Chapter 76

Caroline pulled her hand back and stuffed her son’s hand into his. “This is your son’s hand.”

“Oh!”

Quintin held onto his son’s small hand, feeling the overwhelming sense of having something precious restored to him.

If anything happened to his son, he would definitely blame himself to death.

If he could not even protect his only son, how could he be considered a good father?

If Macy came back, how would he explain it to her?

After a while. Quintin said. “Thank you for saving Leo tonight.”

For the first time, he spoke words of heartfelt gratitude to her.

He thanked her for discovering the fire tonight and for promptly saving his son.

“There’s nothing.”

Indeed, it was her own son that she had saved. It was only natural for a mother to rescue her own child.

“By the way, how did you discover the fire?”

The Tanglevine Residence was located quite far away from where Catherine lived, almost diagonally opposite the entire Ziegler residence.

“You prevented me from having contact with Leo, but I heard that Mrs. Ziegler is hospitalized, and both Jennifer and Michael are also at the hospital.

“I was a little worried that there was no one to take care of the child, so I went to take a look. I didn’t expect there to be a fire.”

In other words, wasn’t she blaming him for preventing her from interacting with the child?

Caroline’s voice was trembling. She was still terrified when she thought of the fire.

Thinking about it now, Quintin could feel Caroline’s responsibility towards the child. Perhaps he was too narrow–minded and should not have restricted her contact with the child.

“Forget it. When Leo is discharged, I’ll let him be with you!”

“What? Are you telling the truth?”

“Absolutely.”

At least before his eyes regained their light and his legs recovered, his son needed someone to protect him. Caroline couldn’t be more suitable for that role.

“I got it.”

The fire incident granted Caroline the opportunity to regain custody of her child, which could be considered a significant gain for her.

Neither of them spoke again. It was rare for them to have such a harmonious time together. They were only thinking about

their child.

Not long after, Flynn knocked on the door and entered. “Mr. Ziegler, Michael and others received the news and wanted to come over to see the child.”

“Let them in!” Caroline helped answer.

Soon, Michael and Jennifer came in together.

Jennifer looked at her nephew on the bed and asked with concern, “What’s going on? I heard that there’s a fire at home?” Michael followed her in and said, “I just received a call from the Ziegler residence to replace out what happened. Mr. Ziegler. Mrs. Ziegler, how’s the child?”

“Leo is fine now,” Quintin replied. “Don’t tell my grandmother about this for the time being.”

“Understood. I didn’t dare to tell her.”

“Michael, go back first. I still need you to settle the family matters! Also, call the police and let them investigate the cause of the fire!” Quintin instructed.

“Alright, I’ll go back first.”

Michael left the ward first.

Jennifer glanced at the child and then at her younger brother, Quintin. She thought about her grandmother and let out a

Chapter 76 sigh.

“What is happening to our Ziegler family?” Jennifer exclaimed in frustration. “Everyone seems to be facing issues one after another! It’s like a curse! Who knows who will be next?”

Jennifer, hurry back to Grandma’s place and take good care of her. We’re here, so don’t worry.”

“Okay.”

In this troubled period now, everyone was at risk of encountering trouble, so Quintin must consider deploying additional personnel to protect his family.

Flynn was only a companion who had accompanied him since he was young, so his abilities were limited. He had already notified the Mysterious Domain to dispatch their capable elites to Jipsdale to help him replace the mole.

Jennifer also left the ward. The ward fell silent. Quintin asked again, “Why don’t you go back and rest? Flynn and I will watch over this place!”

“No need! I’m fine. Why don’t you go back first?” Caroline noticed his awkward expression. “Did you come in a hurry and didn’t even bother to put on your shoes?”

Quintin was still barefooted. He was so embarrassed by her words that he did not even have a place to put his toes.

Originally, he planned to go back and change his clothes and shoes before coming back. However, just as he turned the wheelchair, he heard footsteps outside.

Soon, a clear male voice sounded. “Caroline!”

Quintin’s expression froze. He immediately recognized John’s voice.

Why was John here?

Before, he joined for dinner and singing, and now he followed Caroline to the hospital. He really was persistent!

“John, are you done with your work?”

“Yeah, I brought you a drink. Vivian said you used to like mango juice.”

