Although I was uttering nonsense, my tears were genuine. I couldn’t believe

this family? Where was the man who used to protect me? Why had he turned

out like this? The pain, fear, and helplessness I had experienced over the past

few days poured out of me all at once.

“Why…” I almost blurted out the question that was tormenting me inside. Why

are you treating me like this?

I cried even harder to cover up my slip–up and rubbed the spot where I had

been stabbed. “It was here. It was such a long needle. I–It hurt!”

My heart–wrenching cries drained my weak body, and I couldn’t prevent

myself from collapsing to the ground. I knew I was on the verge of fainting. My

heart was pounding so hard that I felt nauseous.

“Stop crying, Danielle!” Kevin seemed to sense that something was wrong

with me. As my body slipped out of his arms, he quickly scooped me up and

carried me back to my room. After laying me down on the bed, he turned on

the lights.

I continued to sob and choke out my accusations. “Why don’t I ever see you…

With those words, the hope I felt and the longing for the tenderness he used

The wave of despair was the last straw. I screamed at the top of my lungs

until I spat out a mouthful of blood. Yet, my mind was unusually alert.

Kevin panicked and clumsily wiped my mouth with a tissue. I saw the white

tissue quickly stained with a horrifying red.

I lost all hope. My strength crumbled, and I was terrified. Am I going to die? I

can’t. I haven’t gotten my revenge yet. I can’t let anything happen to me, and

I have to survive. I need to take my children away from this monster.
