My Brother’s Mate
Chapter 75

Luther's POV

"Luther. We found out where the Tribrid is hiding." Aowa says.

My heart skips a beat. Don't get too excited yet..

"From who!? Is it a reliable source?" I ask quickly.

"It's from Fredrick." Aowa says.

Ahhh. At last. We must play this right. I'm not going to let her slip through my fingers again.

"So she's gone to Graybrook.. We should've known. How long will she be there? Are they living there or did they just stop to resupply?" I ask.

"Frederick said she was leaving for a few days on a trip of some sort, but her mother stayed behind. So we have reasonably assumed she'll return to Graybrook after her trip." "Trip? What trip? What is she taking a vacation?!"

"She is going north to the fog lands. I don't think it wise to go after her there. But we could get her once they return. They will be tired and more susceptible to magic." Aowa says. "No! She could be escaping to the fog lands! We must pursue her there. We can't lose her again!" Bethany chimes in.

"Frederick said they only packed enough for a 3 day trip." Aowa tells me.

"We can still ambush her there, she won't see it coming." Bethany replies.

"Do you know what lies in the fog lands?!" I ask Bethany. She just looks at me. "Thousands of vicious deformed beasts." I say sharply.

"We can take them!" Bethany says.

"No!" I cut her off.. "We will go to Graybrook and will wait for her to return." I say.

"Why do you think she is going up there?" Aowa asks.

"Frederick didn't say?" I ask her. She shakes her head no.

"There are many mysteries in the fog lands. The tribrid won't be venturing too deeply if she's only going for 3 days. If we're lucky the beasts will do the hard work for us.." "Then we need to head out soon." Aowa says.

"Yes, I agree. We will camp near by and wait for their return." I say.

Bethany and Aowa get to work on packing up for our trip. We are currently in my hide out. If we move quickly it should take us about a day and a half to get there. I get to work drawing up a plan to capture her. We can't let this opportunity pass us by.

We swiftly arrive to the Graybrook lands about a day later. We camp out in the woods surrounding the manor. I cast a spell of cloaking around us. We will be completely undetected. Now we wait for the tribrid to return.

"You need to make contact with Fredrick. Tell him we are here, give him this." I hand Aowa a bag of precious gems. I know what Fredrick truly wants is to taste the blood of the Tribrid. Which he has earned, of course, if everything goes to plan. But the gems should pacify him for now. I will invite him to feast with us when we have harvested a sufficient supply. My mouth is watering thinking of the power that lies in her blood.

"There is a tunnel entrance not far from here. I will go in and make the connection." Aowa turns and leaves.

"So what is our plan?" Bethany asks.

"For right now? Set up camp, and be patient. I'm going to search for the tribrid. When Aowa returns tell him to help you. I don't want to be bothered for the rest of the night." Bethany turns and leaves.

I set up my circle and light my candles. I close my eyes and my spirit flies off. I venture north towards the fog lands. I'm listening and peering through the foggy woods. I hear something.. I fly downward towards the sound. YES! It's the Tribrid. She's with Liam and another man I don't recognize. They're walking away from the last member of their group. He's sitting on a rock chanting a spell of repelling. Hmm, pretty smart. I leave him behind and follow the Tribrid. They're walking very cautiously through the fog. The tribrid points to a crater. Liam and the other man jump down and start digging. What are they searching for? Suddenly some grulers show up, they're on the other side of the crater but they're not attacking them, they must see the repelling spell. Liam hands Emily a crystal of some sort. I fly over behind the Tribrid and peek over her shoulder. It's no crystal I've seen before, I wonder what they're planning to do with them.

The grulers are growing in numbers, finally they begin their attack. They swarm Liam and his companion in the crater. Emily blasts some of them away. The grulers turn toward her. The tribrid runs off using her self as bait. The grulers follow her at first, then they split up. Half of them run back for the boys. The grulers are completely swarming them. Liam's friend helps him climb out of the crater. Then suddenly they're gone. Where did they go? I see them reappear next to the tribrid. So the mystery man is a vampire. The grulers keep up their attack, but that witch's repelling spell is strong. I think I can c***k his spell, but that will surely break my projection. Is it worth it? Yes. I close my eyes and say the words. His spell is strong. I hold my stance, I can sense the cracks forming. Then it shatters. The blast throws me back to my body, I gasp in a deep breath. That wiped me out. I crawl into my bed before giving into my exhaustion.

I wake up at first light. I walk out of my tent and replace Aowa.

"Aowa. How did it go last night?"

"Frederick thanks you for your generous gift, and says he can't wait to share a warm glass of the triblood with you." Aowa tells me.

"Excellent, the tribrid and her companions should be on their way back now, they must've sustained incredible injuries. It wouldn't surprise me if she's already in transition by the time she gets here."

