Everett's strong arms wrapped around her slender waist, the picture of undeniable intimacy. But just a moment later, he pushed the beauty away without a hint of remorse, leaving her sitting on the ground, her face a mix of shock and disbelief.

Soon enough, Derick came in, and both the unlucky guy and the beauty were escorted out, likely never to grace the marketplace again. Afterward, Everett's piercing dark eyes were fixed on Jaime, demanding a ride back to Moon Bay. Jaime wanted to say no, but did he dare? Of course not! He was terrified of becoming the next victim of Everett's wrath.

Everett wasn't interested in listening to Jaime's excuses. He simply hung up the phone and called Derick. As soon as Derick picked up, Everett instructed, "Put the projects with Armstrong Inc on hold, and demand a five percent increase before we discuss them further." Derick immediately realized Jaime had yet again angered Mr. Everett and silently sympathized with him. After agreeing, he reminded, "Mr. Everett, you've got a business trip to the Capital tomorrow. I'll pick you up at 8 a.m."

"Got it," Everett replied. Heading downstairs, he still saw no sign of Selena. With a slight furrow of his brow, he called for Ava to inquire about his wife. Ava, who had her share of grievances, couldn't help but reply with a bit of sarcasm, "Where else could she be? Just wandering around the villa. After breakfast, she went out to the backyard to soak up some sun."

Everett shot her a displeased glance but chose not to argue. He skipped breakfast and headed straight to the backyard. From a distance, he spotted Selena on a swing by the flowerbeds, her head resting against the hanging vines, lost in thought. His gaze lingered on her frail figure, and the memory of her pained face from the previous night pricked at his heart.

After a moment, he walked over to her. His tall frame cast a shadow, blocking the sunlight. Selena didn't even bother to look up, sensing her peace being disrupted. She stood to leave.

Everett pulled her into an embrace from behind, his voice low and close to her ear, tinged with a subtle apology. "Selena, about last night..." Just hearing those words made Selena's body tense and tremble.

"Let me go!" she demanded,

struggling to keep her emotions in check, unsure of what she might do otherwise. Everett held her tighter determined to finish what he had to say. "had too much to drink, lost control, and hurt you, didn't? Please, don't be mad. I'm sorry, okay?"

He rarely spoke such vulnerable words, clearly uncomfortable.

Without waiting for her response, he held out his hand, revealing a diamond necklace glinting in the sunlight. "I came back last night wanting to give this to you. When I saw it, I just knew it was perfect for you."

Selena slowly looked up at the necklace in his hand, feeling trapped, just like she was in his grasp, unable to break free. She found it utterly absurd. It was the same old trick of offering a sweet after a slap. She was his wife, but to him, she was little more than a pet, a toy, or even... someone to use. Otherwise, why would he treat her so carelessly?

Selena raised her hand, took the necklace, and as Everett's eyes lit up, thinking he'd help her put it on, she tossed it with force into the artificial lake ahead. With a soft plop, the diamond necklace sank, disappearing from view. "Everett, I don't want your dirty gifts. Save them for your mistresses! Keep them out of my sight!"
