Chapter 16: Watching Her Grow Up

Serena didn’t reply, but Nina was extremely happy and said, “Mr. Stewart knows our Lawyer Woodsen?”

“I watched Lawyer Woodsen grow up. I used to work under her father, but I haven’t seen her for many years since her father passed away,” Mr. Stewart replied.

“You guys are so destined. Serena, you should raise a glass to Mr. Stewart,” Nina said happily, seemingly forgetting that Serena doesn’t drink.

Upon hearing that they had such a connection, the people present expressed surprise and began urging her to raise a glass to Mr. Stewart.

Memories surfaced, and Serena’s heart was shaken, but after all, it was a work occasion, so she endured her discomfort and gracefully raised her glass, saying, “Mr. Stewart, sorry for troubling you these past few days. This drink is for you.”

The spicy drink burned her throat and stomach, but Mr. Stewart only took a small sip and said, “Serena inherited her father’s good drinking capacity. But we don’t need to be so polite. Since you’re back in Boston, come visit my home when you have time.”

The dinner was relatively civilized, with no real drinking games, and the men presented chatted politely without any vulgar jokes before dispersing.

The restaurant wasn’t far from the hotel where they were staying, and Serena wanted to take a walk, so she let Nina go back first. After drinking a glass of alcohol, her stomach was in turmoil, so she found a garbage can and vomited for a while before feeling better and returning to the hotel.

However, as soon as she saw Emma, she was scolded from the start.

“Did I not tell you not to drink at the dinner? Especially since we’re lawyers, we need to stay sober at all times.”

Nina spoke up for her, not realising that she had been the one to urge Serena to drink.

“Serena didn’t mean to. It just happened that she ran into an acquaintance at dinner and couldn’t avoid it.”

“Don’t make excuses for her. If she doesn’t even have the courage to refuse alcohol, how will she reject other unreasonable demands in the future?”

Emma was the epitome of a strong woman. She conquered clients with her professional skills and rarely engaged in social activities. She disapproved of her subordinates relying on socialising to secure deals. Although she may be somewhat idealistic, her achievements spoke for themselves, as she completed project after project with her excellent work ability.

Because the Boston Food Company project was relatively simple, they collected all the relevant information faster than expected. All they

needed to do was go back and perfect the report, so they could go back to New York early. However, Emma did not rush them back. Instead, she gave them a day of free time as a vacation.

Boston had many famous attractions that were worth visiting. Nina stayed up late the night before to finish the report, but the next day she was full of energy and went to ious attractions to take pictures.

Serena was a native of Boston and was not interested in these tourist attractions. Moreover, during a business trip, how could there be real free time?

Emma disappeared early on, and her bringing them to Boston was not for the purpose of the Boston Food Company acquisition issue. Boston Food Company was not even in her sight, and she had a different agenda. Thinking about the information she had recently researched, she was probably preparing for Future Better Technology Company’s affairs, but the Hands–free Intelligent Technology Company that Future Better Technology Company was trying to acquire was not in Boston.

Serena could not figure out Emma’s thoughts until she saw a poster in the hotel lobby: “Boston Youth Robot Competition,” sponsored by Future Better Technology Company. Future Better Technology Company sponsors two robot competitions each year, one is the NY College Student Robot Competition in the spring, and the other is the Boston Youth Competition in the fall. For the top three places in the competition, Future Better Technology Company provides special training. Regarding sponsorship, the media interviewed Eric Crawford. the company’s technical director. Eric’s speech was very official and lofty, saying that the company wanted to cultivate young people’s interests and allowed capable and interested college students to realise their dreams. This was the official answer, but in reality, it was an

important step in Future Better Technology Company’s talent strategy. They screened out seed players through the competition, provided special training, sent them abroad for further studies, and recruited a large number of potential and excellent researchers.
