The man couldn't help but chuckle, his long fingers playfully tapping her upturned nose. "Alright, just for you, my little treasure hunter!"

Only then did Selena's smile finally break free.

That evening, Everett pulled Selena into his arms, drifting into a deep sleep together.

As she listened to his steady, rhythmic breathing, her thick eyelashes fluttered gently before she slowly opened her eyes.

Never underestimate your opponent-this was a lesson she had learned from her years of chasing stories.

Back then, she had walked out of the club's grand doors without a hitch, just a step away from flagging down a taxi to make her escape. But then, a sudden chill ran down her spine. Was Everett's slip-up tonight a mere accident, or was it on purpose?

Clearly, it was the latter.

He was always so deep and methodical, a master at playing with people's emotions. There was no way he'd leave such an obvious gap in his defenses.

This was just a test.

She reckoned she wouldn't get far before being caught, and then... well, what awaited her would likely be even harsher.

Better to play along, gain his trust, and get him to drop his guard completely! That would be the best setup for her eventual escape.

With that thought, Selena slowly closed her eyes and let herself drift off to sleep, feeling strangely at ease.

The next day, Everett cleared his schedule and whisked Selena away on his private jet to France.

Selena was taken aback, staring at his handsome face across from her as he sipped his coffee. "Why are we going to France? Is it for work?"

Everett gave a casual smile, "Vacation."

Seeing her surprise linger, he added casually, "Remember how you always wanted to go on a honeymoon after we got married? I never had the chance back then, so I'm making it up to you now." Never had the chance... In truth, it was because he didn't think she was worth it.

During their marriage, he had taken Margot on countless trips abroad, tagging along on her global tours. When did he ever not have the time?

But now, she couldn't care less, no longer yearning for it. Yet here he was, putting on a show of affection for whom?

Inside, Selena scoffed, though she kept a smile on her face. "Great, it's been ages since I last went on a vacation."

France was famous for its vacation spots, boasting beautiful landscapes and fresh air. Everett and Selena checked into an incredibly luxurious castle, one of his private properties. He casually mentioned that he had homes all over the globe.

Wherever she wanted to go in the future, she could.

Selena knew Everett was loaded, but she was still taken aback. Even after more than three years of marriage, she realized her understanding of him was only skin-deep. No wonder those women, including Margot, clung to him like their lives depended on it.

He was like a walking ATM!

Skiing in the morning, a lavish lunch at noon, soaking in hot springs by afternoon-Everett hadn't indulged in such leisure, free from work, in ages.

To him, it always felt like wasting time, utterly pointless.

But this time, with Selena by his side, watching her face light up with genuine joy, he oddly felt it wasn't entirely meaningless.

So this is what life is about.

Later that night, after a warm bath

Selena lay in bed. A full day of activities had naturally worn her out, but the thrill of it all still buzzed inside, keeping her awake.

The man, who seemed like a workaholic who barely stepped outside, was in reality quite the

fun-loving spirit, with a knack for et

sports. Today, he had guided her

through skiing, turning her from a novice into a quick learner.

And it was the same when they played golf.

She found herself glancing at the man stepping out of the bathroom, wondering what had transformed him from a frail boy with heart issues to the person he was now. "Can't sleep?" His husky voice suddenly broke the silence near her ear.

Selena, still caught in her thoughts, didn't quite register and absentmindedly responded with a hum.

Everett's lips curled into a playful grin. "Well then, let's... do something else to help you sleep."

With that, he gently grasped her wrists, pinning them softly by her head, and leaned down to press a deep kiss on her lips.

"Mmm..."

Selena's mind snapped back to reality, her eyes widening as memories of their last encounter flashed across her mind, her body beginning to tremble slightly.
