Love Comes To Me
Chapter 1394: Earlene is dead.

"Is something wrong?" Paulina asked worriedly as she approached him.

Mark looked at her with downcast eyes and pondered for a moment before speaking slowly, "Nothing, I'm going to the office, you go upstairs and rest, be good." With that, he turned and walked away.

Glancing behind him, Paulina's eyebrows drew together and a small worry rose in her eyes.

She didn't look well.

Had something else happened?

Marcos left the house and instead of going to the hospital, he headed for the fortress.

As soon as he arrived, Alfredo was busy reporting, "Prince, after the police examination, Earlene is indeed dead."

"Nothing out of the ordinary?" asked Marcos.

"No."

"People die in the guardhouse for no reason, the police must be investigating." Eliazar said.

Alfredo frowned and looked thoughtful, "The only way to replace out the cause of death would be an autopsy."

Marcos smiled coldly, "An autopsy? Do you think the Bartram family would approve?"

"What's the matter, Earlene died in such a strange way, there must be something wrong with her." Alfredo said with great certainty in his voice.

Eliazar sighed, "We know there is something wrong, but the charges have been dropped and we are not in a position to ask the police for a satisfactory outcome.

What's more, the police also have a headache, they want to investigate Earlene's death more than we do."

Alfred looked at Mark, only to see his sullen face, his dark eyes so deep that you couldn't tell what emotions he was feeling at the moment.

"Prince..." Alfredo called cautiously.

"As the man is dead, he is dead." Mark's voice was unperturbed, as if he were talking about something scarce.

"But the prince ..." Alfredo still felt suspicious, and if he didn't investigate, he feared there would be trouble ahead.

Marcos turned to Eliazar, "Send someone to keep an eye on all the Bartram family's movements and report to me immediately." Eliazar bowed his head, "Yes."

Alfred was relieved that the prince had his own arrangements.

...

Paulina leaned back on the bed and turned her head to look out the window, her thin brows furrowed, her light eyes full of worry. Why hadn't Marcos returned yet?

Something hadn't really happened, had it?

At that moment, the door opened from outside and an elongated figure entered.

Hearing movement, Paulina looked over and immediately sat up straighter when she saw that it was Marcos. "Marcos."

She watched as he took a step closer and then sat on the edge of the bed.

"Why aren't you asleep?" Marcos looked at her tenderly.

Paulina shook her head, "You couldn't sleep?"

"What's wrong?" asked Marcos softly as he reached up and stroked her cheek.

"Is something wrong?" Paulina looked him straight in the eyes.

Marcos chuckled softly, "I can't seem to hide anything from you."

"What exactly is wrong?" her tone was clearly urgent.

Marcos lowered his eyes and pondered for a moment, "... Earlene is dead."

"Dead ... dead?" Paulina's brow furrowed, "How can she be dead if she's in custody?"

Marcos raised his eyes, "Really dead."

His expression was serious, he didn't seem to be joking.

Paulina's eyes misted over.

As much as she hated Earlene, she couldn't help but feel the pain in her heart when she heard the news of her death. They had once been so close.

She had thought they would be best friends for life.

But it was all ruined by Earlene's own hand.

Tears slid down her face at the thought.

"Don't cry, it's not worth crying over someone like that." Mark gently wiped the tears from her cheeks with his fingertips.

Paulina sniffled, "Yeah, it's not worth it. It just makes me sad that someone so proud ended up dying in a dungeon. I really don't know whether to call her pathetic or pathetic."

She ducked her head, obviously a little depressed.

Fearing that she would get carried away with her thoughts, Mark put his arms around her and stroked her soft hair with his large palm, his soft voice echoing in her ear, "When he hurt you non-stop, I should have known it would end up like this."

Paulina pressed her face against his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat before the suffocating feeling inside her slowly dissipated.

"But we didn't want her dead."

She just wanted Earlene to serve a few years in prison, to use those years to properly repent.

But who knew the person would die.

"That's what she deserved."

Mark released her, hands on her shoulders, looking into her eyes, the corners of his mouth curving up. "Don't get carried away, pretend we never met her and there will be no more of her in this world." Paulina nodded, "Right."

...

Rawlins was about to leave the house when he received the news.

"Mr. Rawlins, your sister died last night in the number room."

The news came like a bolt of lightning and blew Rawlins' mind instantly, and he didn't even listen again to what the other man said.

Earlene was dead!

His beloved Earlene was dead!

Rawlins slowly lowered his hand from the phone and stared straight ahead with vacant eyes.

His heart, it was as if it had been gripped hard.

It ached.

It hurt so bad he could barely breathe.

"Rawlins, what are you doing standing in the doorway?"

The old woman's voice sounded behind her and Rawlins instantly recoiled as she turned around.

"Are you crying?" the old woman saw that her eyes were red.

Rawlins clenched her hands and took a deep breath to calm herself before speaking, "Grandma, I just got a call from the police ..."

Before she could finish her words, the old woman anxiously asked, "Is that Earlene what's wrong?"

Seeing the old woman's anxious look, Rawlins only felt harder inside, he was silent for a few seconds before he said, "Earlene is dead."

The old woman's eyes widened and she questioned sternly, "Rawlins, what are you talking about, how could Earlene ... be dead?"

"Grandma, the police just informed me that Earlene was found lying motionless on the floor last night, and upon checking, she was out of breath."

"My Earlene ...," the old woman cried miserably, and the man fell backwards.

"Grandma!"

Rawlins rushed over and held the person in his arms.

The old woman's eyes were closed and her face was white as paper.

"Housekeeper, call 911."

The housekeeper rushed to call 911 at the sound of the voice.

The old woman was taken to the hospital and Rawlins, after making sure she was okay, drove to J-Town.

When he saw Earlene, covered with a white cloth, he stumbled on the soles of his feet and would have fallen heavily to the ground if someone hadn't held him by his side in time. Earlene!

he shouted as he took one step at a time.

Each step was as heavy as if his legs had been filled with lead.

When he lifted the white cloth and saw Earlene's bloodless face, a stinging sadness came over him.

Tears came to his eyes.

"Earlene," he cried, unable to control his grief any longer as his trembling hand caressed Earlene's face.
