Love at the Door Chapter 25
Chapter 25
Melina suddenly felt a little homesick. When she was little, there were times she couldn’t even afford to eat bread.
The villagers would replace her passed out from hunger and give her food. To make her feel better, they would all lie and say that the food was leftovers.
Melina was a grateful person. She knew when people were kind to her.
She nodded to Helena. “Thank you.”
Then, she happily went home with the lively fish. Helena was a good person too. Melina was content with her peaceful life.
At Wentworth Corporation, Andrew’s mood worsened with each passing day. He left Melina alone for a few days. He didn’t believe that Melina didn’t desire anything.
He thought she would replace a chance to look for him whenever she came to Oakread, but an entire week passed without Melina even trying to look for him. Did she actually come just to work as a fishmonger?
Andrew was sitting in his office. His assistant reported softly beside him.
“On the seventh of July, Ms. Crawford butchered fish for the entire day in the supermarket. Her boss had a bad temper and scolded her 15 times. She ate bread for lunch and dinner.
“On the eighth of July, Ms. Crawford fell from her rental bike and was scolded 20 times. She ate bread for lunch and dinner again.
“On the ninth of July, Ms. Crawford stared at the sunny side–up egg of the opposite stall for three minutes. She was scolded 13 times. She finally managed to eat fish on this day…”
Andrew was rendered speechless. Upon hearing the news, he could only describe Melina as frugal. What was she doing?
She didn’t want to return to Oakread and instead chose to work as a fishmonger in Oakread’s supermarket. Every day, she had to endure verbal abuse. What was she acting all pitiful for?
If Melina knew what Andrew was thinking, she would definitely punch him in the face. She was so busy that she had almost forgotten about Andrew’s existence. Why would she have time to put on an act for him?
After listening to the report, Andrew coldly ordered, “Have someone destroy that fish stall and teach her boss a lesson.”
His assistant lowered his head and answered, “Understood.”
Andrew wasn’t standing up for Melina. He simply couldn’t allow anyone to bully his pet.
Melina was washing her apron in the supermarket. Samuel had gone to the wholesale market to fetch new supplies. Helena was watching the stall.
A few men in black walked up to the stall and immediately flipped a tank over. The fish fell to the floor with their tails flopping wildly.
Helena came to her senses and yelled angrily, “Who are you people? What are you doing?”
The men didn’t answer. They simply started destroying everything they could reach.
Since Samuel wasn’t around, Helena stepped forward to stop them. But how could a woman like her stop several burly men?
Helena was shoved to the floor. One of the men aimed a kick at her.
Melina was inside. Hearing the commotion, she put her apron down, rushed over, and finally saw what was happening.
Her face paled. She quickly stepped forward and shoved the man aiming a kick at Helena aside. She shielded Helena behind her and shouted, “Stop!”
The men snarled at Melina, “Mind your own business.”
She was facing off against four burly men, but Melina still protected Helena and refused to back down.” Don’t you dare destroy anything or hit anyone!”
If she didn’t need to shield Helena, she would’ve fought back. Although she was stronger than the average person since she was little, she might not win against four people.
Helena fell on her butt on the floor. Upon seeing Melina’s tiny figure standing in front of her, she was speechless.
Helena had a sharp tongue, so she didn’t have a good relationship with the other stall owners. When the incident happened, the other stall owners watched from a distance, thinking that Helena offended
someone.
But Melina always wore a smile on her face. She helped the lady who sold vegetables wash her vegetables, the old man who sold fruits carry his fruits and the lady who sold roast chicken next door wipe her tables.
