“Do we have to go?” Sterling grumbles against my neck, his body pressed against my back as I dry my hands over the kitchen sink.

I shake my head as I examine the new sparkly band tucked against my other sparkly band, only that one has a large square-cut emerald in the middle. “Sterling, it’s our wedding reception.”

“Yeah, but we saw them all this afternoon.”

I twist in his hold until I’m facing him. “Mr. Black. Your employees are trying to do something nice.”

“Mrs. Black.” He smirks. “Our employees are trying to suck up to you.”

I roll my eyes even as I smile.

He’s been calling me that every chance he gets.

“They only do that because they know I’m the nice one.” I cup his face and pull him down for a kiss.

Sterling is great to his employees, but with the building of our new house over the past year, he’s been a little extra stressed. And maybe a little extra grumpy to anyone who isn’t me.

But our house is complete, furnished, bigger than we need, and absolutely perfect.

And we moved into it two weeks ago.

Really, our employees are probably just excited about their new lodgings and are hosting this little reception as a thank-you.

Because along with building this house, we did a little remodeling to the old house—converting the garage into three more bedrooms and adding a bathroom. So now Sterling’s old house is the new Bunk House and Black Mountain Lodge has an extra guest cabin.

A big one with a washer and dryer that we can charge more to use.

It’s not in use at the moment. Because at the moment, we’re closed for celebration.

But one of the guest cabins is occupied… by Marty.

We didn’t have a bridal party. We just got married at the courthouse. But we flew Marty out to be one of our witnesses, because if it wasn’t for him…

If it wasn’t for Marty’s lack of attention and that damn name cutoff on the application, none of this would have happened.

I smile against Sterling’s lips.

Some of the best things in life happen by accident.

Sterling’s mouth smiles against mine. “What is it, Wife?”

“Just thinking about you, Husband.”

He hums. “Good. Now let’s go, before I drag this dress off you.”

I pull away from him, my bright green sundress shifting around my legs.

Sterling whistles as we walk past our sunroom—filled to the brim with plants and cacti—to the front door.

Paws claw against the wood floor as our four dogs sprint through the house, then barrel through the door Sterling holds open.

It’s a crazy pack of misfit rescues. And I swear I’ve seen Ben, more than once, bouncing through the woods with a big furry beast much larger than any of our dogs.

I step outside, and Sterling follows, lacing his fingers through mine as he shuts the door behind us.

And I decide that tonight, when we get home, I’ll tell him about the human baby we’ll be adding to our herd.
