Mountain Boss: Chapter 62
I try my best to act unaffected as a long leg steps over the bench inches from my hip.
Act normal.
Sterling shifts, bringing his other leg over, then sits beside me.
He’s so big. His shoulders are so wide. I feel like I should scoot over to give him more room.
But he’s the one who sat so close. And I’m already on the edge of the bench.
Plus—I discreetly inhale through my nose—he smells too damn good to move away.
Like soap and sandalwood.
And he’s probably extra warm from his shower.
Does he take his time?
Does he rush through?
Naked… Slippery with suds.
I start to lean toward him before I catch myself.
What the fuck, Courtney? Get your shit together.
You cannot be sniffing your boss.
Pressing my lips together, I look up, hoping no one noticed my sway toward Sterling.
The table has filled up in the minute I’ve been daydreaming. And everyone seems to be in conversation.
But then my eyes lock with the guy sitting across from my boss, and he’s grinning at me.
Shit.
I pick up my sandwich and dunk it into the bowl of soup.
Eating quietly, I get through three bites before Sterling shifts. Adjusting himself on the bench. Widening his stance. Until his thigh is touching mine.
I chew slower.
It’s not just sort of touching me. Sterling’s large thigh is pressed against the length of mine.
I can feel the heat of it. Of him. Through our layers of clothes.
And it’s too much.
I swallow.
It should be innocent.
Just two people sitting a little too close on a crowded bench.
Except it wasn’t crowded when he sat down.
And him pressing his leg against mine has nothing to do with lack of space.
And I’m not moving away.
