I Refuse to Divorce! -
Chapter 127
Mason and Zoe looked at each other intensely.
He noticed she was wearing a patient's gown and that she lookedrather pale. He then realized she had a resigned look on her face asshe regarded him, as if she didn't know him at all.
It wasn't that long ago when she was lying in his arms and speaking tohim tenderly.
“It might take me years, even decades, to rediscover my love for you,Mason. Would you still want it then?”
He meant it when he said, “I would!” However, he couldn't deny that hedid squander her love after that.
They stared at each other for a long time. At last, he spoke with atrembling voice, “Zoe!”
He tried to grab her hand, but she shoved him away.
A hint of sadness traced her lips as she spoke sternly, “I've been sonaive! I can't believe I thought you were really starting to love me! Tothis day, you still thought I set you up that night. Just what am I to you?“I can't believe I expected you to love me and that we're really startingover! This is just ridiculous, Mason. Are you just that good atmanipulating people, or am I just that big of a moron?!
“I thought the worst thing that could happen was that you didn’t love mein the end!
“It turns out it was just you still wanting to toy with me! Answer me,Mason. When will you stop toying with me? When will you let me go? Ican’t afford to be your plaything anymore!”
She didn’t want to cry, but her tears flowed uncontrollably when sheheard the truth. She knew he didn't love her, but they had been havingsex for three years on end. That had to have done something!
The truth, however, was that she was merely a plaything to him and heplanned on toying with her for much longer. He merely thought of heras a worthless whore!
Mason tried to touch her again, but she shoved him much fiercer thanshe did earlier.
Taking a series of steps back, her frame looked frail under the morninglight as she stared at him through tears. They clouded her vision, butshe put on a smile defiantly, “Don’t touch me, Mason. I told you, you'reso filthy that I couldn't bear the idea of you touching me!”
With that, she turned and left. Cecil called out after her, “Zoe!” but shewas long gone. She couldn't hear him or anything else. The only thingshe could hear now was his stinging words.
“I'm not done toying with her!”
Mason was stunned.
With tears in her eyes, the servant was almost sobbing when shegrumbled, “Where were you last night, Mr. Mason? Ms. Zoe wassuffering excruciating pain from stomach spasms. I gave you severalcalls but you didn’t pick up any of them. I have no idea how I'm going toexplain myself to Ms. Zoe's mother if anything happened to her!”
He stared at her and said, “Zoe's not feeling well, you say...”
She was about to say something when she heard a lady's agonizingscream, along with some feeble cries from the ward. Without amoment's delay, he charged back into the ward.
Stunned, she asked her master after a brief pause, “Aren't yousupposed to go after Ms. Zoe, Mr. Mason?"
Lilith was hooked up to a ventilator again. Mason simply couldn't leave. It was raining by the time everything settled down and he raceddownstairs. The black limousine was parked in the rain, its wipersswishing left and right.
Zoe was in the car. The car window was all that was separating them.Raindrops slid down the window, mirroring the movement of the tearson her cheeks.
The door was locked.
Hammering the car window, Mason said, “Open up, Zoe! Let meexplain.” He wanted to tell her that she had got it all wrong. He didn’ttreat her as badly as she claimed. In fact, he was happy when he waswith her.
However, his cries fell on deaf ears.
After a while, she turned to him slowly, her eyes were slightly red whenshe looked at him as if he was a stranger in her life. Parting her lips, she said to Luke, “Drive!”
Luke was too afraid to say anything. So, he stepped on the gas pedalat once.
