Chapter 16

Aurora’s Pov:

The two men dressed in black shirts and pants accused eyes rested on me, and the coldness from them sent my blood racing. Search me? What did I do for the security men to want to search me?

I looked confusedly at them. Not quite understanding the scenario before me.

“I think there’s some misquote here,” Malena jumped in to defend me. “Why would What’s the deal here?”

you search her?

“We got information that she took something valuable from one of the shelves and hid it in her pockets.” One of the security men flew his gaze at my brown pocketed short gown.

Malena chuckled. A hysterical disbelieving chuckle. “What are you two talking about? What are you on to about? She took something valuable from here? She has been by my side throughout this whole time so how could she have taken something without my knowledge?”

“Ma’am, you must have forgotten there’s CCTV cameras everywhere which monitors every movement, sneeze and fall.” The second security officer with short blonde hair narrowed his eyes. up to the almost high ceilings. I followed the direction of his eyes and saw tiny black dots mounted up there. There were five up there, in every corner.

I returned my eyes to them, my heart racing fast at the accusation. If CCTV cameras are up there, they would show I didn’t steal anything. I parted my l*ps to defend myself when Malena stunned me by grabbing me close to her. Shielding me with her b*dy and her arms stretched. She sheltered me in a gallant manner, her pose said she wouldn’t give them a pass, and they would have to go through her first to get to me.

“We are doing our business, shopping but what’s with this farcical attitude you are displaying right now? Why would you disrupt us with such a preposterous accusation? Do you know who you are

accu.

“If you don’t comply with the search, we might have to use force,” the first security said. His voice was very dry and the expression on his face was very stony. Cutting Malena off.

Everything was happening fast, I couldn’t understand or believe what they were saying. I just didn’t understand why I would have to be humiliated everytime I set foot out of the house. The other time was Maya, I wondered what I would have done in that situation if that guy hadn’t shown up and right now, I’m accused of stealing something valuable. When? How? Brain dead of what was transpiring before me and a bitter knot formed in the pit of my stomach, I placed myself hands on my clothes, hoping I wasn’t guilty of what I was being accused of.

And that I was totally innocent. My hands frantically dropped at the side pockets of my dress and felt something heavy in it. My breath ceased, my nervous system stopped working at that moment and my brain went blank as I felt the hard surface against my palm. Without checking to know what was in there. I know that’s what they were looking for.

I gulped hard. Fear surged through like running waters. Unable to process what to do next. How to defend myself when the evidence was right there in my pocket but how did it get into my pocket? I rummaged my brain, trying to figure out how that got into my pocket in the first place.

“Wahhh,” came the voice of Maya’s friend. I swallowed and slowly shifted my eyes to him. His eyes had a mocking flicker in them. A detestable look was mapped clearly on his face. His eyes held a mocking, condemning and accusing amusement in them and I bet he must be enjoying the drama going on.

Embarrassed and feeling shameful, I didn’t utter a word and only stared at him. The corners of his Hips quivered in a wicked grin. He was being entertained by my helplessness. “Wow, this is mind- blowing. I didn’t know you still retained this behavior of yours. I thought you might have outgrown

it.”

His lasered voice pierced my b*dy like a stray bullet. Crushing my bones.

“What is this?” Malena swift her head to me, wearing a puzzled look in her eyes. “What is he talking about?”

I kept mute, watching the curious questioning look in her eyes. I hoped this was one big fat nightmare, one I’d wake up from but this was real. Malena’s breath fanning the side of my n*eck and her bulging eyes proved everything was real.

“You didn’t tell her?” Maya’s friend named Dennis mocked.

“Tell me what?” Malena narrowed her gaze to him. “And young man, who are you to intrude? You should keep your nose out of other people’s business.”

“Me?” Dennis laughed wickedly. His voice was laced with derision. “I’m no intruder……” He halted, directing his eyes at me. He was a bully, he bullied me and some weak inferior students in my high school days. But he bullied me the most.

“Ask her,” he referred to me with his eyes. A look of contempt visible across his overly annoying face. “We both have a very good frenemy relationship, don’t we, huh?” He started to come closer but Malena stuck out her hand to keep him at arm length.

“Hold it right there, kid.” Malena snapped. “Just because you know her before doesn’t mean she did what she’s being accused of.”

“Really?” He cackled. “I guess you are the one who doesn’t know her…”

“That’s enough!” Malena shut him up and I saw a dark glint in his eyes. He was beginning to fume when she silenced him, although he didn’t make it obvious. “I won’t let you search her until you show me the control panel and I/see for myself….I will comply with your demand if you comply

with mine.”

“There would be no need for that,” a female voice echoed from behind. When one of the security. men moved out of the way, the owner of the voice came to view, causing my mouth to drop open. It was Nora, one of Maya’s group of friends who bullied the living life out of me. The girl Otto

drove out of his hotel along with the rest.

