Chapter 1053: What Would You Do If This Child Was Gone?
With Doctor Dobbin's hand resting on the table and Anthony's seat positioned in a way that he could see Doctor Dobbin's phone, Anthony caught sight of the caller ID on Doctor Dobbin's phone. Raising an eyebrow upon seeing the name under the contact, Anthony remarked, "You know each other?"
Doctor Dobbin cleared his throat. "More than that."
The phone continued to ring.
In a calm voice, Anthony suggested, "Go ahead, answer it."
Anthony hadn't anticipated that Doctor Dobbin and Brandon knew each other. This situation was getting awkward.
Doctor Dobbin glanced at Anthony, then picked up the call. "Brandon."
Given that Doctor Dobbin was younger than Brandon, he referred to Brandon as "bro" when they were together.
"Is Anthony with Sandy at your place?" Brandon's inquiry was straightforward, wasting no time.
When Doctor Dobbin heard Brandon's question, he cast a quick look at Anthony before responding, "Yes."
"What are they planning?"
Brandon had his suspicions about Doctor Dobbin's place even before asking the question.
Doctor Dobbin didn't beat around the bush. "She doesn't want it anymore."
Though Doctor Dobbin's statement wasn't explicit, its underlying meaning was crystal clear.
There was a prolonged silence on the other end of the line before Brandon spoke again, his voice heavy, "Don't touch her."
Doctor Dobbin remained silent.
Brandon repeated, more insistently this time, "Don't touch her."
Doctor Dobbin was about to reply when, in an unexpected turn of events, the phone disappeared from his hand, now in Anthony's possession.
Anthony pressed the speaker button and addressed the call with a chilling tone, "Mr. Hawkins, wasn't Sandy's message clear enough? Allow me to clarify for you. You have no say in this matter. This child is not just yours, it's hers too. Whatever she decides, you have no right to interfere."
"Anthony!"
Brandon's voice was tense. "This is between Sandy and me. You have no right to be involved!"
"Well, as of now, it's my business, and everything about Sandy is my business!" Anthony declared.
Before Brandon could respond, Anthony ended the call abruptly.
On the other end of the line, Brandon resisted the urge to throw his phone and instead got into his car.
"Brandon!"
Kason approached Brandon. "Where are you going?"
"I'm going to replace Sandy. You guys go back first."
Kason had rushed over to Anthony's location upon learning of Brandon's whereabouts. Seeing Brandon's demeanor, Kason wasn't comfortable leaving him alone to confront Anthony. "I'm coming with you," Kason insisted in a hushed tone.
Brandon furrowed his brow. "No need, I..."
"Brandon, don't be stubborn. Sandy's situation is more important."
Upon hearing Kason's words, Brandon reconsidered his initial refusal. "Where's my sister?"
"In the car. You drive ahead, and we'll follow you."
Brandon acquiesced, got into his car, and started driving toward Doctor Dobbin's private clinic.
Back in the hospital examination room, Sandy underwent a series of routine tests, and the results were quickly available.
"Miss Thompson, everything looks normal with the child. Are you sure you want to proceed with this?" the female doctor who had conducted the examination asked Sandy gently.
Having been a fan of Sandy's acting in the past, the female doctor was well aware of the recent drama involving Brandon. She understood the delicate situation but knew that the decision ultimately rested with Sandy.
Sandy remained somewhat absentminded after hearing the doctor's question. She fell silent for a few seconds before shaking her head. "There's no need to consider anymore. I don't want my child to grow up without a father."
The female doctor had a sense of how Sandy felt, given her familiarity with the circumstances surrounding Sandy's relationship with Brandon.
"Let's head downstairs and get some medication," the doctor suggested.
Sandy nodded and followed the doctor out of the examination room.
Once they had the necessary medication in hand, Sandy's grip on the container tightened involuntarily, her hands trembling.
"After taking these pills, you might experience some discomfort in your abdomen within half an hour. Contact me when you notice significant bleeding," the female doctor explained the instructions to Sandy in detail.
Sandy listened, her responses subdued. "I understand."
Standing in the hallway, Sandy stared at the medication in her hand for a long while before snapping back to reality. She turned around, intending to get a glass of water to take the pills.
However, as she turned, she saw Brandon rushing toward her, looking frantic and disheveled. He was out of breath, his forehead glistening with sweat.
The moment his gaze met hers, his tension seemed to ease. In a hoarse voice, he called out, "Sandy."
Sandy's eyes welled up with tears as Brandon's voice reached her ears. Her vision blurred, and she couldn't make out his face clearly.
Brandon approached her, panting, and just as he was about to speak, his eyes fell on the medication in her hand. His breath hitched, his complexion turning pale. "Sandy, do I have no chance left?" Having known Brandon for years, Sandy had never seen him like this before.
He looked at her with teary eyes, repeating his plea, "Sandy, do I have no chance left?"
Sandy tightened her grip on the medication. "Brandon, I..."
"I'm sorry." Brandon cut her off. "I should have explained my past before being with you. I shouldn't have been so close to other women, met up with her, or..."
"Brandon."
Sandy's voice was soft yet firm. "If this child were gone today, how would you feel?"
Brandon realized Sandy was referring to the times she had called him repeatedly earlier, not the present moment.
His breath caught, and
he stared at Sandy. Fear gripped him, rendering him unable to speak.
He didn't dare imagine a world without Sandy. He had envisioned a lifetime together, perhaps even beyond that.
