"Yes, thank you." Chloe got into the car without any hesitation.

As soon as she was in, the driver locked the car. At the same time, a cold knife pressed against herneck. "Move and I’ll end you.”

Chloe stiffened, thinking it was a robber. She steadied her breathing and said cautiously, "Sir, I havemoney. How much do you want? Please don't hurt me."

The man laughed. "How much do you think your life is worth?"

"Staying alive is most important. I won't be stingy if I can afford it."

What a joke! Of course, money was not as important as one's life. Nothing else mattered if one wasdead.

"Such a pity, but we don't want your money."

A sense of foreboding swept over her. "What do you mean?"

In the next second, someone covered her head with a black bag. Her vision was cut off as the knifeat her neck pressed deeper. The deep pain caused her breathing to hitch. She could feel the men’smurderous intent.

She quickly came to the conclusion that this was not a simple robbery. Xavia had most probablyinformed Duskfall, so they sent assassins after her. Callum proved to be unreliable, his bodyguardsnowhere to be found at this critical moment.

The car made its way toward the city center. "There are traffic cops up ahead. What should we do?"

"It'll be fine. Drive as per usual and don’t arouse suspicion. We'll turn off the road after thisintersection."

Chloe clenched her fists and knew that this might be her only chance to get help. The results wouldbe unimaginable if she missed it. She struggled to focus as sweat rolled down her face. She slowlyput her hand into her pocket and found her personal alarm. At the same time, she kept an ear onthe sounds outside.

She had always bumped into drunk men while abroad and got used to carrying an alarm on her.Though she was now back in her homeland, she still carried it around. And once the car entered thebusy roads, the cops would surely hear the alarm.

As the traffic grew louder, Chloe prepared to risk it. But suddenly, a heavy impact caught her offguard and sent her flying. Her head buzzed and her body ached. Before her mind cleared, hersurroundings became noisy.

"Fuck! Someone hit our car. The cops are coming toward us."

"Ignore them. Just turn around now.”

As the driver said this to his accomplice, their car was hit again.

"What the hell? It's like they’re doing this on purpose."

“It’s the royal family’s bodyguards!"

Chloe could not see anything but she still boldly pressed on her alarm. The loud piercing noiseshocked everyone. Feeling the person holding her being startled and letting go of her, she quicklyfumbled for the door handle and tried to escape.

"Ah!"

She had managed to get the door open, but the driver grabbed her hair and held her back. Eventhough the black bag, she felt like her hair was being ripped off.

"You’re not getting away, bitch!”

Chloe was in too much pain to speak. Her eyes became teary as despair and fear overwhelmedher.

The car started speeding forward recklessly. One of the men grabbed her alarm and threw it out ofthe car. As the traffic cops were left behind and Chloe felt that all hope was lost, the car that had hitthem earlier took a detour and caught up with them.

Shatter!

The car window broke.

Chloe shuddered, and in the next second, she smelled gunpowder. She quickly bent to get out ofthe way upon realizing what was happening. The person beside her started cursing and firing back.

After what felt like a long time, her surroundings fell into silence. She smelled blood in the air as herheart beat wildly. She took off the bag on her head and scanned her surroundings.

"You look terrified, Ms. Chloe.”

Two men in black hats appeared before her. Joseph stood beside them, both hands in his pockets.Chloe was stunned and confusion overcame her. "Why are you with Callum's men?"

"You should address him as your father." Joseph cocked an eyebrow at her.

She sneered. "I think you should handle your own family affairs before sticking your nose where itdoesn’t belong."

Joseph was baffled.

"Xavia’s the mastermind of what happened tonight."
