Mountain Boss: Mountain Men Series Book One -
Mountain Boss: Chapter 37
Turning off the main road and onto the Black Mountain Lodge driveway, I quiet my music.
My stomach is full.
I still have half a cookie in a paper sleeve on my passenger seat.
But the closer I get to my cabin, the duller my happiness becomes.
My Jeep bumps over a divot, and it’s enough to remind me that I need to pee, badly, after spending the drive home sucking down a frozen mocha.
I didn’t notice it the first night I arrived, but a part of the driveway cuts off to the left, leading to a clearing where all the guys park not far from the Bunkhouse.
But no one has told me if I should park somewhere special, so I continue on and don’t stop until I’m even with my Laundry Cabin. I put it in park with two wheels off the side of the driveway, leaving plenty of room for other vehicles to pass.
I’m not looking forward to lugging all these groceries over to the Food Hall, but at least I took long enough on my outing that lunch is long over. So there’s no need for anyone to see me struggle.
Turning off the engine, I shove open my door and slide out until my feet hit gravel.
My body aches in protest, and I press my palms against my lower back.
Today wasn’t as strenuous as the last couple of days, but the shitty sleep is catching up to me big time.
Leaning across the driver’s seat, I grab my cookie and the mostly empty to-go cup.
It was hard to walk past the home goods inside the store—the fluffy blankets and discounted pillows calling my name. But the splurge on lunch was all I could justify.
“Find everything?”
Sterling’s deep voice startles me so badly that I nearly pee myself.
