Mountain Boss: Chapter 50
“Sir?” Cook laughs after the door swings shut behind Sterling.
I bring my shoulders up to my ears. “I wouldn’t even know his first name if it weren’t for you guys,” I defend myself. “He never gave me permission to use it.”
Simpson shakes his head. “You don’t need permission, Court. We don’t stand on ceremony out here.”
“Yeah, yeah.” I sigh.
I think they can tell I’m still embarrassed, so Glen changes the topic. “What’s the delivery tomorrow?”
I look around, wanting to know too, but notice everyone is looking at me.
My eyebrows lift. “You’re asking me? How should I know? Sterling won’t even talk to me.”
“He has been in a bit of a mood.” Simpson pats me on the back. “But he’ll snap out of it.”
I make a sound that could possibly be taken as agreement, even though I’m not convinced.
When I finally step out of the Food Hall, I replace two things.
Next to my clipboard, which I left on the outdoor picnic table, is something that looks like a mix between an over-long broom and a toilet brush.
The handle has to be six feet long, and the large dome-shaped brush on top would be perfect for getting rid of hard-to-reach spiderwebs.
I bite my lip.
This will make cleaning those outdoor lights much easier.
The second thing I notice is the fresh paper attached to the clipboard.
I pick it up and read the list.
It’s the same as before, except…
I flip the page.
And bite my lip harder.
He rewrote the list.
All the tasks that require ladders have been removed.
