Love Comes To Me
Chapter 1407: Mom, I'm Sorry

At these words, Paulina was relieved, it seemed that as long as he was there, any problem could be solved.

But then she thought about it, he was running such a big company by himself, he must have encountered many such things.

Paulina's heart ached at the thought.

Marcos saw the look on Paulina's face and gave Alvaro a wink, signaling him to leave.

Alvaro nimbly withdrew and Marcos approached Paulina, put his arm around her and reassured her, "Come on, don't worry, everything is going to be fine. I agreed to have you come to the office mainly because I was worried you were home and bored to stay, not really to get you to work more, I don't like you frowning."

Paulina leaned into his arms and whispered, "I used to just think you were tired ... when I thought you worked so hard."

She paused, "But since I came to work at the company, it's only since then that I've really felt how hard and uncomfortable you are."

"The work is not really hard for me." said Marcos.

Rather, the hard work was worth it for his family.

Paulina tilted her head, her eyes rested on his crisp jaw, and said, "Marcos, I really want to share some of this for you, I don't want you to work so hard."

Marcos lowered his head and looked into her clear pupils, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his mouth, "As long as you're there for me, that's all that matters."

With that, he tightened his grip around her and continued, "So do as I say and don't worry so much."

Paulina nodded, "Okay."

Although her mouth agreed, her heart was still more or less worried.

She sighed secretly to herself, hoping that things wouldn't be too much trouble when the time came.

...

When Paulina came home from work in the evening, Sweety ran to her as soon as she entered the house on short legs.

"Mom!" the sound of her milky voice melted his heart.

He bends down to pick her up and asks her with a smile, "Why are you so happy today?"

"My teacher awarded me with a little red flower today." Sweety pointed to the little red flower attached to her chest.

Paulina matched it with a joyful expression, "Wow, our Sweety is great."

Sweety joyfully threw her arms around her neck and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

Jiang Xue kissed her gently on the cheek and then looked at Stephen, who was standing not far away.

He had his hands behind his back and immediately left her eyes when he touched her.

Paulina frowned, what was wrong with this boy, why did he feel like he had done something wrong and was afraid to look at her?

She put Sweety down on the floor and walked over to Esteban, leaning down to look at him, "Esteban, is something wrong with you?". Esteban shook his head, "Nothing."

Paulina pursed her lips and said softly, "Esteban, it's Mom, if something is wrong with you, you can tell Mom, okay?"

"I'm fine." Esteban turned his head, his dark eyes looked straight at her.

A very open gaze.

Paulina smiled faintly, "That's good."

After dinner, Paulina took Esteban and Sweety upstairs.

Esteban went back to his room and Paulina watched his small figure enter the room with a slight frown.

She didn't know if she was overly sensitive, but she sensed that Esteban was worried.

"Mommy, do you want to draw with me?"

Sweety's voice brought his thoughts back to him, and he lowered his head, his soft gaze settling on Sweety's tender little face, the corners of his mouth curling up, "Sure." Even though she was drawing with Sweety, her mind was still on Esteban.

A sigh escapes her lips and Paulina stands up.

Sweety looked at her, "Mommy, what's wrong with you?".

"Sweety be good, mommy will be back after she goes to see her brother."

Paulina stroked her little head and then left the room.

She went to the door to Esteban's room, opened it gently and cautiously walked in.

Esteban was sitting at his desk, so serious that he didn't notice her enter.

Paulina couldn't help but raise the corners of her mouth. When Esteban was serious, he was just like his dad, totally absorbed in his work, and nothing that happened around him affected them. She walked over and watched him write carefully in his workbook, and was relieved.

It was better not to disturb him.

With a twist of her toes, she intended to leave, but out of the corner of her eye she noticed his arm with the sleeves rolled up.

He had a few bruises.

Esteban's skin was so white that the bruises stood out.

Paulina walked over to him, grabbed his arm and rolled up his sleeve.

Some of the bruises were faint, old at first glance.

But there were new bruises, too.

"Mom..." Esteban looked at her in surprise.

Totally unaware of when she had walked in.

Paulina raised her eyes and looked up at him with a serious expression, "What is this?"

Esteban lowered his head and said nervously, "I fell on myself by accident."

"A fall?" Paulina's brow furrowed as she lifted the hem of her shirt and bruises, large and small, fell into her eyes.

If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, it would have been impossible to believe that a little boy could have so many bruises on his body.

Paulina's heart instantly filled with pain and anger.

"What's going on?" Paulina steeled her patience, but her tone was still uncontrollably heavy, "Don't make a fool of yourself mom, you haven't even fallen with these bruises." Esteban pursed his lips and said nothing.

Paulina reached out and touched the bruises, her heart ached with pain, unable to imagine what he had gone through.

She took a deep breath, repressing the emotions stirring inside her, and asked, "Esteban, tell Mom honestly, where did these bruises come from?"

Esteban remained silent.

His personality was just like that of his father. He kept everything to himself and bore it alone.

Esteban had some classes for him every day besides school, like painting and piano, so he couldn't have hurt himself.

Instead, there was a karate session.

The reason he was being taught karate was self-defense.

It was also the only class where there was a chance of injury.

Thinking about this, Paulina tentatively asked, "Esteban, was it during the class that you got hurt?"

"No." Esteban shook his head.

Paulina frowned, if it wasn't an injury in class, then it was a fight with another kid?

She asked and Esteban continued to shake his head, "No. It's from my own fall."

Since he was little, Esteban had never lied and would tell her anything.

But this time, he had clearly lied.

Paulina stared at him and asked once more, "Esteban, tell mom the truth, how did you get this injury? I don't think you fell by yourself."

Esteban ducked his head, "Mommy, I really did it to myself."

"Then look into mommy's eyes and say it again."

Esteban kept his head down.

He was just lying!

Paulina got angry, took a deep breath and said in a stern tone, "Esteban, Mommy has told you since you were a little girl that children should not lie and tell the truth, have you forgotten?" Esteban clenched his hands and remained silent.

Looking at his stubborn face, Paulina suddenly felt a little helpless, feeling that she was a bit of a failure as a mother, that her son was lying to her.

She sighed, "Forget it, if you don't want to talk about it, mom doesn't want to know either."

With that said, she turned and walked out.

Esteban raised his head and looked at the closed door, his eyes were red and he said softly, "Mommy, I'm sorry."
