Mr George, Don't Be So Arrogant -
Chapter 2 The Mistress Appeared
The security guards quickly cleared the scene and chased the reporters out, "Dr Watson, sorry for the inconvenience caused due to our negligence." Riley smiled coldly, "Don't worry about it. But we should be more careful not to disturb the VIP patient's rest."
From that, the security guards immediately knew that the patient in the room was a notable person. They thanked Riley for informing them on time.
The crowd dispersed and it was quiet again. Lydia sneered, "Riley, how capable of you. I see that you're the boss around here."
Riley scoffed, "This is the difference between being actually capable and someone who's sole merit is their face."
Lydia said proudly, "Are you jealous? Is it hurting your low self-esteem? No matter what, the person standing next to Euan is me right now. The one who's going to be with him and take care of his every need, including his sexual needs...will be ultimately me as well."
She dragged out her tone and said the word "sexual needs" sensually.
She wanted to rile Riley up!
Riley jeered, "Oh you sure did a great job taking care of him, he even got admitted to the hospital because his stomach was bleeding from excessive alcohol. Lydia, you're really capable!"
Lydia gritted her teeth, she didn't think that she would dig her own grave, "Riley! Don't be so full of yourself. One day, I'll make you regret everything, and you'll kneel before me, begging for my forgiveness!" She then stomped on the ground with her high heels.
"Well, I'll be waiting, Miss Big Wig," Riley scorned at her without mincing her words.
Riley took large strides and went into the VIP patient's room.
She moved quickly, efficiently and accurately.
Lydia clenched her teeth and fists. Riley, that bitch!
She stomped in her heels and leapt onto the bed ahead of Riley. She cried out achingly, "Euan, I came here directly from the set after I got the phone call. I was so worried, what happened? Why is your stomach bleeding?"
Riley was disgusted at Lydia's coquettish and flighty tone of voice.
It was aggravating!
Euan sat on the bed without any expression on his face, "Go back if you're busy."
Riley smiled, Lydia was possibly in the same boat with her, not being able to get on Euan's good side.
But Lydia was different, she wasn't going to back down just from that. She was persistent, or perhaps thick-skinned.
"Oh no, I'm just saying. And also you are more important than my work. Does your stomach still hurt? Let me rub the pain away..." Lydia reached out her hand and was about to touch his stomach. So shameless.
Riley didn't care how her man and his mistress went about behind her back, but she couldn't let them do lovey-dovey stuff right under her nose!
Riley stopped hesitating, she walked up and smiled disdainfully at Lydia in her white lab coat. She was being aggressive.
"Miss Saunders, please move your hand away."
Riley said extremely coldly.
Lydia felt uncomfortable and she stopped what she was doing. She crossed her arms and snickered, "I was wondering who it is, but it's just you, the great Dr Watson."
Riley looked at her scornfully, "There's more to that. I'm his wife, Miss Saunders."
She claimed sovereignty and Lydia had a horrid look on her face.
If it was only Euan in the room, Riley wouldn't ever say something like this.
Euan frowned, he didn't agree nor disagree.
His indifference riled Lydia up and she provoked Riley vehemently, "Wife? Dr Watson, I don't know any husbands and wives that live separately after getting married, nor that I know any wives who cannot bear her husband a single child even after 3 years."
She was lashing out at Riley, saying mean and disdainful words to Riley to make her look bad.
Riley subconsciously glanced at Euan. He was indifferent and didn't say any word.
She should've known better. Why did she think that he would help her by saying something?
It had been three years and she should be used to it by now.
She was used to it, and she shouldn't hope for anything anymore.
"Wow, I didn't know that you are so familiar with my life story, Miss Saunders. Though, I must kindly remind you that no matter what, I'm still his official wife on paper. And you, you are just a mistress who can never be presented in public."
What Riley said triggered Lydia and Lydia's rage and hatred towards Riley was about to overflow. Three years ago or today, she couldn't win against Riley.
This time, Riley managed to slightly provoke her, and Lydia was about to lose control.
Riley thought to herself, "Lydia never learned."
Lydia snickered, "So what? Euan doesn't love you anyway. As you said, you're just a wife on paper! What you are proud of?"
Riley clenched her fist in her pocket. What Lydia said was true and to Riley, the truth was an unspeakable pain. Her heart ached as if Lydia had ripped open her abdomen, and then grasped and squeezed her heart mercilessly!
For the past three years, she and Euan were husband and wife on paper. Other than him getting drunk and forcefully had sex with her during their first night together after the wedding, they never spent much time together in the same room. Even if they were to, it always ended with them arguing.
Technically she was Mrs George, but she was basically a widow for the last three years.
But Riley wasn't going to fall into Lydia's trap. She pondered briefly and smiled coolly, "True, it's just on paper. But in the end, you can only look at me from afar, and cast your greedy eyes on my man and my position as his wife. After all, I am Mrs George and not you."
Riley said it all out nonchalantly, not even putting on any airs. It was obvious that Lydia had lost this round.
But Lydia pulled out her ultimate weapon, she held Euan's arm and cried crocodile tears, "Euan, look at her, she is so shameless! She is still so obsessed with you even though she knows that you don't like her!"
Riley grimaced.
A crying face and some tears, a simple yet lethal weapon of a pretty woman. Unfortunately, it was something that Riley could never do. She wasn't bothered to pull such a stunt.
Even if her heart broke into million pieces, even if she was in utter despair, and even if she was so anguished that she was in agony, she would still never shed a tear in front of Euan.
Euan looked at Lydia and he gave Riley the side-eyes, "Leave."
His word slashed her heart like a sharp knife. He told her to leave?!
How dare he protect his mistress in this situation? Did he still remember that she was his wife?
Right, she was only a wife on paper. She was just an ornament. He would take her out during the festive seasons and put her on display, after that she would be forgotten and get tucked into a box.