Aowa looks excited. "Tell Bethany to meet me in my tent after breakfast. I want to go over our plan." I say.

"Yes Luther." He replies. I make my way over to my tent to start the concoction of my spell. After about an hour Bethany and Aowa walk in.

"I've gathered you here to go over our plan. I've already begun making a powerful sleeping spell."

Bethany and Aowa look excited.

"Oooh what's the plan father?!" Bethany asks excitedly.

"We have a few options but I think our best bet is to wait until we see the tribrid go inside the house. Then we'll sneak in through the tunnel, I will release the sleeping spell, and we'll steal the tribrid from right under their noses. We escape through the tunnels and back to the hideout."

"Brilliant." Aowa says.

"Thank you there are a few matters that aren't 100% solid yet. It is in those matters that I seek your input." I say.

"First of all. The sleeping spell is very powerful, but some of the vampires may be resistant to the magic. I will need some warriors to fight them if necessary."

"I've got that covered." Bethany says with a smile.

"How many vampires are we talking here?" Aowa asks.

"Can't we just get intel from Fredrick?" Bethany says.

"He left last night after I gave him the gems." Aowa says.

Typical vampire. Running from the action but reaping all the benefits.

"Bethany you will take Aowa with you, the sleeping spell will weaken them greatly, but vampires are hard to kill."

"I can do this on my own." Bethany snarls through closed teeth.

"That wasn't a request. I want to avoid as many casualties from our men as possible. Our numbers are dwindling if you haven't noticed! This isn't a time for pride. We can save that for when we have the tribrid in our hands. Then everyone will come crawling to us for a taste." I get lost in my thoughts for a moment, then I remember Aowa and Bethany are still in here.

"You're dismissed. Tell everyone. The tribrid should be back by tonight." I say. Aowa and Bethany leave the tent. I finish preparing the sleeping spell.

When I step out of my tent it's dusk. I stand there and watch the house. It seems so quiet from the outside. I'm so close to success and yet so far away. Everything needs to go exactly right tonight. The camp eats an early dinner. Then we prepare for the tribrid's return. I've been peering deep into the woods. She's being carried by Liam, she's close to death. The grulers killed the vampire that was with them. They should be here in about 5 minutes.

My small army waits silently at the edge of the tunnel. I'm watching as Liam and the witch carry the tribrid to the east clinic.

"This is our time. We need to stay silent. Everyone cover your nose and mouth, and don't breathe." I say. I cast the sleeping spell and a white mist fills the air and then it quickly dissipates.

"Let's go." I say. We make our way through the tunnel and into the basement. We rush up the stairs and quietly enter the house. I instruct Bethany and Aowa to clear the western side. While I go after the tribrid. I make it to the east wing without running into anyone. I walk through the door and see the girl's mother asleep on a chair. Then I spot the tribrid. I gaze in awe at her. She looks pale. Has she transitioned yet? I wave my hands over her to try and detect her condition. She's still alive! She's just lost a lot of blood. This will set my plans back a few days. She'll need time to replenish her blood supply before she transitions fully.

"Hey. Who are you?" I hear and male voice call out from somewhere in the house.

"GRAB HER!" I instruct one of my men. "We need to get out of here." I say.

I rush towards the commotion. Aowa and Bethany are fighting a male vampire. He's on the ground. They're about to win. I pick up Bethany's sword and hand it to her.

"Aowa, follow them." I point to the men carrying the tribrid. "Go, get her out of here." I say. Aowa and a few other soldiers take off for the basement with the tribrid. "Stay where you are and you won't be hurt." Bethany says to the vampire. Did she just offer to spare him?

"Careful they're fast." I tell Bethany. The male vampire rushes towards her and with one clean swing of her sword, Bethany removes his head from his body. We wait a moment and listen for others. When we didn't hear anything we make our way towards the basement. There was a fight going on between another old vampire and one of my soldiers. The old vampire took a bite out of the soldiers neck and began draining his blood.

Bethany went over and while the vampire was distracted, and relieved him of his head. We run into the tunnel and away from Graybrook Manor. I catch up to the soldiers holding the tribrid.

"GIVE HER TO ME!" I command. The soldier hands me her limp body and I blast ahead with the tribrid in hand. I did it! I have have the tribrid! "Don't celebrate too early Luther." I say to myself. We need to get back as soon as possible. Me and my army head back to the hideout as quickly as we can.

I kept a few scouts back to make sure we weren't being followed. It will be daylight soon and that will protect us.

We make it back to the hideout in a little less than 24 hours. We put the tribrid in a cell, she has been unconscious the whole way here.

"So what now? You have her. What are you going to do with her?" Bethany asks.

"The first thing we need to do is kill her." I say. The time has come for her to fulfill the prophecy and become the Tribrid. Then I can fulfill my destiny and release the power within her blood.
