Chapter 18

Chapter 18

Summer Frost NOW

My eyes narrowed in shock and I froze on the spot as Hunter held me in his arms with his lips almost on mine since his thumb was in between our lips, preventing them from touching. He didn’t really kiss me.

I thought it was not going to work, but it did. Xander left immediately in his car angrily, and I quickly stepped away from him.

“Wh…why did you do that?” My voice quivered as I wiped my lips, looking everywhere else except his face. My heart pounded hard in my chest, not because I felt something for him, but because I was caught off guard.

“You asked me to get rid of him, and I did. Don’t you think you owe me one?” He tucked his hands inside his pockets and shrugged.

“Sorry about that, but it was the only way I could get rid of him that easily. You still owe me for that, anyway,” He patted my shoulder briefly and turned

to leave.

“I’m a terrible person, Hunter…” He stopped on his track and threw his head back as he sighed.

“See what I just did? I used you to hurt someone… I used you to get what I want. Why don’t you tell Dad to stop? You are only going to get hurt if you keep pushing this. You will always end up as nothing but my tool to get Xander jealous,” I knew it didn’t make sense, but I didn’t want to hurt the innocent man and his feelings.

Silence crept into the atmosphere.

“What if I tell you that I want nothing more than to be by your side?” He finally turned around and faced me, his eyes filled with emotions.

ht guilt

“What if I tell you that it doesn’t matter what I am to you, but I’ll be happy for as long as I get to stay by your side?” The sincerity in his eyes sent down my spine, and I bit my bottom lip. Hunter was the last person who deserved to be treated that way, he was too nice to be used by me.

“If using me will make me stay by your side, then it’d be an honor to me,” He smiled at me, but I wasn’t so foolish not to see the pain hidden in the smile

“Hunter”

“You said you

would go on a date with me. Don’t change your mind, I’ll send you the address and the time soon,” He smiled at me then walked over to his car which was parked in front of my gate, and hopped inside.

I felt hamble. It felt like I was the most inconsiderate and heartless person on earth.

“This is I breathed in and out briefly.

My phone’s ringtone disrupted my thoughts, and I checked to see that it was an alarm. It was almost time for the kids to leave the school. I was still standing outside the gate when I heard footsteps behind me, so I turned around and saw Chloe.

“Ma’am, it’s time to go pick the kids from…”

Don’t worry about that. I will go pick them up from school. You should make lunch,” I cut her off, and she nodded. I promised my kids earlier that I was going to pick them up from school myself, and I didn’t want to disappoint them.

“Get me my car keys, please,” She left inmediately and three minutes later, she returned to meet me at the parking lot with the car keys.

Do you

need me to make anything else while you are away,

ay, ma’am? Also, are the kids coming over here or are they going to the Miller’s villa?” She

asked.

“I’m bringing them here. You can go ahead, I don’t need anything else,” And with that, I hopped inside the car and drove out of the house,

I tried not to think of anything that would get me distracted as I drove down the road, and thankfully, the ride to the school was a successful one.

The bell for students‘ dismissal rang as soon as I pulled over at the parking lot, and just like I had come to get my kids, other parents were around too.

I waited at the parking lot to get my kids, and after about six minutes of waiting, I finally spotted them walking down the verandah together. “Mommy!” They both squeaked excitedly and ran into my arms as soon as they saw me.

“You really came.” Jake smiled at me excitedly, and I smiled.

“Yes, darling. I promised you guys that I’d be here to pick you up. So, how was school today?” I ruffled their hair, and they smiled.

“It was great. Mommy, Uncle was nice to us. He came to apologize to us during lunch break today, and he bought us snacks for lunch,” I pulled a puzzled look when Jack said with a smiles on his face.

“Uncle? Do you have a new teacher?” I was perplexed because the last time I checked, their teacher was a female.

“No…. It’s Ella’s Dad,” Jak

Jake chipped in, leaving me even more confused.

“Ella’s Dad? Who is that?”

“Uhm… He is…”

“Uncle… Over here! Mommy is here,” Jack was still t

I trying to explain to me when Jake waved at someone. I quickly looked in the direction where he had

waved, and my eyebrows furrowed when I saw that it was Xander. He was holding the little girl from the other day.

“Mommy, you should say hi to Uncle. He is nice,” Jake held my finger and looked up at me.

“Get inside the car, kids,” I pulled the car door open and instructed them.

“But, Mom…”

“I told you to get inside the car. Now!” I didn’t mean to be harsh on my kids, but I couldn’t afford to have that jerk around them.

“Yes, Mommy,” They both hopped inside the car, and I closed the door behind them. I had expected Xander to come to us, but he was just standing there and looking at me.

I watched as he walked over to his car, hopped inside, and drove out.

“Hmphi is be ignoring me or something? Those words slipped out of my mouth before I could hold them back, and I scoffed angrily. I mean, why the fuck do I care if he ignored me or not?

“Whatever!” I hopped inside the car and fastened my seatbelt.

“I don’t want you guys to talk to strangers. It’s dangerous out here, and you can’t just trust anyone like that,” I looked at my boys through the rearview mirror, and they glanced at each other.

“Mommy, but Uncle is a nice man…”

“Not everyone that gets you snacks is nice. Stop talking to strangers,” insisted, and they sighed.

“Yes, Mommy,” They replied in unison.
