Married By Mistake
Chapter 25

LUNA

“Eat it, Sky. To make you stronger.” I placed the tray of food on the table next to Sky’s bed.

He thanked me before picking up the tray. “Have you called Dylan yet?”

“He doesn’t answer the phone at home and his cellphone is also dead,” I said sadly. I sat in the chair next to his bed. I watched him as he eats the lunch I prepared for him.

Sky and I have clarified. I will never be able to leave Dylan. I love him so much.

I’ve been here in California for two weeks. There was a storm here in California so almost all flights were cancelled. the flood is subsiding just now so it’s only now that I’ve been able to book my flight back to the Philippines. I can’t stay here much longer without seeing Dylan. The longer I stay here, the heavier I feel.

I woke up in deep thought when Skyler held my hand. He squeezed my hand slightly.

“This will be the last time. I won’t bother you anymore. I’ll let you go. Maybe you’re not really for me. It hurts but, I can’t do anything.” Skyler’s eyes spoke.

I kissed the back of his palm. “I’m sorry for not loving you back, Sky. But you’re so special to me.”

“I know.” He smiled sparingly. “I’ve regained my strength so go home. Get some rest. I know you’re too tired to take care of me.”

“Sky, I’m sorry.”

“Why are you apologizing? I understand, Luna. We can’t insist on everything. We all have these crazy things that we can and can’t do. You don’t love me and you never did.” I noticed the redness in Skyler’s eyes. He averted his gaze. “Go back now. Go back to your husband, Luna.”

I hugged him tightly. I kept staring at his opera. He reciprocated with a hug. I felt the trembling of his hand.

“Sky, thank you. Someday, someone will take your pain away and treat you like you’re her whole world.”

I went home to the hotel where I was staying and packed my things. My flight home to the Philippines is tomorrow at noon. I sat up in my bed and called her cell phone again. At these times, I knew Dylan was at home.

It only rang a few times and someone answered. “Hello, Luna?”

“C-Camille?”

“Ah, shit. Come on, Dylan!” I heard Camille say. “Ah, hello, Luna. Oh, your husband. He is very drunk. Where are you?”

“I-I’m in California. I went to Sky—”

“That’s why e. Go home. I’ve been to the precinct a few times because your husband is always involved in trouble.”

I took a deep breath to calm myself. Why is he with Camille? “I’m already booking a flight home tomorrow.”

“Luna ..” I heard Dylan’s voice on the other line.

“Oh f**k! Eew!” I heard Camille scream.

“Camille, what’s going on with him?” I said in a panicked voice.

“He kicked me. Eew! Go home, please! Even Papa is annoyed with Dylan because he’s always late for meetings.”

“Yes, my flight is tomorrow. Camille, please don—”

“No way. I won’t have s*x with this hideous man of yours. That’s to cliche. I’m just helping this idiot, who is so mad at you, to fix his life.” He cuts to what I have to say.

I felt relieved when Camille said that. “I trust you, Cammy. Thank you. I’ll explain when I get home.”

“You better be.”

I cut off the call and started packing my things. I made sure I forgot nothing. The next day I went to the airport early. I don’t want to be late for my trip. I would love to see Dylan.

I could not rest in my seat because I was so excited that this plane landed on Philippine soil.

It was late at night when the plane landed and I immediately called a taxi to get to Dylan and me’s house. I paid him immediately when we reached the gate of our house.

I turned the key inserted in the doorknob and you immediately opened it. I slowly went inside.

“Dylan?” I call him.

“Come back.” I glanced at the kitchen door. He was leaning against the door jamb while holding a bottle of beer.

I no longer hesitated to run to him and hug him tightly.

He violently removed my hands. “You have no right to hug me after you go to your man.”

I was devastated to see the anger in his eyes. “Dylan, don’t you still understand that I only did that because I was worried about Skyler.”

“Who needs an explanation from a slut like you?”

I was hurt by the word he used. Will he stand for my return from the beginning? “Dylan, please, don’t say that.”

He released me and pushed me violently. I would have almost sat down if I hadn’t just held on to the cabinet. His expression was cold. I could read nothing in his eyes. The corner of my eye heats up.

“Dylan, don’t be like this.”

“This is the consequence of your choice, Luna.”

My breathing quickened until my chest tightened. I knelt on the floor because I couldn’t breathe easily. Until my eyes rotated and all I saw was darkness.

I m****d when the light hit my eye. I slowly looked up and saw the white ceiling. I immediately felt dizzy so I didn’t get up first.

I turned around and saw Dylan slumped on the side of my bed. I stroked his hair. “Dylan.”

He sighed and raised his head. He was shocked to see that I was awake and held my hand tightly.

“Thank God, you’re alright.” I smiled as he kissed the back of my palm.

“What happened?”

“You have asthma. I thought I’m going to lose you.”

I arranged the hair to cover his eyes. I noticed eyebags under its eyes. “I’m not going anywhere anymore, Dylan.”

“Damn it, woman, you scared the f*****g hell out of me.” He snapped. He took something from the side of my headboard and spoke there. “My wife is awake. Call a doctor immediately.”

Moments later there was a knock on my bedroom door and Dylan opened it.

“Good morning, Mrs Reyes.” The doctor greeted me.

I just smiled at him. Dylan sat in the chair next to me. We looked at the doctor as he read my health results.

He adjusted the mirror and looked at us. “The results are fine. You’re just so tired that you have an asthma attack. All you need is rest.”

Dylan and I breathed a sigh of relief.

“But, that’s not the end of the result we got from you, Mrs Reyes.” I was devastated by what the doctor said. “Do you feel nauseous and vomiting?”

I thought the past few days what had happened to me. “Ahm, I get dizzy often but I haven’t vomited yet.”

“Okay.” The doctor stuffed his hand in the pocket of his lab coat.

“What does that mean?” Dylan replied. His forehead is furrowed.

“Congratulations, Mister Reyes. Your wife is pregnant. You should consult your gynaecologist, Misis, for further observations.” The doctor said smiling.

I inhaled and my hand automatically went to my stomach. I felt strange energy when Dylan and I were probably already in my womb.

The doctor left after he said that. He said he wanted to give us privacy. I looked at Dylan because I wanted to see his reaction. The beautiful smile melted in me when I saw the anger and hatred in his eyes.

“D ..” I whispered.

He stood up and combed his hand through his hair. “Is it mine?”

“Huh?” I was surprised at what it said. “Of course it is yours.”

He does not spill. The words he uttered seemed to come to me. “Dylan, do you look down on me like that? I can’t believe you.”

“You said, you were only there for a while. But it took you two weeks to go home. So how can I be sure that’s mine.”

“Let’s call the Gynecologist and I’ll prove to you that I’m not as dirty as you think, Dylan.” I took a deep breath to calm myself. “I didn’t think you could accuse me of that while I made you feel how much I love you.”
