Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire -
Chapter 381
"Mm."
As his words drifted off, the man's long fingers gently grasped her delicate chin, his lips meeting hers. He kissed her with a mix of intensity and tenderness, coaxing her mouth open, his tongue playfully entwining with hers. Selena, eager to bring it to a close, slowly began to kiss him back. Time seemed to stretch on endlessly, and by the time Selena realized it, she was gasping for air, her mind swirling in a haze. Before she knew it, he had her pinned down once more...
The next day, just as she had expected, Selena couldn't muster the strength to get out of bed. She had planned to explore some historic sites, but now all she could do was lay there, feeling limp and exhausted. Meanwhile, the culprit behind her condition looked completely content, showing no signs of fatigue despite his efforts. If anything, he seemed more energized than ever.
Fuming, Selena gave him a light kick in the stomach.
This man must be part teddy bear, she thought with irritation!
Everett just chuckled and stayed in bed with her, catching up on sleep. Normally disciplined and never one to lounge around, it surprised him to replace himself doing just that, staying in bed with her until the afternoon. He only got up because he worried she might be starving. The hotel's revolving restaurant was a 24/7 paradise, offering a buffet with every dish imaginable.
Selena was so famished she felt like her stomach was stuck to her spine. She returned to the table with her plate piled high and devoured her food with gusto, prompting Everett to wipe her lips with a napkin, laughing, "Take it easy, no one's going to steal your food." He used to mind her lack of table manners, but now he found it endearing. Watching her eat heartily and gain a little weight was far more pleasing than seeing her look listless. Who's fault was it, really?
Selena focused on her food, not even bothering to glance his way.
"Hey! Everett! Is that really you?" A voice with a slightly awkward English accent cut through the air.
Everett lazily lifted his eyelids, glancing at the newcomer.
The man, tall and handsome with blond hair and blue eyes, bounded over and clapped Everett on the shoulder, grinning broadly, "What a coincidence running into you here." Everett recognized him immediately, a smile spreading across his face as he stood to hug him, "Long time no see, John."
John was an old college buddy and roommate, someone who had also shared the trials of Wall Street with him.
They'd gone their separate ways when John decided to go home and take over his family's business, but they kept in touch now and then.
John's gaze landed on Selena, "Everett, is she... your girlfriend?"
Everett introduced her with a warm smile, "My wife, Selena. Selena, this is John, a good friend of mine."
In front of others, Selena always maintained her politeness and poise. She stood up to greet him, "Hello."
"Hello, Mrs. Bennett."
John took her hand and kissed the back of it with a gentlemanly flair, genuinely complimenting, "You're stunning. Everett has impeccable taste." Selena smiled softly, "Thank you."
John wasn't alone; he had brought along his wife and child, taking a rare vacation.
His three-year-old child had strikingly delicate features and deep blue eyes that seemed straight out of a storybook, instantly charming anyone who saw him. Selena, enchanted, finished her meal and whisked him and Sadie away to the play area.
Meanwhile, Everett and John sat in the lounge, sipping coffee and catching up.
Taking a break from work talk, John teased Everett about finally settling down, recalling how back in school he seemed indifferent to romantic pursuits despite the throngs of women interested in him. John had even briefly wondered about his orientation...
Everett almost choked on his coffee, a smile tugging at his lips, "That wasn't necessary."
As the conversation meandered towards children, John noticed Selena's fondness for kids and naturally inquired, "Do you have any little ones yet?"
Everett's expression darkened slightly, his voice dropping, "We did, but we lost the baby to a miscarriage."
"Oh, I'm sorry," John said, regret lacing his words, quickly adding, "It's alright, you're both young. There are plenty of chances ahead."
Everett fell silent for a moment, then remembered John's background in medicine from their college days.
He pondered for a moment before
asking, "John, my wife and I have been trying to conceive again, but nothing's happening. Do you think the miscarriage might have affected her ability to conceive?"
After hearing the details, John shook his head, Given how well you're taking care of her, it shouldn't be a problem. It might be stress, or perhaps... contraceptives are involved." en Ebookex
Contraceptives?
A thought struck Everett, and his eyes darted towards Selena, who was happily playing with the child, his lips pressing into a tight, cold line.
