Recovering quickly from her momentary feeling of terror, Molly’s fingers quickly found the second jar. With the possibility of real danger lurking above her on the hillside, she hastily removed the lid. Running quickly to the circle, she poured its contents on the opposite side.

Moving with speed, the fairy pulled the yellow wand from her pocket, dipping it into the purple flames which already flickered and flashed. Molly hoped with all her heart it would be long enough to activate it. Next, she stroked her wings with the fiery wand, ignoring the footsteps and grunts she could hear in the background.

“Be as you were before,” she whispered.

Her heart leapt with joy as she heard the familiar ringing chimes, clear as a silvery bell. A tingling feeling spread over her shoulders which told her healing was taking place. Just at that moment, she felt the hands on her shoulders, heavy and hurtful.

Molly could feel the pull of the muscles in her small shoulders as her healed wings unfurled, drawing her body out of the hands that would hold her down.

How wonderful it felt to be rising far above the ground again. Lifting her face to the sky, Molly’s heart swelled with joy as it pounded fiercely. Her wings were as good as they had ever been.

“Fantastic!” she cried. Soaring upwards into the night sky, she looked downward. In her excitement she had almost forgotten there was someone at the circle. It was the guard on whom the magic spell of a deeper sleep had not worked.

Jumping up and down on the ground below her, he showed his fury. Shaking his fist at her, he yelled, “Come back here or your friends will pay the price!”

Realizing she was still clutching the yellow wand, she flew closer to him, waving it over his head. “Sleep the slumber of deepest dark sleep!” she called out, knowing this time it would work, as she heard its clear ringing chimes.

The guard, immediately overcome, fell first to his knees and then sprawled on the ground, sleeping soundly.

Taking a moment, Molly examined her new wings. They were beautiful and looked as if they had never been damaged. The crest had returned and was clearly visible amongst the rose colored feathery wings.

Returning to the circle, Molly saw that the purple flames had engulfed it and the pungent aroma of the potions was spreading its way through the air around her. Examining the pots with her wand, she saw the magic contents squirming and writhing, which meant they had indeed been activated.

Cooling the pots with her wand, Molly removed all from the fire. Chanting the magical Spungle lyrics learned from the cradle, she smeared the little yellow wand with each potion. Molly then dipped her hands into each pot, waiting for the familiar magical tingle which would tell her she was invincible and protected until the next full moon. When it came, it felt a little weaker than usual and she hoped it would last long enough to get her out of her present predicament.

Knowing that Jar-Ed would soon return to the cave, Molly knew she had to get back before he did. Making the fairy pots tiny with the trusty wand, Molly placed them all in the pockets of her green cloak for her friends, along with the wand.

Working quickly, the young fairy scooped up a few of the embers and hurriedly reburied them for the next fire. By the time she finished the night was fading fast and she knew she had to hurry.

Taking to the sky, Molly flew close to the hillside to remain undetected. The sun was beginning to rise in the sky when she reached the platform where the Mobi tree stood, tall and regal. Hiding behind it before she entered the cave again, Molly saw that the guard who was sleeping was no longer there. The fairy froze as she heard the voice she most dreaded.

“Now that little fairy will be really sorry!” yelled Jar-Ed, his voice icy and mean.

“Jar-Ed!” she whispered. “I did not make it back in time!” The evil man had already returned. Finding her gone, he was furious.
