The fact that Eden added me, and so late at night…

My intuition told me that something was wrong.

Even though Derick had assured me that Eden wouldn’t dare do anything in his presence, I still hadto be cautious.

Besides, a woman accepting a man’s friend request always seemed a bit frivolous, especially atmidnight.

I acted as if I hadn’t seen the friend request and continued chatting with Lisa. She responded, “Thesuccessful surgery he did before was performed with his partner.”

I could clearly sense the melancholy in Lisa’s voice.

Having experienced love myself, I understood how important it was for partners to be in sync andwell–matched. Although Lisa was excellent in her field, there was still a difference when comparedto someone with international acclaim like Keith.

There was a reason for the disparity between them.

I didn’t continue on this topic with Lisa. After chatting about other things, I

ended the call and stared at Eden’s friend request for a while.

I felt that he was a dangerous person. But to uncover the truth behind my

dad’s death, I had no choice but to take this risk.

As I was about to put my phone down, another message came in from Chris. “Stay away fromEden!”

His tone was strikingly similar to Brandon’s.

N knew he was concerned, but his concern no longer held much weight for

I had to admit that the whiskey I drank at the barbecue stall near the

neighborhood gate when I got back had quite a kick. Even Brandon’s tea couldn’t help, and I was sotired that I went to bed without even taking a shower.

The next morning, I woke up early, practiced some yoga, and made a cup of coffee beforeaccepting Eden’s friend request.

At this time, he was likely still asleep. Hence, I didn’t have to worry about receiving a message fromhim right away.

When I arrived at the Hueton Corporation, Xander was already there. He gave me a strange look,but he didn’t say anything.

I hadn’t been in for a few days, so there was a backlog of tasks. I worked until noon to geteverything sorted out.

When I stood up, stretching and preparing to head to the cafeteria for lunch, Xander knocked on mydoor. “Ms. Crown, would you like to have lunch together?”

It was obvious he had an agenda, as his gaze was anything but straightforward.

I smiled lightly. “Sure.”

Xander looked at the food on my plate and said, “Why are you eating so little? Are you on a diet?Your figure is just right as it is. You shouldn’t lose any more weight. Women who are too thin don’tlook good.”

Despite being the Hueton Corporation’s boss and being quite authoritative with others, he seemedto be trying to please me. It was almost as if he was afraid of upsetting me.

Looking at the food on my plate, I thought of Brandon’s cooking and admitted, “I’m not on a diet. Mytaste buds have been spoiled.”

“What?” Xander looked momentarily puzzled. Then, he seemed to recall something and nodded inunderstanding. “Oh, I see.”

He must think that I grew up at the Gildon estate and have become spoiled by their food.

Little did he know, it was Brandon who had spoiled me.

Thinking about how Brandon mentioned he would cook something

delicious tonight made me look forward to the evening. I didn’t even feel like eating the food in frontof me.

“How about I take you out for a nice meal?” Xander suddenly suggested.

Such enthusiasm…

“No, no. That’s not necessary,” I quickly declined, picking up a bite of food.

“Ms. Crown, if I may ask, is that gentleman you were with yesterday really your boyfriend?”Xander’s question made it clear why he had been giving me strange looks since he saw me today.

I recalled Brandon’s assessment of him and couldn’t help but smile faintly. “What did you think ofhim?”

“He seems okay, but he doesn’t strike me as the kind of person who would giye someone a senseof security,” Xander answered, not as bluntly as Brandon.

I took a sip of my soup, and Xander continued, “A delicate and beautiful girl like you should be witha tougher man.”
