Lies in My Marriage by Lane Abbott -

Chapter 20 Investigating Kevin’s Actions
Chapter 20
Upon discovering my relationship with Kevin, my parents strongly
disapproved of his career as a stylist. In their eyes, he was merely someone
who spent his days idly, dressed in unconventional attire and making
questionable connections. They deemed him unreliable.
Furthermore, Kevin hailed from an average family. The Diazes, a large family,
consisted of Kevin, his older brother, younger brother, and younger sister.
Despite their number, none of them excelled academically.
Kevin had abandoned high school to pursue hairstyling, a profession my
parents did not endorse. They attempted to persuade me to end the
relationship.
To their dismay, I adamantly refused to yield. I stubbornly resisted all their

advice, eventually forcing them to compromise.

Only after I married Kevin and gave birth to our oldest son, Tim, did my
parents begin to accept him. With the arrival of Mark, Kevin started working
as my assistant, providing assistance at the company. When Felix was born,
Kevin changed careers, transitioning from a stylist to the legitimate boss of
Dandelion Health.
Throughout the years, Kevin always presented himself humbly and
cautiously in front of my parents, seemingly afraid of upsetting them. He
often used the excuse of being too occupied with work to accompany me on
visits to my parents in Sunbury. I chose not to argue about it, replaceing a sense
of freedom in this arrangement.
I never expected him to visit my parents of his own accord. He event
remembered my mother’s birthday, displaying thoughtfulness.

*I completely forgot about Mom’s birthday. It’s so kind of you to remember!” I
expressed, feeling touched as I gazed at him.
“How could I forget? Since you’re not feeling well, I should do more. They’re in
their seventies now. We can’t burden them with worries,” Kevin replied,
knowing all the right things to say. He appeared to be the perfect son–in–law.
Internally, I scolded myself for my blindness. Why did I fall in love with this
deceitful creature? He was a demon. I regretted not heeding my parents‘
advice.
Tears welled up in the corners of my eyes, but Kevin swiftly wiped them away.
“What’s wrong? Why are you crying?”
“What did you tell them about me?” I stared into his eyes, desperate for an
answer.

“I told them you went abroad. After all, for treating anxiety, it’s crucial that you
remain relaxed and free from worries. Moreover, experts abroad have
developed excellent treatment options for such conditions,” Kevin explained
matter–of–factly. He didn’t forget to defend himself either. “I assured them.
that you would return soon, so you need to recover quickly, alright? Don’t
make me a liar. I had no choice. It was just a harmless white lie.”
I smiled without uttering a word. A chill ran down my spine as I mockingly
sneered to myself, What a perfect scheme. Even if I die, I brought it upont
myself while I was abroad. My demise would have no connection to him.
I didn’t know how much of what he said about visiting my parents was true. I
had to wait for Hailey’s response.
However, one thing became crystal clear to me. I needed to replace a way to
undergo a comprehensive health check–up as soon as possible. I had to

ascertain the state of my well–being.
“I’ll call Mom and Dad later then. It’s been so long since I last spoke to them. I
miss them so much!” I played along and mentioned.
True to form, Kevin immediately deflected the idea. “Do it later. Now isn’t the
best time due to the time difference and all.”
He then got out of bed and approached me. “Come on. Let’s get out of bed!”
“Go wash up first. I want to sit in bed for a while. I feel a little dizzy. I’ll wash up
later,” I pushed him away, sat up, and weakly leaned against the headboard.
Kevin glanced at me and nodded. “Alright. I’ll wash up first, and then I’ll assist
you.”

He leaned down and kissed me before heading to the bathroom. Once I
heard the sound of running water, I quickly retrieved my phone and sent
Halley a text. After concealing my phone again, I got out of bed.
Although my mind felt clear and alort aftor a restful night’s sleep, the
previous night’s crying opisode had taken a toll on my body. I felt as if I were
floating and had very little strongth.
As I sat on tho odgo of the bed, I contemplated how I could retrieve my
original coll phone, which contained many important items.
Once Kevin finished washing up, he approached and carried me into the
bathroom. While assisting me with washing up, he engaged in conversation,
acting like the perfect husband he used to be.
It struck me as odd. Tania hadn’t brought me any medication today, and

Kevin hadn’t mentioned it either. I felt a bit perplexed.
