Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire -
Chapter 308
Everett's tone was icy, "Didn't I tell you to reach out to Derick if you need something? Stop calling me."
But on the other end, Margot's voice broke through, filled with panic and fear, her words laced with tears. "Everett... please, help me... I need help..."
"What's happening?"
The line suddenly became chaotic, Margot's words were cut off, making them hard to understand. After a piercing scream, the call abruptly ended. Everett frowned, quickly dialing back, but was only met with a persistent busy signal. No one picked up.
He hurried back to his bedroom, threw on a sweater, grabbed his car keys, and as he was about to leave, he glanced back at Selena without thinking. She was sound asleep, completely unaware of the turmoil.
Everett's hand lingered on the doorknob as he quietly closed the door behind him and rushed out.
His black Bentley tore through the night, the cool air washing over him.
As she slept, Selena was suddenly jolted awake by a cramp in her left leg.
"Everett..."
She called out, expecting him to be next to her, but the bed was empty.
Confusion flickered in her eyes, but she couldn't dwell on it. The cramp demanded her full attention. She focused on breathing deeply and straightening her leg to ease the pain. A light sheen of sweat formed on her forehead.
After a few moments, the discomfort faded, and Selena exhaled slowly, sinking back into the bed.
Her health had always been pretty good, rarely bothered by such things. But since getting pregnant, little issues seemed to pop up now and then.
No wonder they say being a mom is the toughest job. She was only three months in and already felt it.
But...
Selena gently rubbed her still-flat belly, a small smile tugging at her lips.
Despite everything, she felt incredibly happy. Knowing the baby was growing inside her, breathing and thriving, made it all worth it.
Exhaustion must have taken over because her eyelids drooped, and she drifted back to sleep.
The next morning, Selena woke up wrapped in Everett's arms, her eyes fluttering open to replace his handsome jawline close by. Her mind was still a bit foggy.
Did he go out last night, or was she just dreaming?
Sensing her gaze, Everett opened his eyes too, looking down at the soft, gentle woman in his arms. He leaned in to kiss her softly.
His voice, husky from sleep, was irresistibly charming, "Morning, Mrs. Bennett. Sleep well?"
As he spoke, his hand wandered over her waist, drawing lazy circles.
Selena shot him a playful glare for being so cheeky first thing in the morning.
She brushed his hand away, but curiosity got the better of her. "I woke up last night and didn't see you. Were you out?"
His fingers toyed with her hair, pausing briefly at her question before resuming their play.
"Yeah, just went to the study to check some documents."
That made sense.
Then Everett tilted her chin up, his dark eyes filled with mischief. "Mrs. Bennett, are you so clingy? Can't
sleep without me by your say 13
He had her number!
QUMS
"No, I was just asking!"
But her cheeks flushed despite her denial, making it hard to take her seriously.
As expected, Everett's nose brushed against her cute one, teasing, "Little fibber, saying one thing but meaning another."
His fingertip tapped lightly on her reddened lips, his smile turning devilish. "I'll have to punish you for that!"
With that, he cupped the back of her head, stopping any escape, and kissed her deeply.
Their embrace was intense, filled with both passion and tenderness.
By the end, Selena's eyes were misty, her lips swollen and sore, leaving her with no desire to revisit their earlier conversation.
...
On the last day of the New Year's holiday, Joy showed up at the villa, arms full of gifts and treats for Selena.
She'd been on a trip abroad and
brought back a bunch of matching bags and jewelry for Selena, insisting they sport sching styles.
