Love’s Little Miracles By Chloe Wallis -
Chapter 17
Chapter 17
Finally, dawn had arrived.
The news of a snake sneaking into Tanglevine Residence in the middle of the night had spread quickly.
Susan brought several housekeepers to the scene to watch. The group felt goosebumps rising on their skin upon seeing that
massive venomous snake.
“Oh my gosh! Where did it come from?”
“We’ll die in no time if this snake bit us, right?”
“Luckily, Ms. Lewis was there to rescue the day by killing the snake. Otherwise, I can’t imagine the consequences if it attacks people!”
While the onlookers were chattering about the snake, Caroline declared publicly after secretly observing their expressions, “Ill hang this snake under the corridor outside Tanglevine Residence later. If Mrs. Ziegler comes later, we’ll have to make her see the corpse. I’m sure she will launch an investigation and replace out the culprit who let the snake in swiftly.”
With that, she quickly hung the snake outside Tanglevine Residence. In addition, she told everyone not to touch the snake lest they accidentally get the venom on its body.
After getting everything ready for her plan, Caroline went to prepare breakfast for Quintin and Leon and helped them with
their meal.
When breakfast was over, the Ziegler family members who heard the news came one after another to visit Quintin.
The first person to come was Quintin’s stepmother, Carmen, and her daughter, Roxanne Ziegler.
Carmen saw Susan the moment she arrived at Tanglevine Residence. “What’s going on? I heard Quintin was bitten by a snake. Is he all right?” she asked, pretending to be concerned.
“Luckily, Mr. Ziegler is fine. It was Ms. Lewis who killed the snake,” Susan explained.
“Where is the snake?” Roxanne probed.
“Over there!”
Roxanne’s gaze followed the direction Susan had pointed. Upon seeing the terrifying serpent, she immediately hid behind her mother. “Jesus! It’s so terrifying! Why is it hanging up there?”
“Why didn’t you ask someone to get rid of such a disgusting and horrifying thing? What’s the point of hanging it there?” Carmen winced as she was petrified.
“Ms. Lewis said that she wants Mrs. Ziegler to come over and see the snake for herself. That way, Mrs. Ziegler will surely ask someone to figure out the culprit behind the incident.”
Upon hearing Susan’s explanation, Carmen and Roxanne exchanged glances wordlessly. Then, they entered the residence before heading upstairs to see Quintin.
When they came in, Caroline was feeding the man breakfast.
“Is Quintin alright?”
Hearing Carmen’s voice, Caroline turned around and glimpsed the duo. She saw an exquisitely dressed girl standing next to Carmen and could guess the latter’s identity.
It was likely Quintin’s younger half–sister, Roxanne.
“He’s fine. Ms. Carmen, why are you guys here?”
“I heard that a venomous snake sneaked into Tanglevine Residence last night. So, I came over to check on Quintin. Good to know that he’s doing fine!”
Caroline did not respond as a thought flashed through her mind. “She’d make quite a good mother!”
She had taunted Carmen when the latter came over with Savannah yesterday. However, Carmen acted as if nothing happened today like an elegant lady who was always righteous and sober–minded. “It seems like this woman is incomparably patient. No wonder she can make her way up to the top from being a mistress! Her tolerance is truly outstanding.” Caroline pondered.
Standing on the side, Roxanne quietly observed Caroline. She could not help but feel a little jealous upon seeing the latter’s beautiful face.
How lucky is Quintin to get such a stunning woman from an arranged marriage?” she mused.
“Theard that Ms. Lewis has already signed the agreement. When Quintin recovers, you will leave the Ziegler family, right?”
As soon as Carmen learned of the news, she came over specifically to ask. She had nothing to worry about if Caroline were only staying temporarily.
Chapter 17
“Ms. Carmen, are you in such a hurry for me to leave?”
Caroline saw through the mind of that woman standing in front at first glance. She knew Carmen wished that she would leave the Zieglers sooner.
