"What do you think you are doing hmm, darling?" Gage's lazy morning voice echoed out and jolted Eva out of her musings that she straightened her spine almost immediately like a girl scout at attention.

Her face was tinted with a very becoming shade of red as she looked at him smirking devilishly at her. He did not even twitch a little when she had poked him in the ribs. Darn! That was embarrassing! It seemed as though that this devil was one of those non-ticklish ones! What were the odds that her luck was so bad?!

Clearing her throat, Eva quickly gathered herself. "Please rise and get ready, Mr. Acheron. We can't be rushing over to work again today because that's just too tiring. Also, you are no longer a child who needs someone to wake you up every single morning. You're already an adult, so I am really hoping you will cooperate and be responsible for yourself." She had already assumed her professional working tone that she customarily uses when at the office.

She sounded so serious. Even though she had not raised nor harden her voice, he still could feel the weight of her scolding. Ah, this little tigress of his...

Gage could not help but let out a lazy sigh as he stretched himself, working out the little kinks in his joints after lying motionless in bed for hours. He was expecting her to be a little bit shy or to at least have a little change in her reactions towards him after that kiss they had shared last night. But... why did it seem as though she had become even stiffer and colder to him than before he had kissed her?

"Did you sleep well, Eva?" he asked, finally pushing himself up and leaning an elbow on his bended knee.

He rested his temple on his knuckles as he waited for her answer, looking as though he had all the time in the world to be patiently waiting for her to respond.

She looked away and stared at the window for a moment. "I did. Now please get up and get ready for work." She returned her attention to him for a brief moment before turning around crisply and left his room. "I'll go get dressed now. See you downstairs, Mr. Acheron."

And she was gone with that parting statement.

Gage leaned against the headboard. His eyes narrowing a little as he smiled in disbelief. Looking as though he was quite intrigued at a certain puzzle that he could not quite believe he was having a hard time figuring out, much less solving.

...

Their second day at work was less hectic than yesterday. They had managed to arrive with time to spare and did not have to rush. Eva was thankful for that at least.

Eva had smoothly done every job that was required of her like always. She was meticulous and fast and amazing. She was literally like a machine when she was in her working mode.

Just by watching her work, Gage could not help but shake his head and label her adoptive family just plain stupid for wasting such a gem like her when they had not wanted her anymore and discarded her. But then he thought that perhaps, her adoptive family might have gotten scared and intimidated by her powerful abilities. Perhaps they had even felt threatened that one day, a child who was not related to them by blood would rule their empire and eventually take it away from them. Such fools were the Young family.

Her family was one of those clans that had cared so much about their family roots and bloodlines. They were one of those who only trusted a blood-related family with their wealth. So what they had done was not really a shocking move. Still. That did not make what they had done to Eva as something that was forgivable. To think that they had planned to ruin her by framing her. They knew that with Eva's calibre, she would definitely be headhunted and chased after by many top companies and they did not want that happening as it might be a direct competition to their own company's wellbeing. Thus, they planned it all and Gage must say that the mastermind of this plan was pretty smart. Because they did not dare underestimate Eva at all.

Putting his tablet down, Gage leaned his head back as these thoughts filled his mind.

He thought that he would probably need to stall a little in dealing with this matter. He could probably start now and dig all of XY's dirt out and get his hands on all the evidence that were needed. And even more than needed, in fact. But the image of Eva's suspicious glare as she looked at him, had him smiling on his own.

He could already imagine her getting more and more doubtful of him if he completed the job in what she deemed to be at an impossible pace and that was the last thing that he wanted. So yeah, he should just take his own sweet time and deal with it one step at a time, in what she would consider as a reasonable enough speed. So there was no need for him to rush.

On their way home, the sound of an alarm clock ringing echoed inside their car, causing Gage to look down at his wristwatch. It was already ten minutes past ten in the evening.

Glancing at her, he saw her turning off the alarm she had set on her phone. He was wondering what that alarm was for when she looked up at him.

His brow raised and a disbelieving smile nearly burst forth from his face as he realized what that alarm might have been for.

"It's time for my task." She said seriously and then she moved closer to him.

Gage was speechless. Seriously? She had even set an alarm so that there was no longer any chance for her to forget it? What a bloody cruel little tigress... He had not expected for her to take such precautionary measures. And it came, that unceremonious punch in the lips.
