Sherry frowned. “The engagement won't happen for now.”

For now?

He squinted coldly. “So, it’s happening soon?”

Sherry averted his gaze. “I don’t know.”

John took a step closer to her. He stared into her eyes and asked, “What do you mean you don’t know?”

Sherry averted his gaze once more. “There’s still a lot of time to figure it out. | don’t know if I'll remain single, or if I'll marrysomeone in the future.”

John curled his lips. It was not an ominous and frosty smile but a bright and relieved one.“Come out,” he said.

Sherry was stunned.

Then, the chubby Caprice came out from the closet beside

them.

Sherry’s eyes gleamed. “Caprice!”

Caprice ran to her as well. “Mommy...”

Sherry bent over immediately and hugged the girl tightly. She could not help kissing the girl’s adorable cheeks.Caprice stared at her mother with her widened eyes.

Sherry pinched her cheeks and said, “Caprice, what are you doing here? Do you miss me?”Caprice looked at John. “Daddy brought me-”

“Caprice said she missed you, so | brought her here,” the man said.

Caprice pursed her lips. The little girl did miss her mother.

Sherry kissed the girl one more time.

John had a glance at his watch and then said, “I still have something to do at the office. | have to go now. I'll put Caprice in yourcare for now. Her milk powder and diapers are in that bag. Take good care of her.”

Sherry failed to react in time and was stunned on the spot.

What did he just say? Did he just leave Caprice with her?

John did not see her reaction. He squinted and asked, ” What’s wrong? Don’t you want to take care of Caprice?”“YES! I'LL TAKE GOOD CARE OF HER!” Sherry was exalted. “You go ahead! Caprice is in good hands!”John glanced at her before he went out.

The door closed, leaving Sherry with Caprice inside the

room.

Sherry carried the girl and looked at her adorable face. “ Caprice, what do you like to do for fun?”Caprice said, “I like to sleep.”

“Sleep? That's it? Is there anything else?” Sherry asked.

Caprice simply hummed a reply.

“Do you like to play games?”

Caprice shook her head. The girl seemed like a quiet person. She even walked and ate slower than other kids,so it was not surprising that she did not love games.

Sherry stroked her cheeks. “Are you sleepy now?”

Caprice shook her head.

Sherry nodded. “Then, why don’t | tell you a story?”

As though it was her first time hearing the word ‘story’, Caprice’s eyes widened in interest. She nodded andhummed a reply.

Sherry took off her jacket and carried her daughter to bed.

She lay on the bed with one arm around the girl. She then searched her phone for a children’s story and then started reading it tothe girl. She invested a lot of feelings in reading as it was also her first time.

“Once upon a time, there was a gray wolf in the forest...” The room was filled with her soft and gentle voice.Caprice leaned on her chest and stared at her with her crystal-clear eyes. She was captivated by the story.

Meanwhile, in the room beside Sherry’s suit, the man, who claimed he had to leave for work, leaned on the couch lazily as helistened to the voice next door.

The wall of the hotel had excellent noise isolation, but the tapping device he left in Caprice’s bag clearly captured Sherry’s voiceand transmitted it to his phone.

It was a simple story, but even he had not read the girl a story in the past two years.
