Mr George, Don't Be So Arrogant -
Chapter 9 She Had Lost Her Temper After A Night’s Sleep
Riley was awakened from her deep sleep by a suddenly ringing cellphone.
She stretched out her arm in a daze to pick up the phone and suddenly she was wide awake.
She suddenly sat up on the bed, making the wound on her knee throbbed painfully. Her delicate face wrinkled in pain.
Riley's drowsiness disappeared as she felt a stab of pain. She turned her head to replace the space on the bed besides her empty. Euan was not besides her.
But then, he hated her so much, why would he sleep with her?
The panic that had just risen in her turned into a chilling disappointment.
Scratching her hair hard, Riley picked up the phone. The call was from the on-duty doctor in the department.
"Dr Watson, are you awake? The patient in bed no. 22 has arrhythmia. Come quickly."
Bed no. 22's patient had been in the hospital for more than two months. The patient suffered from severe coronary heart disease. Once combined with arrhythmia, there was a high chance of myocardial infarction. The patient's condition was very dangerous!
"Give 5 ml lidocaine intravenously to calm the patient's mood. After ten minutes if the situation doesn't get better then give 5 ml lidocaine again. Remember, stabilize the patient's mood and don't let them feel nervous. I am coming over immediately."
"Okay, I'll prepare for it!"
Hanging up the phone, Riley wore her slippers ignoring the throbbing pain in her knee. She had just opened the bedroom door when her eyes fell down on Euan sleeping on the couch in the living room. She felt a stab of pain somewhere in her chest.
She hopped down the stairs step by step, and quietly looked at Euan who was sleeping soundly. The sleeping Euan had lost all of his usual cold harshness. His eyebrows were spread smoothly, and his facial features all became soft. He looked extremely handsome.
"So handsome, but you just likes to keep his face looking like an iceberg." Riley muttered, preparing to take her bag and leave. However, her eyes fell on her dress and she became silent.
It was really inappropriate to dress like this to go to the hospital.
She really had low IQ. If she had seen it early, then she'd have found different clothes upstairs and changed into them. Now, she had to climb up the stairs again.
She hopelessly jumped up the stairs again. Although she tried to control it, the banging sound woke up Euan. He frowned, looking at the figure of Riley hopping up the stairs like a rabbit. The warm light coming in through the French window illuminated her side and cast a shadow on the white wall on the other side.
Euan raised the corner of his mouth in a lazy smile.
With lightning speed, Riley randomly picked some clothes that had been put there three years ago. Unexpectedly, they still fit her well. She washed her face and brushed her teeth. Then she prepared to hop down the stairs again.
Just as she was about to take the first step down the stairs, she noticed Euan standing silently in the living room. Looking at her calmly as if he was enjoying an interesting drama.
Riley bit her lip, cursing at him in her heart.
Euan ignored her bouncing movements, instead he focused on her clothes. She was wearing a beige dress, which just covered her knees. It changed her look from the melancholy and calmness of the black clothes to bright and beautiful.
Moreover, he remembered that this was the dress that he bought for her back then.
Riley hopped down the stairs laboriously and landed on the ground. Euan stared at her with one hand in his pocket, examining her appearance slowly.
"Mr. George, please move aside."
She had really lost her temper after a night's sleep.
"Where to?"
"Hospital."
Euan looked at her knees subconsciously.
"I am a doctor and I have patients to look after, so I need to go to work now." She didn't wait for his response and staggered his shoulder as she limped past him towards the main door.
Euan carefully pondered on her words about going to work, then he raised his eyebrows into two arcs and said, "You can't get a taxi here."
Riley stopped in the middle of putting on her shoes. Damn! Why did she forget this? If she wanted to take a taxi then she was going to have to walk a kilometer from here. Not to mention, people who lived here didn't need to take taxis.
But how was she going to walk for a kilometer with her condition.
"Thank you for reminding me." Riley put on a pair of flat shoes that had been idle for three years in the shoe cabinet, which was also the only pair of shoes. Then she got up and opened the door.
Euan's fierce eyes were shooting flames, "Do you want to be crippled for life?"
The answer to his words was Riley's back descending the steps.
This stupid woman! He thought.
Euan hurriedly chased her as she struggled to support the weight of her whole body on one leg and walked towards outside. Riley's stubbornness was annoying!
"Riley! What the hell are you doing?"
Euan grabbed her by the arm. She looked back at him coldly and smiled particularly politely, "Euan, this is what I want to ask you. What the hell are you doing? My patient is waiting for me at the hospital, I mus
go!"
Riley had never been careless towards her patients.
Euan's handsome face turned dark, "Get in the car! I'll take you."
What?!
Take her?
"Why are you in a daze? Just get in the car if you don't want to have a medical accident. And don't look at me with that expression." Euan walked back to get the car keys and started the car.
Riley muttered broodily in her heart. That expression? Which expression?
Euan's car stopped besides her, and he ordered her without giving her any option, "Get in!"
Okay, if he said get in then there was no need to waste a free driver. She thought.
When the car moved suddenly, Riley's upper body almost crashed into the windshield.
"Euan!"
This was the last straw. She had already injured her knee; must she injure her forehead too?
