Chapter 11
After having breakfast outside, I arrived at the hospital. As I walked past Damon’s department, he immediately came out upon seeing me.
“How was the breakfast I made?” he asked. “I
searched for a lot of tutorials online to make
it…”
I ignored his chatter and walked right past him. Seeing that I didn’t respond, Damon’s face
darkened.
He tried to catch up to me, but I stopped and turned to face him. “Damon, it’s useless.”
With a composed voice, I said, “When I needed
you, you were with Carol. When my father

passed away, you were with Carol. When I organized the funeral, you were with Carol. Even this morning, when you tried to make up, you still went to see Carol halfway through. Damon, since you were never there when I needed you, why not just disappear now so we can part ways peacefully?”
With that, I walked away quickly, leaving him standing there, stunned.
Damon looked flustered. In his mind, he never thought he was in the wrong. Even though I asked for a divorce, he still believed he loved me and couldn’t understand why I wanted to leave.
I cared about his overly close relationship with Carol, but he saw no problem with it. I no longer had the energy to explain because you can’t

wake someone who’s pretending to sleep.
Damon walked back to his office, looking lost. His colleagues immediately started gossiping.
“What’s wrong, lost your wife?” a female colleague teased, noticing the tension between
- us.
Damon, clearly upset, shot her a glare.
“Don’t blame me for speaking the truth. Anyone would be jealous if their partner was so close to Carol,” she continued.
“I wasn’t!” Damon tried to defend himself but
was quickly interrupted.
“Oh, come on. You’re always with Carol. Anyone

who doesn’t know you would think you two are married. Ashley has been very gracious not to confront you directly. If my husband disrespected me like that, I would have divorced him ages ago. Damon, if you like Carol, just divorce Ashley and stop torturing a wonderful woman like her.”
Damon trembled, seemingly shaken by her words. “No, I don’t like Carol!”
The female colleague laughed. “Could have fooled me. You didn’t even attend your mentor’s funeral because you were with Carol. And you have the nerve to say you don’t like her?”
Her words hit Damon hard, like a dagger to his heart.
