Milwaukee Deep -
Epilogue
As the day turned to dusk four men stood silent within the confines of the examination room staring down at the body on the table…
“Has it survived the incubation period?” asked the old man in the grey coat, finally breaking the silence.
“We believe so. The next few hours will confirm it,” replied the youngest of the four.
“Who would have thought that after twenty-three years we would finally be standing here witnessing this event,” remarked the most senior to the group – a General of the United States Army.
“Have we confirmed what they will be doing with the Mother Ship once they finish the testing? Asked the final of the four – a middle aged man, dressed in a black suit, his shoes polished, his white shirt pressed to perfection.
“Since that explosion, it still amazes me it not only withstood it but has remained intact,” replied the old man in the grey coat.
“There’s no question, to be able to survive a nuclear explosion from within its hull and still be intact is remarkable in itself – it is an event this country is extremely fortunate to have uncovered.”
“Yes, even though not a living thing was left within it, to know that hull has the ability to withstand such firepower is a gift this country will never truly appreciate,” added the General
“Well, that’s not entirely true, Sir…not everything that was in it was destroyed, we did recover the alien DNA,” replied the young scientist.
“Yes,” smiled the General, “and you my boy, to finally be able to clone one with human tissue and create this masterpiece is something you should be very proud of.”
The door to the examination room opened.
In walked the President of the United States, Mary Gerstein.
“Madam President, good of you to come.”
“Well, General has it worked?” she asked.
“Yes, Madam President, the incubation period was successful…we can confirm it - we have your weapon”….
