I hear the crunch of tires on the driveway, and my pulse skips a beat.

They’re back.

I want to turn around and watch the vehicles pull up, but I keep walking toward the Food Hall with my armful of clean hand towels.

The guys have been gone for three nights. Which was expected.

But for some reason, I wasn’t expecting Sterling to go with them.

So I haven’t seen him for three long days.

No glances.

No hearing his voice.

No getting too close.

But now he’s back.

I open the door and step into the scent of caramelizing onions.

“The guys are back,” I tell Cook as I set the folded towels on the counter.

“Good.” He nods as he stirs the onions. “Go tell Sterling that everything will be ready in thirty.”

I roll my lips together before turning back to the door.

If you say so.
