Even though she hadn't been online much or checking group messages and chats lately, she was still clued in about the buzz surrounding Everett. Word had spread like wildfire that he had taken Margot to the hospital and then moved out of their marital home to live with her. Everett's romantic escapades were the kind of juicy gossip that no one in their social circle could ignore. Callum, usually the picture of calm and sophistication, showed a rare frown, a shadow of gloom passing over his eyes. But Selena, deep in thought, missed his change in demeanor.

After a moment, she gathered her thoughts and spoke again, "Dr. Campbell, I need a favor. I've thought it over, and I believe you're the only one who can help me."

Callum gently helped her to a bench by the lake and sat down beside her, replying softly, "Sure, what do you need?"

"My health isn't great, and there's a real risk of severe bleeding during childbirth, putting both me and the baby in danger. The doctors have suggested a termination to save my life, but I just can't..."

Selena lovingly touched her belly, her face soft with emotion. "I wanted to talk to Everett about replaceing a specialist, hoping there might be a doctor who could give us some hope. But now, he doesn't want me or our child. I have to figure this out on my own." "You know so many doctors. Could you help me, please?"

Her eyes were pleading, like any mother fiercely protective of her child, ready to sacrifice everything for their well-being.

A tinge of red appeared at the corners of Callum's eyes. As a doctor, he knew the safer option was the termination, despite the risks. But when he tried to speak, he couldn't bring himself to refuse her. He looked at her intently and managed to say, "Okay."

Callum's promises were rock-solid. If he said he'd do something, he made it happen.

Selena felt a wave of relief wash over her, her heart finally at ease as she smiled.

In the days that followed, she blocked out the world, focusing entirely on her pregnancy. Everett hadn't come back, and she had stopped trying to reach him. her anger, packed away all his things, dismissing any news of him

disdain.

Selena spent her time writing in her diary and keeping a pregnancy journal. She chose beautiful notebooks and colorful pens over a computer, wanting to leave behind the most beautiful memories for her child, should the worst happen.

Before they knew it, summer had slipped away, and early autumn had arrived. Newport's autumn wasn't as dramatic as up north, where the leaves turned yellow overnight, but the crisp breeze made everything feel fresh.

Today, Selena was at the hospital

for her final prenatal checkup. Her belly had grown so large that she couldn't even see her toes anymore. Thanks to Callum's help, she had been under the care of Dr. Carrillo, a retired but skilled obstetrician, who had been able to ease her discomfort and significantly improve her chances during childbirth. Her due date was just a week away.

After the checkup, Ava went to pick up some medicine, leaving Selena waiting at the hospital entrance, careful not to move around too much. Suddenly, her phone rang.

Selena fished her phone out of her purse, surprised to see an unknown number calling. Not many people had her private number. After a moment's hesitation, she answered, "Hello, who is this?"