Riley held her temper as she cringed. She smiled craftily, "Leave? Well, you are my patient, and I am the doctor who is in charge of you. I need to examine your wounds and the idlers are the ones who should leave the room right now."
Riley was obviously talking about Lydia.
They were best friends three years ago, Riley even almost died to save her. But the whole time Lydia was plotting to seduce her man and making her a common target for scorn.
Lydia acted as nothing had happened, but Riley couldn't.
Lydia was crying even harder, her tears fell like the rain during monsoon. She deserved her reputation as an actress, crying like that so effortlessly as if she was the victim of the story. But Riley didn't give a damn!
Euan hooted impatiently, "Get out, don't make me repeat myself."
Riley strengthened her grasp on the medical record file. It was as if Euan had slapped her on the face, slapping her right in front of his mistress until her cheek swelled in pain.
Riley couldn't smile anymore, she clenched her fist tightly and said, "I am your doctor and I need to examine you right now. Don't make me repeat myself."
After that Riley walked up to the bed and forcefully pushed Lydia who was acting meekly next to Euan away.
Lydia was stunned, her mouth was wide open. She didn't think that Riley would do that to her!
Euan glared coldly at Riley, his eyes were piercing.
Riley put on her stethoscope efficiently and pulled up his shirt. She placed the cold device on his skin and Euan quivered upon contact.
After examining his heartbeat, Riley hung her stethoscope around her neck and took out a small torchlight from her pocket, "Open your mouth." Euan was speechless.
Riley was getting impatient, "open your mouth."
Lydia was shocked!
"Riley, how could you talk to Euan like that?"
But Riley didn't give a shit about Lydia, she stared at Euan's lips as the torchlight shined on it. Riley gulped, these lips kissed hers ever so forcefully before. It once lingered on her collarbone and caressed her whole body...
"Either you shut your trap, or you get out of the room. Will you be able to bear the responsibility if something were to go wrong with the diagnosis?"
Lydia was fuming inside, but she didn't dare to say anything back.
Euan frowned and opened his mouth.
"Stick out your tongue."
Euan was speechless again, but he did as he was told.
"All done."
Riley switched off the torchlight and put it back into her pocket. She wrote something swiftly on the medical record file, her doctor's handwriting looked like nonsensical scribbles.
Lydia was curious and she peeked at it. Riley generously held it in front of her face and said, "Can you understand anything?"
Her tone was filled with contempt.
Lydia had no comeback.
Euan looked at Riley peculiarly. It was as if a switch in him was turned on and he had trains of weird thoughts in his head.
Riley's series of actions offended Euan. Annoyance brooded over his head. He didn't like being yelled at by females.
"Get out, now."
Riley put the cap back on the pen. Her heart ached, but it didn't show on her face, "I'm done. I'll leave even without you telling me."
She then proceeded to leave the room.
As she left the room, she heard an earsplitting sound of a glass being thrown onto the ground. She didn't stop walking, but she was flustered. She didn't think that he hated her to this point.
"Euan, don't get angry over her, it's not worth it. Calm down, Riley is just a bitch..."
Riley didn't want to listen to what was going to come next.
A breeze swept pass the corridor and Riley shivered. She looked indifferent, but her heart was filled with turmoil and chaos.
So what if she won against Lydia?
To him, she was still the loser. There was no way for her to overturn the situation.
She laughed at herself as raised her head. She then let out a sigh and walked to the duty room.
There were a few emergencies in the afternoon. It was already 5 pm when she was finally done.
Riley wasn't on the night shift today, but the head of the hospital told her to look after Euan all the day and hence she had to work overtime today. She had her dinner in the hospital restlessly and as she entered the duty room, she overheard the conversation of a few gossipy and bored nurses.
"Lydia Saunders was at the hospital today and personally cared for Euan George. The reporters filled the corridors! It was a scene to behold!"
"So, Lydia Saunders and Euan George are a couple? That must be it, the rich men only love sexy celebrities and young beautiful models."
"But Euan George is so handsome! He can have any woman he wants! Millions of women are waiting for him to set his eyes on them! I would die to spend a night with Euan George."
"Silly girl, there's more than that to life!"
"Yes, but it's Euan George! He's larger than life."
The nurses stopped talking when they heard Riley's footsteps.
"Dr Watson... You are on night shift today?" asked one of the nurses cautiously.
Riley flipped open a medical book and proceeded to read it. She answered in a low voice, "Yeah."
The nurses exchanged glanced with each other, they then asked after mustering their courage, "Dr Watson, we heard that the head of the hospital made you in charge of Euan George... Whom you will bring on your patrol later in the night?"
Normally, the doctor would bring one or two nurses on their patrol. Riley was the internist responsible for the VIP patients, and she had the authority to order any of the nurses here to come with her. Riley flipped a page and peered unemotionally at the lines in the book, "What?"
The expression on the nurses changed as if they saw rays of hope. They courteously requested, "Could you bring me with you, Dr Watson?"
"Could you take me..."
"Bring me as well..."
Riley glanced at the nurses on duty. The night shifts were usually boring and that was why they were looking for something fun to do. But they couldn't just meet Euan just because they wanted to.
Such a joke.
Not to mention that he was her husband. She couldn't have him, but she wasn't so generous to share him with everyone else.
"I'm going alone."
The nurses were disappointed.
Suddenly, a rapid alarm rang across the duty room.
"Riley, what's wrong with you? I thought that you are mature and steady and hence I made you in charge of Euan. But you didn't even know that your patient had a fever! You are an experienced doctor, I didn't
need to remind you about how severe it could be when a patient with GI bleeding develops a fever!?"
Riley was taken aback from being reprimanded and berated. She had no clue that Euan had a fever!
