Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 188: What brings you here
"You have to watch your time even if you're busy, don't spoil your health, you haven't eaten yet, have you?" Egbert Chumley's concerned enquiry continued from across the room. "Well... I got it Egbert, thank you, I'll finish this up and leave right away."
Hanging up the phone, Eloise Thompson stepped up the pace to sort out any problems that had arisen with the planning.
It was almost eleven o'clock when Eloise Thompson packed up her things and prepared to go home. Probably because she had a busy day and hadn't had dinner at this hour, Eloise Thompson couldn't help but feel a little light-headed and a little uncomfortable throughout.
When he came downstairs, a black-faced car was parked outside the door, and a man in a black suit leaned against it, his back to him in the dim light, and Eloise Thompson could not see his face clearly.
For a moment, Eloise Thompson thought it was Hector Rogers because he was about the same size.
On approaching, Eloise Thompson realised it was Egbert Chumley.
Somehow, a feeling of loss came over Eloise Thompson, and she couldn't help but blame herself for not being able to let go of that man.
Egbert Chumley didn't notice that Eloise Thompson was out of sorts, he pursed his lips and said, "It's almost eleven o'clock, you can't be this busy with work, you don't know how to take care of your body, I brought you some food, eat it first!" After counting Eloise Thompson out, Egbert Chumley then handed over the food.
Eloise Thompson smiled, "Thanks Egbert, but you didn't have to come all the way over here, I'll be back to eat as soon as I'm done here."
It was late and Egbert Chumley had come to bring her food. He had been so kind to her, but she could not give the man anything in return, and Eloise Thompson was quite burdened.
Egbert Chumley knew what she was thinking, so he spoke up, "Not specifically, I was just on my way home, and knowing that a workaholic like you wouldn't leave the office that early, I brought some food."
In fact, Egbert Chumley was just looking for an excuse to be nice to her and see her, and when he saw Eloise Thompson's slightly tired face, Egbert Chumley couldn't help but feel a little distressed. Eloise Thompson nodded and said thank you again.
The two of them found a place to sit down on the street and started eating.
Egbert Chumley had already eaten, so sat on the sidelines watching Eloise Thompson.
"It's only been a few days, look how thin you are, are you busy working until this time of day to eat?"
Eloise Thompson couldn't help but smile, thinking that Egbert was exaggerating a bit, and how he was concealed.
"Egbert, I've just been a bit busy with work, but I've been eating on time, I just got so busy tonight I forgot."
Egbert Chumley did not believe it, after all, he knew Eloise Thompson's character, this silly girl is still the same as before, Egbert Chumley remembered that before every school exams Eloise Thompson also forgot to study, at that time it was Egbert Chumley who often brought her Egbert Chumley used to bring her food, but now that she's working, she doesn't know how to take care of her body.
Eloise Thompson was a little embarrassed, in fact she was forgetting to eat a lot these days and her stomach had long been upset by now after a busy day.
This would be a sip of hot soup in and instead of getting relief, it would be a little harder.
Fearing that Egbert Chumley was worried, Eloise Thompson took a few bites anyway, so as not to be seen to be doing something, before putting it away. "Egbert, I'll take it back and eat it!"
Egbert Chumley saw that Eloise Thompson was really tired and had to take her home.
Once the car arrived at the bottom of the block and got out, Eloise Thompson spoke up, "Thanks Egbert, it was a real pain in the arse tonight."
"No need to be so polite with me, well get back to your rest!" Egbert Chumley spoke with a smile on his face.
"Hmm." Eloise Thompson nodded and headed upstairs.
Standing still and watching her back, Egbert Chumley couldn't help but sigh, he wanted to be nice to Eloise Thompson but was worried that she would run away from him and end up not even being friends anymore... When she arrived home, Eloise Thompson's stomach churned even more and she turned a little pale as she ambled to the bathroom and threw up everything she had just eaten.
Eloise Thompson frowned slightly, the whole thing was so uncomfortable that she didn't even want to eat, grabbed her pyjamas and headed for the bathroom.
When she came out, Eloise Thompson poured a glass of water, took a few stomach pills and, with her hair still dry, she nestled on the sofa and drifted off to sleep.
Still having some difficulty with her stomach, Eloise Thompson covered her stomach and thought she would be fine after a good night's sleep, but who knows, by midnight, Eloise Thompson was awakened by the pain.
It was as if a knife was cutting into her stomach, and the pain was so intense that Eloise Thompson broke out in a cold sweat, and if the lights were on now, you could see that she was very pale.
The pain caused Eloise Thompson's entire body to reel backwards and fumble with her phone in a daze, trying to call Linn Dail to come and take her to the hospital.
When the call was answered, Eloise Thompson spoke through the pain, "Linn Dail, excuse me! Could you please come and take me to the hospital?"
She didn't want to bother anyone else in the middle of the night, but at this point Eloise Thompson was really struggling to get through.
...
Rogers family, Hector Rogers had just come downstairs for a drink of water from his study when the phone suddenly rang and his eyebrows jumped when he saw the caller ID.
It was the first time in days that Eloise Thompson had offered to call him, and Hector Rogers was naturally happy to pick up the phone after a pause.
Before she could speak, Eloise Thompson's voice, suppressed with pain, was heard on the other end of the line.
Hector Rogers frowned slightly and was about to ask a question when the woman's frail voice came again on the other end.
"My stomach hurts.... Please."
Then there was no sound from across the room.
Hector Rogers heard that Eloise Thompson was not feeling well and hurriedly grabbed the car keys and headed out.
All along the way, Hector Rogers' face was hard to read, his brow furrowed in anxiety.
It would normally have taken an hour for the Rogers family to get to Eloise Thompson's neighbourhood, but in half an hour Hector Rogers was there, having run an unknown number of red lights along the way.
After hanging up the phone, Eloise Thompson didn't know whether she had passed out from the pain or what was going on, and drifted back to sleep, but the pain in her stomach was so bad that she curled up on the sofa, shivering a little. Eloise Thompson was oblivious to the fact that she had called the wrong number when the doorbell rang and she turned the light on, dragging her frail body to the door.
"Linn Dail, sorry it's so late..."
No sooner had Eloise Thompson finished her sentence than she saw Hector Rogers standing in the doorway, dressed in a suit and looking a little anxious, as if he had come in a hurry, not having seen him for a few days, and looking at his silhouette Eloise Thompson was in a trance for a moment, wondering if she was hallucinating from the pain.
Realising that it was really Hector Rogers, Eloise Thompson's eyes flashed with shock before she asked, "What are you doing here?"
"You called me." Hector Rogers pursed his lips and spoke.