“Caroline used to like mango juice?” Quintin thought.

Quintin couldn’t see anything but could hear the two of them talking. He could feel John walking over and handing her a drink.

“Thank you!” Caroline thanked him.

Only then did John notice the man beside him. He was a little surprised. “Is this Mr. Ziegler? I didn’t even dare to recognize it! I’m sorry, I didn’t know Mr. Ziegler was here. I bought one less.”

“No need. I don’t drink.”

Quintin said coldly. He could imagine that John must have been laughing at him when John saw him like this.

He couldn’t see, anyway.

Caroline asked, “Why aren’t you going back?”

She was chasing him away at this time?

They wanted to have a date and talk alone in the ward?

Dream on!

He just wouldn’t leave.

“It’s too troublesome to go back. I’ll get Flynn to deliver it for me.”

Quintin called Flynn in. After giving him some instructions, Flynn went back to help him get his clothes and shoes.

Then, Johny and Caroline started chatting.

“By the way, Caroline, let me tell you something funny. A few hours ago, Mr. Gomez was sent to our hospital for emergency treatment. Guess what happened?”

“What?” Caroline asked casually.

“Someone dared to stab him with a bottle at Sphinx, causing such a miserable condition. It’s even worse than grade–ten hemorrhoid. I’ve been practicing medicine for so many years, and this is the first time I’ve seen such a situation.

“I guess that he is in for a tough time. Tomorrow, his situation will surely make the headlines!” John didn’t want to laugh, but he really couldn’t hold it in. Caroline only said, “He deserves it!” When Quintin heard what they were talking about, he thought of what he had seen at Sphinx that night.

He finally understood. The person who stabbed Seth must be Caroline.

In other words, Caroline and Seth went to the private room not because they had rekindled their old feelings but because she had taught the scumbag a lesson?

Thinking of this, Quintin realized that he had misunderstood Caroline. She was not the woman he thought she was.

Listening to their conversation, Quintin did not interrupt. He only coughed from time to time to remind them of his

existence.

It also reminded Caroline not to ignore him.

Seeing that it was already very late, Caroline said, “Thank you for the drink. John, you can go back first! I can take care of this place myself.”

“Alright, I’ll go back first. I still have an important surgery tomorrow.”

“Okay, see you later.”

After John left, Caroline stopped talking. It became silent again.

“You have a good relationship with John? You’re classmates with his sister?”

Quintin tried to replace something to talk about, wanting to break the stiff and cold atmosphere between the two of them.

“Yeah.”

Caroline only hummed softly, and there was silence again.

Quintin was very depressed. Why was she so engrossed in chatting with John that she kept quiet in front of him?

After a while, Quintin broke the silence again. “Did you stab Seth?”

Caroline was shocked. “How did you know?”

“Is there anything I don’t know? I can’t see, but I’m not deaf,” Quintin said.

With her sharp mind. Caroline carefully pondered the situation and quickly connected the dots, understanding the cause.

“Could it be that you’re the one who got Mr. Jakeman at Sphinx to stand up for me? Did you go to Sphinx?”

Indeed, she did have a sharp mind. As she guessed it right, Quintin naturally couldn’t admit that he had followed her.

“Yes, I was passing by.”

Caroline nodded gently. “Very well, at least you did something properly for once.”

“Hey, what do you mean? Are you mocking me?”

Quintin felt a slight sense of dissatisfaction. He had helped her, yet she still spoke to him in such a way. Did she consider his previous actions inhumane?

“I’m complimenting you. Can’t you tell?”

The two of them chatted until Flynn brought over clothes and shoes and helped Quintin change into them.

Quintin also learned from Flynn that Sean had sent a video over. The content was Caroline teaching Seth a lesson.

Previously, he had indeed thought too much!

He had been angry for nothing!

After returning to the ward. Quintin said to Caroline, “I’ll watch over here. Let Flynn send you back to rest!”

“No need. I’ll just rest here for a while.”

Mayson wasn’t awake yet. Caroline definitely wouldn’t leave.

Quintin still needed to take care of himself. How could he take care of the child?

Hearing that she refused to leave, Quintin frowned and could not help but ask, “Caroline, why are you so good to my son?”

He really wanted to know what she was after if they were not related by blood.
