Chapter 1060: Did My Stubbornness Push You Away?

Hearing Sandy's response, a smile tugged at the corners of Brandon's lips. "Hungry?"

Sandy nodded and replied, "Are you cooking?"

"Yes, it's almost ready," Brandon confirmed.

Initially, Brandon had intended to have Berton arrange for food from a restaurant, but considering Sandy was still sleeping and he wasn't sure when she would wake up, he had ultimately opted to have Berton bring ingredients and cook himself.

Sandy released her hold on Brandon and said, "Go ahead and cook."

With an agreement, Brandon helped Sandy replace her slippers before heading to the kitchen. He left the slippers near her feet. "Don't run around barefoot."

Sandy nodded and, like a boneless creature, reclined on the couch. "Got it."

Turning back to the kitchen, Brandon re-entered.

The kitchen had a semi-open design, allowing Sandy to observe Brandon's bustling figure.

After lounging on the couch for a while, Sandy sat up and was about to go to Brandon when her phone rang.

The phone belonged to Brandon, but upon seeing the caller ID, Sandy picked it up directly. "Mr. Lawrence?"

"It's me, Sandy," came Yanis's voice from the other end.

Hearing Yanis's voice, Sandy's tone softened. "Yanis."

"Has your sister arrived?" Yanis inquired softly.

Sandy responded with an affirmative, "She arrived this morning."

Upon hearing Sandy's words, she seemed to have a sense of Yanis's intention for the call. Glancing toward the kitchen, she reassured him, "Yanis, don't worry. I'm fine, and we're fine."

On the other end of the line, Yanis let out a relieved sigh. "You're all grown up now. Be a good girl."

Sandy acknowledged with a sound, "I got a bit carried away this time."

Sandy wasn't typically one to act recklessly. Her behavior this time might have been due to excessive emotional response, perhaps more than warranted.

Having learned from Stella's experience, Sandy likely didn't have the ability to think clearly when she heard the rumors about Brandon and Olive, let alone consider the situation rationally. She just crumbled in an instant.

If Sandy had managed to retain a bit of reason at that moment, things might not have turned out the way they did.

When she had first seen the news, her heart had been in turmoil, but she had managed to maintain an outward calm and said, "I trust him."

Yet, her internal state of mind at that time was something only she knew.

Sandy had called to console Sandy, but upon hearing that everything was fine, Yanis didn't press further. They exchanged a few more words before ending the call.

After hanging up, Sandy got up immediately and headed toward the kitchen, seemingly having forgotten what Brandon had just said.

Entering the kitchen, Brandon hadn't even turned around when Sandy wrapped her arms around him from behind, nuzzling her face against his back. In a soft, affectionate tone, she called out, "Brandon." Brandon turned around, finishing with the ingredients before washing his hands. He then faced Sandy and asked, "What's wrong?"

Sandy, with her face still buried in his back, asked in a muffled voice, "What if... I mean, if I got too stubborn today, would you not want me anymore?"

Though Sandy's phrasing wasn't entirely straightforward, both of them understood the implication of her words.

Upon hearing her question, Brandon fell silent for a few seconds before lifting his hand to embrace her tightly. He whispered, "If you were really that stubborn, the blame would mostly be on me." Sandy looked up at him, her eyes filled with shock, realization, and even a hint of bewilderment.

Brandon didn't look away; they held each other's gaze.

Seeing the corners of her eyes turning red, he quickly lowered his head to kiss her. He initially intended to give her a quick kiss and then get back to cooking. However, Sandy's initiative was making it difficult for him to maintain control. Knowing that they couldn't take things further at the moment, he reluctantly pushed her back onto the couch, his voice hoarse as he said, "Stay seated. I'm going to cook." Brandon swiftly stood up, nearly escaping the situation.

Although he said he was going to cook, Brandon took a detour upstairs, taking a cold shower before coming back down to prepare the meal for Sandy.

Observing Brandon's actions, Sandy couldn't help but smile with joy.

Listening to the soft laughter coming from the living room, Brandon felt himself finally relax.

After they finished eating, Brandon cleaned up the dishes while Sandy reclined on the couch, her gaze following his movements.

When Brandon emerged from the kitchen, Sandy immediately reached out her hand toward him. "Brandon."

Brandon approached and embraced her. "Want to go out for a walk?"

Sandy shook her head. "I don't feel like moving."

"Then let's stay in."

Sandy acknowledged with a sound. After a moment, she looked up at Brandon. "About this... Does Aunt Bruton know?"

Brandon glanced down at the person nestled against him, his voice soft as he replied, "She doesn't know."

Kason and Maya wouldn't tell Aunt Bruton about Sandy's decision not to have children. At most, they would inform her about the conflict between Olive and Brandon, but they wouldn't tell her the whole truth. Upon hearing Brandon's response, Sandy finally felt at ease. She whispered, "Don't tell her about this. There's no need to worry her."

Brandon nodded. "Alright."

With their emotions now calm, Sandy began to inquire about Olive's situation.

Brandon was about to answer when his phone rang.

Seeing the caller ID, Brandon hesitated for a few seconds before answering the call. "Nelson?"

"It's me," came the voice on the other end.

The voice, however, wasn't Nelson's; it was a weak, almost feeble woman's voice.

Upon hearing the voice, Brandon's grip on the phone tightened involuntarily. After a moment, he responded, "How are you feeling? Are you getting better?"

Olive's voice on the other end was barely audible. "I'm sorry."
