Chapter 3 Sleep with Her in My Arms

“Take care of yourself.” After Nicholas finished speaking, he hung up the phone in a hurry. “Okay, I will.”Although he hung up very quickly, Nancy still heard Madelline’s voice. She heard the words “dinner”clearly. On their second wedding anniversary, her husband had a dinner with another woman. It wasironic. Madelline was back! Although Nancy didn’t want to believe it, this was the fact. This fact alsomade her instantly feel defeated. Nancy was never a match for Madelline, even from two years ago.How could she expect that Nicholas would choose her? Just because she’s pregnant? Just when she was about to fall asleep, she suddenly received acall from Luke, “Nicholas is drunk and rowdy. Come and take him home.” Nancy wonders, ‘Didn’t hespend a good night with Madelline? Why did he go to drink with Luke again?’ Nancy was about to say,“I’m a bit inconvenient. You can replace someone to take him home!” But Luke has already hung up thephone. When she called again, Luke already turned off his phone. Enduring the pain, Nancy got upfrom the bed and changed her clothes. Then she asked the driver to take her to the clubhouse Nicholasoften visited. When she arrived, the bar was hushed. Nicholas was very drunk. He was sleeping on thesofa and crossed his legs. His tie was neat, and his appearance was as handsome as ever. There is asaying that some people in this world are perfect. Even when they are drunk, they can maintain a goodposture, just like Nicholas. Nancy felt nauseated and vomited when she got closer. She guessed that itmight be because of her pregnancy. After finally restraining herself, she looked at Luke and asked,“Why is he so drunk? She replied, “We havealready agreed to get a divorce. We might not get it officially ended yet, but he’s basically a free man. Ihave no right to say no.” “Huh!” Luke looked at her coldly, “You are so generous.” “Nancy, do you have

a conscience? How did Nicholas treat you all these years? He always took care of you and cherishedyou. And you just agreed to divorce him? Didn’t you at least try to keep him?” Luke was outraged.Nancy looked at him in astonishment, “I remember that when I married him, you were very opposed toit. Now that I am divorcing him, shouldn’t you be happy about it? Why are you even angrier than me?”“I didn’t like you then. But now that you are married, both of you should cherish it and not treat marriageas a joke. Then hehanded the gift to Nancy and said, “This is a gift from Grandpa and me for your wedding anniversary.There were some last-minute matters to attend to, so I came late. I hope you like it. Hopefully, you bothcan live loving and helping each other in the future.” “Thank you, Dad. Please convey my thanks toGrandpa. I like it very much. Thank you for remembering our wedding anniversary.” Nancy thankedAlbert sincerely and was also deeply moved. “Aren’t you going to open it?” Albert asked. “As long asit’s a gift from both of you, I’ll love it no matter what.” “You’re such a kind girl.” His gaze landed onNicholas. “If he ever mistreats you, don’t hesitate to let me and Grandpa know. So, rest when you’re done.” “Okay, Dad, take care.” Nancy finally gotNicholas upstairs and put the hot bath water in. When she left the bathroom, she found that Nicholashad fallen asleep on the floor. She squatted down and poked his hand, “Nicholas, get up and shower.”“Get up!” No response. Nancy sighed and helped Nicholas to take off his clothes. Then, she helped himto the bathroom to bathe him. The body wash has a robust milky smell. It’s Nancy’s favorite. But today,

while bathing Nicholas, she choked so much that she vomited several times. After she bathed Nicholasand put him on the bed, Nancy thought she could rest now. But Nicholas turned around suddenly,hugged her waist with both hands and whispered, “Don’t go. Stay here!” Nancy felt warm for a while.That feeling was very similar to the first time she saw him. Her heart was beating fast and filled withsweetness. Nicholas usually looks elegant and calm, but he has never acted so affectionate. Nancy’sheart softened, and she couldn’t bear to push him away. Well, it’s the last night. They would getdivorced tomorrow and wouldn’t have a chance to share a bed anymore. Then, her fingers fell on his hand, intertwined with his fingers, and heldtightly. She only dared to do these things when Nicholas was asleep. In the morning, Nancy wakes upby the vibration of her phone. She was still drowsy, feeling like she hadn’t slept well. She picked up herphone and placed it next to her ear. “Hello?” “You are Nancy?” A woman’s stunned voice came fromthe other side of the phone. That was Madelline’s voice. Nancy took it by mistake. This is Nicholas’phone. Nancy immediately sat up from the bed. She opened her eyes and glanced at her phonequickly. Then, she handed the phone to Nicholas and said, “Ms. Madelline is looking for you.”