“Why would I? It was just a misunderstanding yesterday. Please don’t take it to heart, Ms. Lewis!” Carmen said with feigned generosity.
“I’m not as petty as you think. Since I’m married into this family, I have to do my due diligence. Whoever tries to harm my man will have to answer me first!” Caroline made her position and determination clear before the outsiders.
Upon hearing her bold declaration, Quintin felt his cold heart had been hit suddenly and trembled.
“Your man? I can’t believe she dares to utter such shameless words in public!” he exclaimed inwardly.
Nevertheless, it was the first time that he felt loved, and it was a peculiar feeling for him.
“What do you mean by your man? It’s merely a temporary arranged marriage, not a real one. Quintin and Savannah are the ones who should be together,” Roxanne blurted out, feeling displeased.
Caroline understood that the public had no clue that she and Quintin had registered their marriage. Hence, she did not bother to explain anything.
Upon hearing Roxanne’s remark, Quintin was overwhelmed with rage. He raised his arm and knocked over the bowl in Caroline’s hand, causing it to fall to the floor with an ear piercing shattering sound.
“Ahh!”
Roxanne was startled and subconsciously hugged her head in her arms.
Caroline knew that it was Roxanne’s comment that had provoked Quintin.
“Oh, no! Quintin is having another manic episode. You guys better leave quickly!” She found an ‘excuse to drive them away.
Carmen fled in a hurry along with her daughter.
When they were left alone, Caroline walked over to pick up the bowl on the floor and said sarcastically, “That stepmother of yours is so kind to you. She truly treats you like her biological son. Moreover, she always brings a group of people to visit you.”
“Shut up!” Quintin roared.
“How rude! Don’t tell me that you have a manic episode for real?”
She wanted to wipe his mouth clean, but the man swatted her hand away. Before any more words could be said, someone knocked on the door.
Susan opened the door and informed, “Dr. Cook has arrived. Mr. Ziegler, Ms. Lewis, should I let him enter?”
“Yes! Quickly! Get him here!”
“Well, the doctor is just in time to cure this bastard’s mania!” Caroline cheered inwardly.
Not long after, the door of the room was opened again. Edward, who was knocked unconscious by Quintin yesterday, immediately saw the latter, who was having a manic episode.
However, Edward was not there by himself. The man accompanying him was none other than Benjamin Ziegler, Quintin’s cousin from his second uncle. Furthermore, he was the biological father of those two little chubby kids.
Seeing that Quintin had gone mad, Benjamin hastened over and grabbed the former’s arm. “Quintin, are you okay? Dr. Cook is here. Please let him check on you!”
“Please calm down, Mr. Ziegler!” Edward quickly came over to check the man’s condition.
As Benjamin spoke, he was also sizing up Caroline at the same time. He had heard about the bullying incident involving his two children yesterday. It was Caroline who caused his mother and wife to be punished by Catherine.
Benjamin wondered what else she could do.
Quintin was still panting heavily after his manic episode subsided. “Quintin, calm down. Just focus on your recuperation. I’m taking care of the company. So, you don’t have to worry about anything,” reassured Benjamin.
While Edward was not checking on Quintin, Benjamin turned his dark gaze toward Caroline. “Ms. Lewis, may I have a word with you while Dr. Cook treats Quintin?”
“Oh. Sure.”
Guessing that he might want to ask about the children, the woman followed him out of the room.
In the meantime, not knowing what Benjamin wanted to say to Caroline, Quintin strained his cars to eavesdrop on their conversation.
Chapter 17
When the duo was in the corridor, Benjamin turned around before staring at Caroline’s beautiful face. He scrutinized her boldly.
“Ms. Lewis, why is an outstanding woman like you willing to marry Quintin?”
What Benjamin meant between the words was that no woman in their right mind would get married to a living dead man.
The door to the room was not closed properly. Thus, Quintin heard Benjamin’s provoking question crystal clear. Still, he was curious to know her answer.
“Why is she willing to help a dying man through marriage? Even Yvonne refused to marry me. So, why is Caroline willing to do so?” he mused.
