Mommy for Billionaire's Baby -
Chapter 48 c
"To be honest, Tasya, I'm nervous. Marriage hasn't been on my list of life priorities for the past few months. I was just happy to meet women and, well... you know the rest. Busy with work and making sure Naina gets the best. Until the time came, I wouldn't let anything ruin Faldom. So, I worked even harder, right? Even though most of me didn't have any desire to be there anymore. But what can Faldom become while its owner is still in school?"
Tasya chooses to keep her mouth shut, listening to every word Nathan says.
"But because of you, I made this marriage a top priority. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Raising Naina the way her parents would have wanted. I've long considered Naina as my own, right? And the one who knows about this the most is you. As long as we've worked together, there's nothing about me that has escaped your notice. You're the one who can keep me on the right track, reaching for what's planned in the world of work. I believe that in our marriage, too, it can work, even though..." Nathan pauses for a moment. "Even though marriage is not the same as work. It's very different, right?"
"Yeah," Tasya responds softly.
"Marriage happens because both parties are attracted to each other. Anything can be the starting point for the foundation of a successful marriage. I believe that, Tasya. Even something as simple as me being attracted to a girl who had the courage to propose to me first. My nervousness and fear aren't because this love isn't reciprocated, you know. I know you love me. Right?"
Tasya doesn't say a word.
"Still not willing to admit it, Tasya?"
"You know who I love, Nathan."
"Who?" Nathan jokes with a hearty laugh.
"You." Tasya wanted to roll her eyes or sigh in exasperation, but she couldn't. Not when her face suddenly felt the rush of heat that would undoubtedly turn it bright red. Fortunately, this was a conversation over the airwaves. There was no need for Tasya to feel embarrassed or look down because her face had turned as red as a rotten tomato.
"The only person I love is you, Nathan."
If only Tasya could see Nathan's expression right now. His nose was twitching uncontrollably, and his heart was racing. When Tasya said something as sweet as this, Nathan's heart was flipping uncontrollably. He really wanted to be in front of Tasya, listening in person and staring into her eyes.
If only.
Or... should Nathan take his sedan out of the garage? Just to make a quick five-minute visit to Tasya's house?
"Aren't you going to continue, Nathan?"
"Oh!" Nathan seemed to snap out of something he found delightful to immerse himself in. He immediately refocused on what he had left momentarily. There were still many words he needed to say to Tasya, including his concerns. "What I'm afraid of is myself, Tasya."
"Why, though?"
"I'm afraid I won't meet your expectations as a husband and as someone responsible for your life, Tasya. Even though I'm financially stable and I guess I'm fairly good-looking, all of that isn't enough to be the person you need as your husband. I'm still selfish, I want to win everything on my own, I have too many ambitions that I worry whether I can share this time with you guys in the future. That's why I'm so nervous and can't sleep, Tasya."
"If that's what I'm afraid of too, Nathan." Tasya smiled faintly. "I'm afraid I won't be a good wife for you."
"But you're the one who can balance me out the most, Tasya. I'm sure, I'm lucky to have you as my wife, it's not just a passing thought."
"If you're afraid like that, do you want to back out?"
"Back out?" Nathan repeated with a furrowed brow. "Back out of marrying you? Wow... don't even dream of that, Tasya. That's terrifying. It's better if you dream of meeting ghosts or whatever, it's up to you. If possible, when you're scared like that, I'll be there by your side. So you can hug me."
"Nonsense!" Tasya said, accompanied by a laughter that sounded carefree.
"See, I'm good. I'll calm you down from your fear while hugging you. You don't mind if I hug you, right?"
"I do," Tasya replied, still laughing. "When did I ever reject you, Nathan?"
"Never, really," Nathan chuckled.
"Still nervous and worried?" Tasya asked softly. There was a momentary pause where they let time seep into their minds. Not because there was nothing to talk about at that moment, but because they intentionally chose not to say anything. "Still."
"I can only say that I'm not perfect either and have the same fears. How about two scaredy-cats like us hold each other's hands? So we don't feel alone in our fear?"
"That's actually what I asked God for, so you won't let go of my hand later."
"My fear is also huge, especially when I remember your track record as a man with many women. There's no impossibility that you might turn to someone else when I'm weak at that time. I'm powerless. I can't handle you like usual. I can't make you happy. Or, maybe, when I feel that you love me so much, I think your life revolves around me, that you don't look at anyone else except me, well... in reality, you might be turning away from me without realizing it."
"No, Tasya. I assure you that won't happen," Nathan interjected firmly. "I've said it, marriage wasn't my top priority. But because of you, everything has turned around. And I don't regret anything that's happening in my life right now." "Yeah, Nathan."
"Thank you for listening to my ramblings."
