Everett instinctively opened his mouth to speak, but the words just wouldn't come out. The tangled mess that was his relationship with Margot, and the situation with her child, wasn't something he could untangle with a sentence or two. The whole ordeal was a knot of He furrowed his brow, feeling a suffocating weight on his chest. In an attempt to breathe, he unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt, unintentionally revealing a rugged, irresistible charm.

emotions and past entanglements, far too complicated to express.

"Selena, I... Look, nothing inappropriate happened between Margot and me. You're the only woman for me!"

He tried, once more, to explain things in his own way.

Even though Selena hadn't really expected to hear anything that would make sense, his lame excuse was beyond disappointing. She curled her lips into a sarcastic smile.

"Everett, if you can't explain it, don't bother. I really don't care anymore."

When love fades and only indifference remains, his actions or lack thereof meant nothing to her.

Her words hit Everett hard, like a slap to the face. He had tried again and again to patch things up, swallowing his pride for the sake of peace, but she was unyielding. Her refusal to budge reignited the anger he had been trying to keep in check.

But her fragile state, looking like a gust of wind could knock her over, held him back from truly lashing out.

In a moment of frustration, Everett kicked a chair, sending it clattering to the floor with a loud crash!

Selena barely fluttered her eyelashes in response, showing no other reaction-neither joy nor sorrow. Breathing heavily, Everett glared at her with his hands on his hips, then abruptly turned and called out, "Ava!"

Ava, who had been waiting outside, quickly dashed in at his call.

"Make sure she eats! She needs to finish everything!"

With that command hanging in the air, Everett stormed out, not bothering to look back.

Once his footsteps faded away, Ava pursed her lips, setting up a small table on the bed and placing a nutritious meal on it.

Other women seemed to glow with health and happiness after childbirth, but Selena looked pale and joyless. Seeing her like this tugged at Ava's heart, bringing tears to her eyes.

She placed the utensils beside Selena, speaking gently, "Ma'am, I know you're going through a tough time, but now you need to focus on your health. Please, for now, try not to goagainst your husband, okay?"

Moon Bay was surrounded by security like a fortress; getting in or out was no small feat. Daily supplies came from designated people, not even a fly could slip past.

Self-pity would only harm her health further, and it certainly wouldn't free her from this situation.

To Ava's surprise, Selena picked up the utensils and started eating without hesitation.

Blinking in disbelief, Ava wondered if she had imagined it.

"Ma'am... Have you really come to terms with it so quickly?" Was her advice really that effective?

Selena chewed thoughtfully and nodded.

She had a son to think about, waiting for her outside. She couldn't afford to let her health deteriorate; she needed to get back on her feet quickly.

But this was a matter too serious to share with Ava. The fewer people who knew, the better.

After a pause, she added, "Ava, I know you've always been good to me. I won't make things difficult for you."
