Inner Woman
Midnight Meow

Winding my way

Through the slats

of a fence

My fur catches

Snags

Time to groom

But I need to hunt

The mouse leads me on

I

pause in the glow

of silver white

rays

as the moonbeams

dance

There, beside the crate

with its pitiful

trap.

You might get the mouse,

the rat

or the skunk

But with my paw,

and a single claw,

I pull the fish

like it was in a dish

An easy meal for me

I am free

A shadow in the night

I meow my delight

Light on my feet

I leap from branch

to rail

and replace my way

up

to my roof top

Perch

Here I will stay

Until light of day

When I’ll replace my den

to mourn my yen

for shelter, love

litter box

and lox

are not the glove

to fit my four white

socks