Her anger was greeted with a touch of mockery from Euan whose eyes fell in front of her. She hadn't fastened her seat belt.
"If you want to die, I can make that happen."
Riley knew that she was too impatient this time. She clenched her teeth and fastened her seat belt, vowing that she was not going to talk to Euan for the rest of the ride.
The car drove along the road and half way through Riley's phone rang again.
"How's the patient?"
"Dr Watson, the patient's condition has already improved. You don't need to worry about coming over."
"I'm glad it's fine. Thank you for your hard work."
Riley exhaled a sigh of relief. It was fortunate.
Hearing that the patient was okay, Euan slowed the car speed by one third and glanced sideways to see Riley's reaction, "Still going to the hospital?"
"One patient is okay, but there are many others waiting for me. Of course, I am going."
Riley spat out a couple sentences, her tone unpleasant and a bit angry.
She felt angry and temperamental, which was the proof that her mood had no problem fluctuating.
Euan lazily held the steering wheel with one hand and placed his idle hand on his right knee, only a few centimeters away from Riley's leg.
If the car hit any bumps in the road again, his hand was bound to slip from his leg and "accidentally" touch Riley's skin.
It was a pity that the stability of the car was too good and the road too smooth. There was no chance.
Damn, what the hell was that thought!
"Since it's just for work, then go after eating."
Before Riley could respond, Euan drove the car to a fork in the road and took a U-turn. Two minutes later, he stopped in front of a restaurant.
"I am not hungry. I don't want to eat." Riley bit her lip angrily. Euan was too bossy. He never gave anyone a chance to talk before making any decision; he never discussed with anyone.
"Not hungry? Did I tell you to eat? Since you are not hungry then just watch me eat."
Riley was stumped for words.
Euan got out of the car and left her alone to open the car door and get out. Every time her knee moved, she felt extreme pain.
'Euan, was this your way of making my life living hell?' She thought.
'In my opinion, it was not that good!'
The meal in front of Euan was too sumptuous for just breakfast. Meat and vegetable were paired up beautifully in light and healthy Chinese dishes. The two faced each other. Euan picked up his chopsticks and began to eat slowly as if no one else was there.
The way Euan ate was too beautiful. He ate each dish as if it was food from heaven itself, making her mouth water. Riley couldn't bear it anymore.
Last night she barely ate at Euan's home and she had been already hungry.
Euan didn't even look at her. After eating some of the dishes, he picked up the spoon and tasted the sea food soup sip by sip. With the fragrance of the food and Euan's appealing way of eating, Riley's heart weakened.
She picked up chopsticks and paused deliberately on the table. She automatically ignored the words she said herself a while ago and ate a mouthful. It tasted really good!
While eating, she didn't forget to observe Euan's reaction out of the corner of her eye. At the same time, she was preparing how to respond if he sneered at her. However, Euan ate seriously throughout the whole process and ignored her completely.
Riley only noticed while eating, that most of the dishes on the table were what she liked to eat. Moreover, all her favorite dishes happened to be placed in front of her and she could easily pick from them with her chopsticks.
It seemed that this restaurant's food suited her taste very much. She could come here again in the future.
Presuming that she had almost finished eating, Euan wiped the corners of his mouth, got up and left without a word.
Riley put down her chopsticks, wiped the corners of her mouth contentedly and stood up to leave after him. When Euan reached out of Riley's line of sight, a smile appeared again on his face.
JD Central Hospital.
As his car stopped, Euan said coldly, "Get out."
Riley picked up her purse and opened the car door. Before she got out, she said in a low voice, "Thank you for driving me to work."
This was the first time in the three years of marriage, and even that under the current circumstances.
Euan didn't respond because his phone rang.
In the fleeting moment, Riley's eyes fell on the name shining on the screen - Lydia.
The eye-catching name felt like an invisible weapon, shooting bullets into her heart. If she said she didn't care it would have been a lie.
"Yeah."
"Okay."
"I'm on my way."
In just three simple sentences, Riley could already see what the Lydia's side of the call was like.
"Euan, are you up?"
"Can you come and pick me up?"
"When will you come?"
Riley could even imagine Lydia pretending to be very sweet and gentle while speaking. Thinking that almost made her throw up her breakfast in disgust.
While getting out and closing the door, Riley's movements were chic and neat.
Euan played with his phone and watched her with a slight smile as she walked away with difficulty. Riley, I dare you to say that there was no reaction in your heart. He thought.
"Dr Watson, you are finally here. There is a handsome guy in the office waiting for you. He asked for you by name to see him."
Serena, a doctor in the same office, stopped Riley and told her with a smitten look on her face.
"What is the issue? Is it serious?" Riley had no choice but to stand still. She kept her weight off her leg, not daring to exert herself physically nor wanting it to be seen by her colleague. Serena was a well-known nymphomaniac. Whenever she saw a handsome guy, she completely lost her mind and praised him up to the sky, exaggerating too much. Her words were not very reliable. "Um... he doesn't look like there is anything wrong with him. However, he said he is very ill and must be diagnosed by you personally. He is really handsome! And really young! Go and see, go!" "Dr Watson, even if the handsome guy is not sick, you have to diagnose him and make him stay in the hospital for ten fifteen days at least! Haha!"0000
