Chapter 512 Trap

Emery whispered, "Why are you calling me now? Didn't we agree not to contact each other recently?"

Emery's voice sounded anxious because of Benjamin's test the previous day.

Frank was unable to discern the tremors of fear in Emery's voice. Nor did he know how Emery was truly feeling in that moment. Frank asked, "Are you alright? Are you still at the construction site? I brought you some food. Can you come out for a bit?" "You're outside?"

"Yes."

"Why would you come here again? Don't you realize I nearly got caught because of our last meeting? This is an extraordinary time. Don't come to me again. Otherwise, it'll reveal that we were responsible for the landslide."

As the sponsor, Frank was Emery's superior. But the fear of losing his job and facing legal consequences made Emery furiously warn Frank.

Frank, however, was focused on the key points. "Just stay calm. As long as you don't tell anyone, no one will know. But what do you mean you were almost caught?"

"What else could it mean? I was suspected. Fortunately, my answers didn't have any flaws, so my boss believed me. Otherwise, I might be in a cell right now."

Thinking back to Benjamin's interrogation, Emery couldn't help but shudder. He'd managed to escape Charlie's questioning, but the experience had left him deeply shaken.

Frank was about to probe further about who suspected Emery when a sudden noise crackled through the line. "Emery? Emery?"

"Do you want to ask who suspected Emery?" A deep voice slowly came from the phone. Frank felt his blood run cold.

He held his breath and stared in disbelief at the phone. The number displayed was Emery's, but the voice was undoubtedly Benjamin's.

Frank remained silent, the urge to hang up the phone rising within him. But Benjamin's voice cut through the line once more. "You don't even dare to speak when you hear my voice? Frank, if you don't have the courage for this, how do you fight me?"

The provocation was the spark to Frank's smoldering anger.

Frank snorted and said calmly, "Why wouldn't I dare? What can you do to me? If you really had the power, wouldn't you have acted by now? Your threats over the phone show

how little you can actually do

Benjamin smiled, his tone unhurried. "Frank, what do you think I need to do to deal with you? Isn't your own admission just now the best evidence?" The realization dawned on Frank, stunning him into silence.

Frank thought, "Benjamin had known everything for a while. Because there was no direct proof linking me to the incident, he had held off on taking action. Instead, he had deliberately allowed my weaknesses to be exposed, trapping me in this precarious position.

If I had remained calm and done nothing, Benjamin would have had no evidence."

Frank turned cold and cursed, "You are so despicable."

"Thank you for the compliment. To deal with someone as despicable as you, I must indeed adopt a certain flexibility in tactics," Benjamin replied, his voice oozing sarcasm. Benjamin had backed Frank into a corner. Gritting teeth, Frank yelled, "Benjamin, even if you gather evidence, do you think you can catch me? I have the final say!"

Frank abruptly hung up the phone, yanking out the SIM card, and powered off the device.
