Ms. Walpole."

The group greeted Ruth before dispersing.

"Janice Zimmerman," Ruth called out to one of them.

Janice stopped in her tracks and turned to Ruth, "Ms. Walpole, do you need something?"

"Come with me," Ruth instructed before heading toward her office.

"Take care!" the others whispered as Janice left.

Inside the office, Janice stood nervously before Ruth's desk. After Ruth settled into her seat, Janice spoke up, "Ms. Walpole, what did you want to discuss?" Ruth lifted her gaze to Janice, "What were you all talking about just now?"

Janice hadn't expected this question from Ruth. After a moment's hesitation, she replied, "We were... discussing Mrs. Lawrence's presence in the company." While others might not grasp Ruth's intentions, Janice understood.

Ruth had feelings for Zane.

Feelings that had been developing for years.

Upon hearing Janice's answer, Ruth fell silent for a few moments before calmly stating, "I see. You may leave now."

Confused, Janice nodded at Ruth, turned, and left.

After Janice departed, Ruth sat in her chair for a while before standing up and retrieving a document. She made her way to Zane's office.

She had been with the Lawrence Group for four or five years. Zane was someone she could only admire from afar. Her achievements were thanks to him. When she knew nothing, when she faced challenges, Zane was the one who taught her and supported her. Zane was a very important presence in her life.

Meanwhile, in the office, Yanis stared at her phone for a moment before reclining on the couch and dozing off.

When Zane glanced over, he saw Yanis peacefully asleep.

He put down what he was holding and was about to approach when a knock sounded at the door.

Zane froze, looking toward the entrance. "Come in."

The door opened, and Ruth stepped inside. "Mr. Lawrence, I..."

"Wait a moment."

Zane cut off Ruth before she could finish speaking.

Ruth's words got caught in her throat, and she nodded at Zane before quietly standing to the side.

Approaching Yanis, Zane softly called out, "Yanis?"

Yanis made a sound of acknowledgment, reaching out her arms to him in a drowsy state.

Zane bent down and lifted her into his arms, carrying her to the adjoining resting area.

He laid her down on the bed and leaned over to place a gentle kiss on her forehead before leaving the room.

Facing Ruth, Zane's expression was devoid of warmth, a far cry from the manner he'd shown Yanis just moments ago, as if his demeanor had turned cooler.

Ruth was somewhat taken aback, but she managed to replace her voice and said, "Mr. Lawrence, I..."

"What is it?"

Zane interrupted her again before she could continue.

Taken aback, Ruth paused for a moment and then looked at Zane, "Mr. Lawrence."

"What do you need?" Zane repeated.

Gathering her thoughts, Ruth stepped forward and handed him a file, "This is the Southeastern Expedition proposal. Please take a look and sign if you agree."

Zane accepted the file from her, carefully scanning its contents. After reading it, he picked up a pen and signed his name. "If you need anything, contact Phoebe or Mr. Lawrence."

Upon hearing Zane's words, Ruth appeared slightly bewildered, "Mr. Lawrence, aren't you... not in the office?"

"I have some matters to attend to, so for now, they will handle the company affairs," Zane explained.

Ruth nodded in understanding, "Alright, I understand."

Zane replied with a quiet "Go ahead."

Ruth hesitated for a moment, not immediately leaving. Eventually, she turned and exited his office.

As Ruth left, Albi entered shortly after.

"Mr. Lawrence, Miss Bush is here, downstairs," Albi informed Zane in a hushed tone.
