Love Burned, She Rose Unscathed -
Chapter 233
"Get out!"
"Murray..."
"Didn't you hear me? I said get out!"
Millie bit her lip, shaking all over.
But there wasn't a trace of pity on Murray's face. "And don't you dare step foot in here again without my permission, got it?"
"Why?" Millie looked up at him, her eyes brimming with tears. "This bedroom is supposed to be ours, isn't it? Why can't I come in?"
"Ours?" The smirk on his face was nearly cruel. "You think you're worthy?"
Millie swayed, nearly losing her balance.
Murray didn't move to catch her, watching with the detached amusement of a spectator. His mocking gaze seemed to say-keep acting, keep pretending.
"Get out!"
Millie turned and left, utterly defeated.
"Wait..." Murray stopped her.
Millie's eyes sparked with hope.
But then Murray said, "Take your trash with you."
In the end, Millie left the master bedroom carrying a tray.
"Madam, did Mr. Sherwood not eat again?" asked the maid.
Millie quickly composed herself and sighed, "No, he didn't want to eat. No matter how much I tried, he just wouldn't. Please take care of this. I'll go check on him again..."
"Of course, Madam. You go ahead, we'll handle this."
"Thanks." Millie nodded, satisfied, and headed back upstairs.
But the moment she turned away, her smile vanished.
Looking towards the master bedroom, she swore to herself someday, she would make it hers.
That evening, Murray didn't go out. Instead, at nine o'clock, he had Sadie bring a meal up to his room.
Millie was staying in the guest room next door. Hearing Sadie come and go, she bit her lip.
Was she really less than a servant in his eyes?
Suddenly, her phone rang.
It was her college roommate.
Millie swiped to answer-
"Hey, Yvette."
"Millie, are you okay?" Yvette's voice was filled with concern.
But Millie found it odd. Who calls just to ask if someone's okay out of the blue?
"Of course, I'm fine. What's up?"
"We haven't seen you in class, couldn't reach you by phone. We were worried something happened to you!"
Millie, touching her barely noticeable belly, spoke calmly, "What could possibly happen?"
If anything, it was good news.
Yvette went on, "When are you coming back to class? You've missed so many, and the professors have reported it. They even called you, but you didn't answer... This isn't good, Millie. You're going to fail if this keeps up."
Millie, growing impatient, cut her off, "I know, but I've got some really important stuff I need to handle right now. can't make it to class. Can you just cover for me somehow?"
"That's not possible anymore. The teachers are using an app for attendance now. We can't help you."
Millie frowned, "Well, if you can't,
then don't bother. And here I thought
I was doing you a favor with those
expensive perfumes I gave you."
She hung up before they could respond.
Her roommates were stunned. What had changed her so much?
After hanging up, Millie dialed another number.
It was picked up quickly, the voice on the other end cold: "What do you want?"
"You..." She hesitated, biting her lip. "Can you get me those pills?"
