Mate ...s ?!?! -
Chapter Fifty
[Jaxson’s POV]
It’s been a fucking week since we were darted at the lake and Orion was taken from us.
Jace and I have been searching for him but we have been coming up empty handed. It’s been more than frustrating and we have been becoming hostile because of it. Jace and I have had to keep away from the others just so that we don’t attack them. It is far worse than when Orion was in a coma. It was just one of us then, now it’s the both of us and its not good. I was close to actually losing my mind when Orion was in his coma but Jace was able to keep me from slipping that far. With the both of us on edge for the past week the entire Pack has not slept very well.
We have been searching everywhere for our little Mate and nothing has come up. No ransom, no reason as to why this all happened at all. Nothing. Not a damn thing.
We had Warriors searching the woods where we had been attacked and there had not been a single clue as to who had been there. Other than the three of us there had not even been a trace of there ever being another being there. Not even a bird. We had the darts but there had only been four because Jace hadn’t taken the one out of Orion’s neck and I hadn’t even thought of it while I was fighting to stay on my own feet. I had at least wanted to try to replace the person who had shot us.
I wanted to scream in frustration because one of my Mates was missing, I was letting him down by not replaceing him. Being shot with Wolfsbane was deadly to anyone if left untreated. Jace and I had been shot twice with those things but only because we had kept moving. Orion had gone down instantly. Jace and I were much bigger in our Human forms too. Regardless of Orion’s parentage, he was still an Omega and Mortal, he could be hurt and need us.
Those thoughts brought in more questions, could his dart have been laced with a stronger dose just so that we could get him to safety before his kidnapper could take us down and take him? We had been in the middle of the lake after all.
Regardless, I was going to replace Orion and I was going to kill whoever dared to take him from Jace and I.
[Orion’s POV]
For a week I have been trying to reach Rain and my Mates, but for some reason I was cut off from them. All of them. I was getting sick, like actually sick. Without the connection to Rain I was physically becoming sick. Without my connection to the Goddess I would die. I am her child and not truly meant for this world. I am a star she plucked from the heavens to love as her own. The last day of the week my captor whose name I learned was Diego, came into the room where he had kept me.
I was laying on the bed my back to the door, too drained to move too much. I could hear Diego come into the room and move to the bedside table. He wanted to be closer but for some reason never dared to get too close to me.
“Why do you look so sick my little Wolf?” he questioned, his voice showing concern as he leaned over to look at my pale face. “Have they not been taking care of my little Wolf?” he asked as he sat next to me, running his fingers through my hair. Finally showing something other than a stoic expression as he finally touched me, his touch like slime on my skin.
I wanted to throw up at his touch and push him away but I was too weak to do much of anything. I could glare at him though and glare at this man I did. “You did something to me. Give me my Wolf back and I won’t be sick asshole!!!” I groaned, trying to shout harshly at him but failing because of the dryness in my throat. I had water and food aplenty but it did nothing to help. He had sent people in to make sure I ate like clockwork but it did nothing to help.
I needed Rain.
Diego looked at me thoughtfully for a moment. Like he was actually considering giving back MY WOLF to me. I was getting so angry about all of this. I needed something to happen, something to give. I could have easily gotten out of this days ago, I could have called my mother and asked for some divine intervention if I had the absolute need of it, but I wanted to know why this mad man was after me so intently. My mother wanted me to live my life myself and to do things for myself and learn things on my own, so I was going to use this as a lesson for my future and learn from it.
“I will give your Wolf back to you my sweet, but your chains stay. I had come to take them off today from you, but if it is your Wolf you need, then I will give him back the ability to speak to you.” Diego said before kissing my forehead and leaving the room in a flourish of movement.
I wanted to rage and scream at this man who held me captive. I wanted to rip his head off. I wanted to pull him limb from limb as he begged me for mercy. He had no idea what he had started. However, at the moment I had no energy and I was beginning to fall asleep. I could feel myself being pulled into sleep and I was just going to let it come. Hoping I could feel my Wolf this time.
I closed my eyes and began to slowly breathe in and out. Trying to concentrate and focus on Rain and how he looked and felt to me. Soon I was able to feel him again. His face coming into view and I was more than happy to see him again. My best friend had not been far from me, he had been kept from me.
This man had found a way to temporarily separate a Human from their Wolf mentally and that was dangerous. That was magic of the blackest kind and only trained Witches could perform it easily. I needed to get in contact with my Mates and soon. I didn’t want to be here anymore.
[Jaxson’s POV]
Jace and I were running the length of the river again. We had been going crazy for the last few days, it’s the end of the week and we both can feel Orion slipping away from us. We have done everything to try and reach him but we can’t get through to him. Nothing we have done has gotten through. We searched over every inch of our territory and the territory that was in between ours and the four other Packs that surrounded ours. We stopped at the lake and sat by its edge for long moments. Staring at the ground where we had collapsed. I could see Orion still in Jace’s arms, wrapped up securely, he had a grip on our little Mate so when we woke up a few hours later the marks on his arms could be explained. Whoever had taken Orion had literally ripped him from Jace’s arms.
“If I had a tight grip on him and there was nothing to show there was anyone else here other than the marks on my arms, what could have taken him?” Jace asked me as we looked back over the scene.
I looked again and thought for a moment. I pointed to the spot that would have been the most likely spot. “I don’t know, baby. We have looked all through here and have found nothing. Not a trace of another person that could have been here or close enough to have hit us.” I said thoughtfully.
“Do you think it was a Wraith?” Jace asked curiously, “They are the only supernatural creatures that can hover over bodies like that.” he added thoughtfully.
I shook my head, “No, we would not have been left alive. Wraiths tend to kill everything around it.” I replied thoughtfully. Wraiths were beings of pure darkness and if they were ever called out nothing survived.
“Not if they are being controlled.” Jace said as he circled the ground again.
I looked at him in shock. Was that even possible? If it was that could explain why there were no footprints but not why there had been no trace of even Orion leaving the area? It had been like he had just vanished on the very spot he had fallen.
Wraith can’t teleport. At least not to my knowledge. Again, it could be different if they are being controlled because then they could just be summoned. I sighed and sat in the dirt, folding my arms across my chest, deep in thought.
Something was just not right with all of this and I wanted to know what was going on and where Orion was. I needed to replace him and soon before Jace and I lost what was left of our sanity.
