Chapter 137

Chapter 137 Obtaining The Documents

When Nicholas returned to the room, it was already late at night, and Nancy had already fallen asleep.

He moved quietly and lay down on the makeshift bed on the floor, but it was more like lying down thansleeping.

That night, he couldn’t sleep and didn’t get any rest at all.

Early the next morning, they packed up their things and prepared to head back.

As they were leaving, Nancy took one last look at the place, a sense of nostalgia in her eyes.

Although the place was quite simple, the stories of Nicholas’ grandparents made this modest cottageparticularly endearing.

This was his grandparents’ former residence, and after the divorce, she probably wouldn’t have theopportunity to come here again. In the future, he might bring someone else, his beloved girl, his nextwife, his children….

As the idea formed in her mind, Nancy suddenly felt a sharp pain in her heart. It was a piercingdiscomfort.

Yes, everything will soon become a distant memory, so why dwell on it? What isn’t mine will never bemine.

“Let’s go,” Nancy turned around to leave.

They departed quite early, and it was around 10.00AM when they arrived at the airport.

After getting off the plane, Nancy looked at Nicholas and asked, “Do you have time today?”

“I have some time.”

“In that case, let’s head to your parents’ place, pick up the documents, and complete the formalities

now.”

The news struck Nicholas like a bolt from the blue, leaving him stunned.

Despite knowing that Nancy had made up her mind and was determined to get a divorce, he had neverexpected it to happen so soon, immediately after getting off the plane.

Is she so eager?

His heart felt overwhelmed by a surging tide. He was bitter inside, and it felt incredibly uncomfortable.

Nicholas’ slender fingers turned white from gripping the suitcase tightly. After a long while, he managedto squeeze out a single word from his throat. “Alright.”

The two of them got into a car and headed to the family home.

When they arrived, Sarah and Albert weren’t at home, which made it convenient for them to collect thedocuments.

Nancy breathed a sigh of relief, and Nicholas did the same. He mentioned, “Since Mom and Dad aren’there, we can come back another day.”

However, Nancy thought otherwise. “It’s perfect that they’re not here. We can grab the documents andavoid any potential disagreements with them.”

Nicholas was puzzled for a moment and asked, “Aren’t the documents with them? If they’re not here,we won’t be able to get the documents, and we won’t be able to proceed with the formalities.”

“The documents are all in Grandpa’s room. He gave the key to Mom before he left, Nancy explained asshe took out the key. “Mom gave me the key a long time ago.”

Nicholas was stunned, and it took him a while to come around. He looked at her bag and said, “So, youbrought the key with you before we even went to Grandpa’s former residence?”

“Yes, to save us from going back and forth,” Nancy replied plainly.

Her casual statement, however, caused extreme heartache for Nicholas. She had brought the key withher long before, indicating that she had everything planned out. That was why she was so eager andunwilling to wait even a moment after getting off the plane.

Is she in such agony and discomfort being with me now?

Nicholas looked up, his heart filled with a bitter feeling. “Nancy, you’ve thought about everything earlyon, haven’t you?”

Nancy looked at him calmly and replied, “Since I’ve already made up my mind, I should cut to thechase, shouldn’t I?”

Only the heavens knew how much courage it took for her to bring up the divorce and how much it hurther. She was afraid that if she waited any longer or hesitated, she wouldn’t be able to go through

with it.

In recent days, they had been getting along harmoniously, and at one point, she thought they were inlove and happy. But as soon as she saw the reality, she reverted back to her original self.

In love with each other? As if! Between them, it had always been a one-person show.

It had been a decade, and Nancy was beginning to wear out. She didn’t want to chase after Nicholasanymore. She needed a break.

In Jacob’s room, Nancy quickly used the key to open the second drawer. Inside, she found thedocuments Jacob had left for her, along with a letter.

‘Dear Nancy.

You’re the one I can’t bear to part with the most. With your mother gone, your father being who he is,and Nicholas, I know he has another love in his heart. He has never forgotten about Madelline andwants to divorce you.

Silly girl, I know everything. I’ve been in the business world for many years, and nothing can escape mydiscerning eyes. I just didn’t want to expose it.

People always say that it’s essential for women to marry the right man. But in my opinion, it’s equallyimportant for a man to marry the right woman. Whether it’s your grandmother-in-law, Sarah, or you, youare all the best daughters-in-law and prospective granddaughters-in-law in my eyes.

When you two grow old, have children, and take charge of the family, always remember this-the SallowFamily is already wealthy and influential enough and is a prestigious family in itself. We don’t need toenhance our status through marriage. The person your child marries doesn’t have to be from a noblefamily. A good character and a kind heart are all that matters.

Those who are not frugal, love extravagance, and don’t work hard will squander their wealth, even ifthey are rich. But diligent and hardworking individuals will rise again, even if they face adversity

someday.

The Sallow Family has been wealthy for three generations, and it will continue for a long time. Therewill undoubtedly be challenges along the way, and only with the unity and cooperation of husband andwife can we overcome them. This is the important task I entrust to you-you must carry on thisphilosophy in place of your grandmother-in-law. It is only then that the Sallow Family will remain. strongand continue to prosper!

Here is a pair of earrings. Sarah received one set when your grandmother-in-law left us. This set is forthe granddaughter-in-law. I’ve already given you the bracelet, and as for these earrings, I kept them.with me as a keepsake, always thinking of your grandmother-in-law. Now that I’m about to leave thisworld, I want to pass them on to you.

Nancy, I know you’ve felt wronged. By the time you read this letter, I will already be gone. If you don’twant to get a divorce, just let Albert and Sarah know. They will surely help you and won’t let yourdivorce Nicholas.

But if one day you truly feel wronged, too exhausted, and unable to continue, I won’t force you.Although I don’t want you to leave the Sallow Family, my greatest desire is for you to live a fulfilling life, replace happiness, and enjoy every moment. Therefore, if that day comes and you decide to separate fromNicholas, I won’t hold it against you. I will still offer my blessings.

Nancy, your happiness is of utmost importance to me. That is my sincerest wish!”

As Nancy finished reading the letter, tears streamed down her face.

Jacob had meticulously considered everything. He had taken into account all the circumstances, providing her with warmth and care without imposing any psychological pressure.

“Thank you, Grandpa. I apologize for not being able to walk hand in hand with him, but please restassured that I will live well and not disappoint you.”

When Nancy went downstairs with the documents, she coincidentally encountered Albert and Sarahreturning.