Her big mascaraed eyes coated with the fake lashes harbored a repulsive look in them. Her slender figure was accentuated by the tight designer jeans on her tiny waist matching the beige chiffon blouse with a long ribbon on her upper b*dy. She looked elegant, her wavy cream chocolate hair rested on her shoulders. Her face was slightly intimidating.

She brought a hand up, blowing on her fingers as her face turned b*tchy while glaring at me. “Because she did it.” She added.

“What are you talking about?” Malena queried. Confused. “How could you come from nowhere and claim she did it? Do you have any proof of your allegation?”

A nasty smile spread across her l*ps. “Then let the security men do their job, why are you stopping them unless you two……are in this together…”

“What?” Malena flared up and started making her way to her. I know it wouldn’t turn out well if I don’t hold her back. I immediately clasped her arm, gripping her tightly. I shook my head when she turned her face to me.

“We are being accused of theft and you want me to keep silent and not do anything? Hey kid, it’s better you stand your ground unless you will be used as a doormat.”

A small pale smile graced my l*ps, letting go of her arm, and dipped into my left pocket, ready to pull out the stuff in my pocket.

“Hey kid,” Malena cautioned. “Weren’t you taught some respect? Is this the way you treat your elders? Show some respect will you! Or do you want me to knock some manners into you!”

Nora scoffed. Rolling her eyes in disrespect..

“Not in the mood to pick a fight with some oldie,” she wrinkled her face and proceeded toward me. “If you won’t let the security men do their job, I will do it in their stead.”

My heart battered against my chest. Thumping irregularly. I waited for the worst to happen, I shut my eyes. Waiting for the worst, waiting to be labeled a thief.

“Found it,” she singsang as she pulled out the stuff in my pocket. “There it is. I knew you were being all dramatic to stall time and remove it.”

“Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation?” She smirked, twirling the face foundation tube in her grip. How did that get into my pocket? “Are you that desperate to use the latest brand of this? I thought you weren’t interested in makeup and stuff?”

I stared in disbelief. Wondering how it got there. I parted my l*ps to defend myself when Malena cast a curious look at me but the words were snatched by Dennis,

“Do you believe me now?” He directed his question to Malena. “I told you I know her well.”

“I didn’t take that,I opened my mouth to defend myself for the first time since this whole drama

started. “I don’t….know…..how that…got into my pocket. I swear on my life.”

“Easy there, dear,” Nora sneered. “No point for you to swear. If you don’t know how it got there, what is it doing in your pocket? Are you saying it sprouted out wings and legs and climbed into your pocket?”

I’m not so inclined to believe you,” she added. “Guess what, and neither do they.” She directed her gaze to everyone in our section and that’s when I noticed that everyone’s attention was on us now.

“I put it there,” another voice came. Wow, what’s going on today? Why am I being surprised now and then. I wondered who that voice belonged to this time around, anxiously waiting for whoever it belonged to reveal themselves.

Nora pulled out of the way, as the owner of the voice made himself known. My jaw dropped when our eyes met. As usual he was always handsome and across his face was a beautiful smile. Dressed. in black khakis and a cream striped shirt.

“I put it there. She didn’t steal it.” He smiled at me again. That angelic smile of his and I couldn’t help but mumble out his name in astonishment.

“Jaden?”

I tossed around on the floor, unable to sleep. It was 2am, midnight/day but I couldn’t feel sleep taking over. The incident that happened today has been on my mind. I couldn’t get it out of my head. First, how did that cosmetic get into my pocket and why did Jaden take the fall for it? But at the same time, I was surprised to see him there or more like show up at that time? Last time it was that dude and this time it was Jaden. Being defended by my crush was an amazing feeling but that feeling was short–lived when Maya crossed my mind. He was now a married man, married to my half sister.

This is the goddess’s fault. If she had given me my ability to shift, I would have been happily married to Jaden but here I am trapped in this house with the most terrifying man as my husband.

I sighed and got up, making my way out of my room. I walked out and as I was about to descend downstairs to the kitchen to get some water, the room door at the end corner of the hallway opened, revealing Otto. He was dressed in simple clothing and at the moment, I saw an ordinary man and not my snappy cold intimidating husband.

Our eyes met. I gulped and quickly looked away, proceeding to continue with my business when a loud thud startled me.

I looked and saw Otto on the floor. Did he just collapse?

“Mr Lee?” I shrieked and rushed to him. Pulling his head to rest it on my thighs and gently tapping his cheek to get him to open his eyes but they weren’t even moving a muscle.

His eyes were tightly shut and his b*dy was limp. He wasn’t moving a muscle.
