Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1402: I've got the measure of him.
After returning to J-town, the days passed quietly for a few days.
Paulina was really sweltering at home, so she made it a point to get back to work.
"Marcos, everything will be fine with you around here."
Marcos looked into her expectant eyes and the corners of his lips slowly lifted, "You want to work that badly?"
Paulina nodded vigorously.
It was true that since Earlene's death everything had gone back to normal, it was quiet, as if what had happened before was just a dream. But Marcos always felt a little uneasy.
"Marcos, with you and Alfredo and the others to protect, everything will be fine." Paulina added hastily, fearing that he would disagree.
Marcos pondered for a moment, "... Okay, I agree that you go back to the office, but you'd better stay by my side the whole time."
Paulina was too busy to respond, "No problem."
And so Paulina went back to work at Grupo Leoz, in the same position as secretary to the chairman of the board, with her office seat still in the chairman's office. So every day Alfredo would push open the door and see the couple working together.
Each time, he felt his heart was about to be pierced.
Why did they never consider his feelings as a bachelor?
Paulina heard the door open but not the footsteps coming in, and looked up just in time to catch Alfredo's sorrowful look.
She immediately dropped the papers in her hands and looked at him good-naturedly, teasing, "Alfredo, do you have something against me and the president?" "No."
Alfredo answered quickly and Paulina thought something was wrong, she narrowed her eyes, "No? I just saw the look of sorrow in your eyes."
Alfredo sighed, "I think I need to fall in love too."
Paulina burst out laughing, "So you think I'm an eyesore working here?".
"I didn't say that!" Alfredo was quick to deny it and looked at Marcos, "Prince, I didn't think so."
"Do you need me to give you a break?" asked Marcos casually.
Alfredo had been with him for many years, and had done his best to protect Paulina during the time she was missing, and indeed it had been hard on him.
But Alfredo misunderstood him and was quick to clarify his point: "Prince, I don't need it. I like to work, relationships and all that are just words."
Paulina laughed sideways.
Marcos was about to laugh too, coughed slightly to disguise his laughter, straightened his expression and asked, "What can I do for you?"
At the mention of work, Alfredo immediately returned to his professional self and reported with a serious face, "Grupo Bartram has been making a lot of moves lately, blocking Grupo Leoz's business and even secretly cutting some projects." Upon hearing "Bartram Group," Paulina's smile was instantly erased and her fine eyebrows furrowed. "What do they want, revenge?"
Alfredo turned his head to look at her, "Paulina is right, it is revenge."
Paulina frowned and said, "So the Rawlins are still blaming Marcos for Earlene's death, I thought he would be a very sensible man, I guess I was wrong."
"Once a man touches the word 'love' it is impossible to be sane." At this point, Alfredo's expression became grave: "I fear he will do even worse. President, what should we do?"
He turned his eyes back to Marcos.
Paulina also looked, curious to know what Marcos would do.
Marcos was silent for a few seconds before speaking slowly, "Ignore him for now."
"Prince!" Alfredo was surprised, "They've already started stealing the Leoz Group's business, are you really going to ignore it?"
"I have my reasons for doing so." Marcos seemed very lighthearted, showing that he really didn't care about the Bartram Group stealing business.
Since he had said that, Alfredo couldn't say anything else, so he put his head down and said, "Yes, I understand."
Only after Alfredo left did Paulina, who had remained silent, speak up, "You said you would compensate the Bartram family in other ways, so that's why you said you didn't care, right?" Marcos smiled, "You know what I'm talking about."
Paulina frowned slightly, "I do know what you think, but aren't you afraid that the Bartram Group will go further and further? In case it someday hurts the Leoz Group?"
"I have it under control." Marcos said, "I can choose to ignore anything as long as it doesn't touch the fundamentals of the Leoz Group."
Paulina sighed, "Hopefully the Rawlin will see your heart and stop at the right time too, never let hate blind you and hurt others."
...
Meanwhile, the Bartram family in Kyoto.
Since Earlene left, Grandma Bartram had been in a poor mental state, unable to eat and crying every day.
The Rawlins watched and felt pain in their hearts.
"Grandma, eat something or your body won't be able to take it." the Rawlins advised them.
Grandma Bartram turned her head and when she saw it was him, her hollow eyes more or less lit up and she grabbed his hand and asked, "Call Earlene quickly and tell her that Grandma misses her and ask her to come back and see Grandma." "Grandma, Earlene is gone," she said.
"Gone where, when will she be back?" The old woman seemed to know nothing.
Rawlins sighed, "Grandma, Earlene's dead, when are you going to face the truth?"
"Dead?" The old woman froze for a moment and then replied, "Yes, Earlene is dead, my precious granddaughter is dead."
She burst into tears again, beating her chest as she cried, "Earlene is dead, what's the point of living with my old bones?"
Rawlins grabbed her hand and her voice grew louder, "Grandma, Earlene's spirit will not be at peace with you as you are doing." "Earlene ...," the old woman cried breathlessly.
"Prince, if the old lady goes on like this, her body really won't be able to take it." The butler approached and said worriedly.
Rawlins looked at the old woman who was crying so hard she could hardly breathe, and was distressed, thought for a moment and said, "Contact R's nursing home."
The butler was a little surprised, "Are you planning to send the old lady overseas?".
"Hmm." Rawlins nodded, "Away from this dreary place, maybe she'll feel better inside."
"But will the old woman be willing?" With the affection the old woman had for the young woman, the housekeeper feared she might not want to leave here. "She has to go even if she doesn't want to." said Rawlins.
He was too worried about the Leoz Group to be distracted from Grandma's care, and the best he could do at the moment was to send her abroad to retire. It would be better for him and for Grandma.
The butler understood what he meant, nodded and said, "Then I will make the arrangements."
Two days later, the old lady, accompanied by the housekeeper, flew to R.
Rawlins watched the plane take off until it was out of sight, and slowly narrowed his eyes, revealing a glimmer of determination.
Once he had solved the Leoz Group, he would fly to R himself and bring his grandmother back.
